You're the only guitarist on RU-vid that really "gets" Dime. Amazing stuff man. A lot of people think that in order to sound like Dime and nail his solos you just need to play note for note at speed but that's why 99% of the covers on RU-vid sound nothing like Dime. For example in the studio version of 'Cemetery Gates' when he has that fast run with the ascending arpeggios, most people play that part and give equal weight to each note, which completely ruins the feel of that run. If you listen very closely to the recording you can hear that even when he's playing something lightning fast he's still applying dynamics to it, you hear some notes more than others and this creates the illusion that he's playing less notes than he actually is, because when you slow down the solo to 0.5 or 0.25 speed you hear every note but when played at speed you don't. People read the tabs, don't apply dynamics and then every note stands out and it seems like they're playing too many notes. Very confusing lol but this is the difference between actually nailing a Dime solo or being like 99% of the people out there who don't do him justice.

By the way if anyone is interested in hearing this for yourselves, watch this video and go to the 5 minute 10 second mark. Oh and one more thing to pay attention too. Notice how Dime doesn't play it "on the nose", he plays it ever-so-slighty off beat. This is another thing almost everyone gets wrong.

Love seeing such a detailed look at what's going on. Was smiling hearing when you first heard this tune, as same for me with the Official 101. So much going on live with the little details and dynamics as compared to the album . 5 Minutes Alone has a fully different groove to it that works infinitely better than the rather stilted album version.

Yep I figured that that is actually a common misunderstanding. This song is actually impossible to play with a drop tuning, I mean if You would wanna play as close to the original as possible, because of those two minor thirds at the end of the verses. Thanks You, too btw ;)

Great video, brotha! Thanks! However I don't think it has anything to do with the pick angle though. I've seen Dime playing this riff few time close many years ago. When you play regular palm muting try to slightly move your palm edge you use for muting closer to the string saddles - it opens it up a bit. Rock on! 🤘🤘🤘

I do from time to time use the Kemper but either my power head or a rack version, so I do not have any experience with the new floorboard version. With that sad, if I'd have to choose on which version to got today, I'd definitely go with that one. Wish I could help You more. Ciao!

Nem tudom miért van ez, de ahány videó ,annyi mosolygással töltött délutánom van. Soha Nem gondoltam volna, hogy nekem aki magának szereti törni az utat egyszercsak utat mutatnak, amiről nem akarok letérni. Én aki nem voltam emberközpontú mégis körberajongalak. Ennyire hiteles, szerethető, őszinte, pozitív, csupa szív ember nincs mégegy ezen a Földön. Jó lenne egyszer visszamenni hozzád, akár mosogatni is, mert minden perc nálad többet ér az aranyál. Nem is folytatom, szavakkal úgy sem tudom leírni. Utolsó megjegyzésként jó lenne látni egy magyar bandában kiteljesedni és naphosszat hallgatni.

@Attila Voros I feel like an asshole even posing as a question bc I have adapted ant method that varied tobyours, but why the B flat (A flat) power chord on 1st fret A string instead of continuing to climb past 4th fret 😊

Nono, it’s a great question! It simply sounds different. The low E string sounds darker, bassier, wheres the A string is more “open” sounding, more articulate, and it gives a different dynamic feel to it. Plus slightly I can hear that transition while Dime jumps from the 4th position back to the 1st. But it’s mainly that emphasis that the more articulate sound gives to it what probably the goal was there

the part after the 16th note go back to the riff at 00:58 on the track, i always seem to play out of time, is he doing something else when he starts the riff, i have listend to i like 1000 time, but just are not able to play i right, its driving me crazy.

If I get what You exactly mean it's the verse riff in the original tune (at 0:58), where He went down from 13th to 1st fret... so what He does there is pretty much the same rhytm, it's just slightly more open and not fully muted. I think that's what f-s with Your mind (understandably)

It just sounds different form when he does i when hi plays it with an open E, on that part i have no problem in keeping time. Thanks alot for the answer by the way.
