Panerai Luminor vs Omega Speedmaster and Rolex vs Omega... 

I've got the speedy so you can guess my answer! Subs are to expensive for what they are, BUT as you say the market dictates the price.

I have a Speedy and would also like the PAM. I struggle to compare to two given they are so different. Thanks again for your consistency excellent content. Always cool when a new Fed Vid pops up on my feed!

My Sinn 356 Flieger is hand wind, has a chronograph function, a 38.5mm dial and I just love it!

Exactly correct. The market dictates what a watch is worth. Logic has nothing to do with it. This applies to all products. Not just watches.

Agree on all counts Federico. Omega 300 diver is a better watch than the sub, available, and much cheaper. But if it's the Rolex you want then nothing else will do. Most (though not me) would agree with you and that's what drives the price. Loving that Moser BTW.

I love the Zenith Prime. Not a lot of sub 40mm chronographs, beautiful display caseback and a bit of pilot aesthetic. Can be picked up for around 2.5k USD.

I prefer the Seamaster over the Sub because it looks aesthetically more stylish in my opinion, subs are pretty good but I dont agree with the pricing. I remember 4 years ago I walked into a random AD and they had the black sub without date for 8800$ and it was available to buy without a waiting list...lol how times have changed....cant get that price on the grey market even...

So I have a question. There is an ad where I live (Portugal) that has a Breitling Superocean abyss (old stock) that is stocking off. It costs 2690€, what would be the fair price with a discount considering that it is a discontinued watch? And congratulations on your work! Thank you!

I have a speedmaster. Terrific watch. Cannot compare to regular watches because the speedmaster has the tachometer/timer in addition to displaying the time. I have spent for a number of expensive mechanical watches some automatic and some manual windup. The drawback is I found all mechanical watches to be more fragile in case of rough treatment, and also require some maintenance every 4 to 5 years. I have a number of Omega, Eterna, and Raymond Well mechanical watches. They are accurate to about 2 to 5 seconds per day depending on my activity. When I wear these watches I am always afraid of smashing it against something. I have damaged my watches and had to have them serviced. The local Omega watch service people always remember me because I damaged my watches so often. They recommended for me to get cheap watches for when I am working. The service manager personally gave me a Casio digital watch as a gift for me to wear when I am working because he felt sorry for me. This was my first Casio watch. My best value was in getting quartz digital watches in the $200 to $600 range depending on the desired features. After a few years I open and change the batteries myself at an average cost of about $3 to $6 depending on the battery type. I bought a package of assorted gasket rings for watches to replace when necessary. Some of my watches are solar for charging them. I leave these watches in a lit area to keep them charged. They use a capacitor type battery inside that is not difficult to change if needed to be done. I realize the resale or trade in value with these quartz watches is not viable, but buying a quartz watch for $600 is cheaper than having a maintenance done on any mechanical watch. If I damage a Casio or Timex watch they are easy and cheap to replace. Accuracy is within a few seconds per month and I can beat the hell out of them without worry.

HKED chronograph. Manual wind column wheel Venus 175 movement (legitimately bought) Not handled it but it seems to have some cred. Not saying it's a Speedy but I've been tempted several times.

One major difference between Panerai Luminor and Omega Speedmaster is the second hand market. I have both advertised in chrono24 , Omega gets a lot of attention and views, Panerai, not zo much.

I don’t understand the fascination with Speedmasters. Its a pretty bland looking watch IMO. The NASA thing is cool but that’s about it for me. I get why you would choose the pam.

I'll put my PAM 320 up against Speedmaster any day...Speedmaster are ugly and look cheap although the Coaxial movement is really top notch. I have them ranked 1) Rolex 2) Panerai 3) Omega as far as brand that I would purchase. If I could own only ONE watch for the rest of my life though it would be my Submariner in gold and steel. Nothing is even close. It's absolutely stunning. To tell the truth, the best first watch to buy in the world is the all steel Submariner and you really don't need another watch ever after that not unless youre into watches. The Submariner rates a perfect ten for me and I have a gold and steel one so mine is an 11! That said, Panerai is iconic and it's awesome!!!

Speedmaster for me, but rather have the Seamaster as it's just more attractive and classy than Rolex. Rolexes are for people that want to look far more than they are. Such a prententious trinket it's a wonder the brand impresses anymore since it's status as a mark of wealth no longer exists since anyone can afford one eg: 12 payments @ £370 gets anyone a basic Oyster Pep model.

I have both the Seamaster and the Rolex Sub and I prefer the Seamaster with the exception of the terrible Omega bracelet. So dated looking..... So I put it on a strap :).

If you’re looking at max £5k, looking anywhere other than a Speedmaster, in my opinion, is a waste of time.. A LOT of watch for the price! Unbelievable

I think the rolex should cost a little more but not as much more as it is only cuz it beats at 4hz while the omega beats at 3 and a half hz.butthat's just my honest opinion.

Rolex & Omega beats Panerai any day anytime. Panerai is a joke compared to their heritage. Countless limited edition, Snap on caseback to hide undecorated movements that is so ugly with tool marks etc..

Junghans has a heritage with actual connections to the Bauhaus school of design. And while they are probably only licensing his name and at this point, Junghans is the only watchmaker referencing the name of renowned Bauhaus designer Max Bill and they are certainly using some of his designs.
