Thank you Mary for showing what a real healthy stocked pastry looks like… I was watching another you tube showing her pantry and now I fell so anxious about her… everything in her pantry contains soooooooo much preservatives … I don’t think people understand the damage that preservatives in our food causes to our bodies and our kids… thank you for all your efforts in educating the future generations

I'm still watching but LOVE this video Mary! It is wonderful to see your real life pantry! Regarding decision fatigue - Robin at Faith and Flour has helped me overcome this problem so much. She will often reorganize areas again and again. I've always felt such pressure to get it right the first time and then I just become paralyzed with the whole project. But since I started watching Robin a couple of years ago, I feel freedom about organizing. I just put on my "just do it" shoes and do whatever seems to work best at the time, knowing that I can just come back and tweek things if I need to. Thank you for sharing your pantry with us!!

@@MarysNest Speaking of square/rectangle containers: I saw on another channel that they used magazine racks for storing their boxes & packages of spaghetti. You can either store them upright, or, if you lay them skinny side down, you can stack your boxes and not worry about having them slide off of each other.

I paused the video (on my cell phone) and got out my magnifying glass to get a close look at labels, I feel like a nosy parker 😄 but it really helped me with thinking through how I could apply your sorting methods to my own pantry. My pantry is much like yours, but much deeper, so I try to keep larger, less often used items at the back. I'm short too, so I have a step stool stashed between my two small freezers nearby to access to upper shelves. My spaghetti is stored out of the box in a Tupperware celery container I've had for over 40 years that didn't fit in my fridge very well. Fideo is pronounced "fee - day - oh" it's a Mexican food item, used in a tomato and cheese dish that has the same name. I was born, raised, and have lived most of my life in Southern New Mexico near where Hatch chile comes from.

Thank you for sharing about the shelf your dad put in, the bottle openers and the honey bear, etc. Memories of things like that woven throughout our day and home are so special. I so appreciate the recipe ideas and information as you went along too. Whatever works for each person and how they cook, is the right way to organize. The most used items within easy reach is perfect. The bottom of your pantry in the before picture looks like mine from time to time and I'm sure many others can relate. You're so cute being embarrassed but still showed us. Lol I have found for me, I need to empty the whole pantry, cabinet, or closet all at once. I group items as I take them out with like products or things together, checking expiration dates as I go. Maybe even add things from other cabinets or areas that go with it even if not doing those spaces yet. Then I have a good idea of the space I need for each group of things. Sometimes I have piles of things out longer, but it works for me. Since I can't do much at one time now, I sometimes use bins to contain groups of things until I'm done with the gathering stage. Sounds overwhelming this way, but it works great for me in all parts of the house. Thank you for everything you do and share!!!

Love your channel! You are the reason I am working toward having a traditional foods kitchen. A working pantry option for long pasta is to break it in half so it will fit in a shorter jar. I break them in half when I put them in the pan to cook anyway, so this works for me. 🙂

I marathon-watched your videos and put my foot down regarding restructuring / reorganizing my space. It took your 'pepper pantry' and 4 corners concept to convince my husband that it should be done. It was an exhausting chaotic week (or longer) but it's done and we couldn't be happier. Truth be told, I was cursing you at times lol, when I realized I also needed to inventory, restock and organize all our storage areas. I can't thank you enough for the motivation! God bless :)

Hi Sweet Mary, I'd like to tell you a little about Mère Poulard. She has a restaurant on the Mont Saint Michel. A very special Town built on a rock in the sea. I think you can see the silhouette of the Mont Saint Michel on your tin. Mère Poulard is known for her pancakes. When you walk by the restaurant, they are making the pancakes in their big bowls by hand. And they use différent rythmes, it sounds like joyfull music. They open the windows , so you can hear it in the Streets. When you visit Europe, you really should visit Mont Saint Michel. You won't regret it ! 💕

OCCASIONally Aldi have clear storage ‘fridge’ bins/containers. I use these in my fridge and pantries to keep shelves tidy; to easily access items at the back of the shelf; to catch crumbs & spills = easy cleanup. WHEN it comes to decision fatigue, I give myself some grace and accept that it’s ok to put things away without too much thought stress. You can always switch things around later once you realise that things may work better in different places. 😊

Mary be careful leaving dry goods in boxes. The boxes can contaminate your entire pantry. I have been told by many boaters (presently living aboard) that cockroaches lay eggs inside the cardboard boxes - so never bring boxes aboard the boat. Just bug, even weevils can destroy all the dry goods in the pantry. My little Italian grandma taught my mom who past it on to me - put bay leaves in my dry goods. It apparently works as - No bugs in flour, cereal, pasta, crackers etc. thanks for all your wonderful ideas. I will try and follow more of your ideas in our Tuscan home.

Ms. Mary, for storage of pastas (spaghetti) I use those tins that surface around Christmas, that have popcorn in them. I also hit the Goodwill type stores around Christmas, because they usually have lots of the metal cans in all sizes. I actually have a metal “nut cracker” looking tin that is about 14-16” tall, filled with spaghetti. I set him out near the Christmas tree (spaghetti and all) lol.

I go through my pantry twice a year. Everything comes out, gets cleaned and then reorganised. I dont have problems making decisions, for some reason it all just slots in nicely but my biggest problem is getting started. During those two years of what we are not supposed to mention, I was like you and for some reason I couldn’t do anything much except cook and just the basic necessities, I was stuck. I found that if i attack projects in 10 minute blocks, then have a little rest, then do another 10 minutes, by the end of the day I’ve completed the task.

For storing long pasta like lasagna sheets or spaghetti, I’ve found plastic boxes with locking snap lids (with air tight gaskets) on Amazon. They are marketed as bread loaf keepers. I’ve found repackaging my dry goods saves me space. I can consolidate several store packages into my own “standardized” containers to fit more product into less space while better protecting from pests and degradation.

Mary, somehow I found you and have watched several videos. You have incentivized me to extend my prepper pantry for the future unknown. I love to organize and look forward to it. The top shelf of my pantry has about 2' of real estate that I realized is unused. I took a 2 wired shelfs similar to where you stock your molasses and stacked them to utilize that space. I use bins especially for items hard to reach. Because of you, I ordered jars and food grade oxygen absorbers and now have pasta, rice, and millet in those (I broke the spaghetti in half). I put the beans in food grade plastic containers that I can stack. I recently pulled everything out and marked the best buy date with a thin magic marker on the front of the labels to make it easier to see. With the glass jars, I marked on masking tape. I also keep trash bags, baking items and spices in kitchen cabinets. Looking forward to your other videos. Blessings!

I’m so grateful you shared your pantries with us! When watching your tutorials, I often wonder how you store all the appliances you utilize, along with the homemade items (the ones in large jars)! My kitchen isn’t small, but it’s also not large. We have dropped cabinets (large gap b/w the cabinets top & the ceiling.. not sure what that’s called lol) I store my blenders, coffee grinder, instant pot, crock pot & a couple other things up there. My counters are very full still… 🙁 Kind of at a breaking point, since I don’t wanna get rid of any of them, as I use them. And so, less than a wk ago, I went to Goodwill, and bought what is considered a TV/entertainment stand, and turned it into a sort of portable (not really) pantry. While I have 2 pantries, they’re not walk-ins. So I needed something else. I am very pleased with the turnout of the “portable pantry“ I paid $25 for it. With member discount, of course. It’s basically my baking pantry, and thank God, it is STOCKED. I began baking in October or November ‘22. Prior to that, I had not really done much. Sourdough is what began my baking journey & bc I had no idea what to do, I searched for videos & eventually found you! Anyhow, I enjoy your videos and just want to say thank you for letting us into your home, and sharing your wealth of knowledge. God bless

My motivations to prepare an extended pantry began as a solution for putting together meals in case of sickness, job loss, poor driving conditions or blackouts, Hydro here goes out a few times a year and there is possibility of blizzards or ice storms, I am in London, Ontario, Canada. I began with amounts for 3 weeks of emergency food. Then I worked my way up to a year's worth for me or lesser time sharing with others.

I "hire" grandkids to bring cans, etc. from downstairs to restock. When something is used, it goes on the shopping list to be bought on sale. Then downstairs it goes. I love the inventory you provide.
