Every time I'm nauseous/vomity I end up eating an entire sleeve or two of saltines and nothing else except maybe some toast and then wonder why I didn't lose any weight while I was sick.
@Medroff Saltines are good when you're sick because they're generally pretty inoffensive to your stomach. Plus the salt can replenish a bit of the electrolytes you may have lost from various sickly bodily functions.
As long as we can get flour , and I forget which, but baking soda or baking powder, just add water and bake. Salt of course for the saltines... I already had a stock pile of those because I was raised by Grandma who lived through the Great Depression.
Alton, I've gotta say, all these little mini web videos are just as good as anything you make on TV. PLEASE keep making lots of them when this whole crisis is resolved! Also, is there anywhere I can find the version of the hand washing video with the cleaver? I thought it was hilarious.
Or just crush the things and use them like cheap Panko. (My late grandpa had a wonderful Breaded Walleye repice that did that...) EDIT: Or you can use Alton’s application on Oyster Crackers instead of saltines.
Gramma B taught me the joys of Depression era "cookies." Saltine, butter, and a pinch of white sugar. Mmm. She and I also had our own stick of butter at Thanksgiving. Not necessarily proud, but not ashamed either! Also there's gravy bread but I better not think of that, might be tempted. You are the best, Alton, many years of happy, educational, moments. Sorry, one more thing:watching GE caused a epiphany, mom had stored away the same Franciscan ware with the awesome MCM design that you featured. We now use it. Ok, cheers, out
I’m almost seventy and I remember when I was a kid, after Thanksgiving and Christmas, my mom would make us white bread with gravy for lunch. What I recall, it was really good! Back then we worked or played it all off though.
Oh my goodness, you didn’t say anything and you are still the funniest guy to watch. Thank you. I have watched you for years, and I have learned and used more of your advice than anyone. These videos are the best and funniest.
You're so animated, you're probably one of the few people that could make a "silent" video like this incredibly entertaining. As much as I love hearing your wit and humor, this quiet video was very calming and relaxing to watch. Great stuff as always, Alton. Thanks for helping keep us trying new things and exploring the ingredients we have laying around in these more desperate times!
I hard stocked up on saltines weeks ago when everything else was sold out. Panicked sheep at the store don't know whats good. Almost 3K Calories for a dollar, thats how you survive
I just love your creative brain and fabulous taste buds!!! Got so very tired of seeing these videos of the latest quarantine pantry videos and then you come out with this gem! Thanks Alton!
These make me think of a version a friend would make. His version used butter, ranch mix and cayenne pepper. Preparation was similar toss all the crackers in the goodness and bake. Loving the new videos and Live Streams
New sub! Loving what you’re doing. Really nice to see you at home enjoying things with your wife in the kitchen! My wife and I have a 3 yr old boy and 1 year old boy and we have been making them some Alton classics. I made skirt steak today on the bbq today for the first time with your inspiration Cheers From Vancouver Island Canada
This is exactly how I "cook." What the heck can I do with a packet of saltines, mustard powder, hot sauce and butter? You get used to creativity when you have nothing in the pantry.
pigglet and pooh bear, Sounds yummy! We never use the entire season packet in our ramen. Now I have a new use for the jar of left over ramen seasoning- Thanks for the tip 👍
Also, the subtlety of the production is killing me! I hear the squeak of the lazy susan, but then there's the little "whoosh" of the bottles being picked up, with the ambient music track bed. I'm going to have a hard time adjusting back to the "electric" Good Eats when the "acoustic" Good Eats are so much fun! And I haven't even watched the whole thing yet. Thank you, Mr. Brown.
Thanks for this laugh! I really needed it after a long day of work. Can't wait to try it, but first have to watch for third time to see that face and the blowtorch!
@@kirbyw.3451 - yeah, I did too. Went for cornmeal and oats over wheat flour. In part because child is a celiac. Have plenty of her flour in the house too.
I am SO happy Alton Brown has a RU-vid channel! I have watched you since I was a kid. You are funny, creative and really know the science (and art) of cooking. Love and respect you always.
Jeff R, et al. - nope. Oven temp. High temp right out of oven, and on the Hot ones thing, he cheated!! But it’s still damn funny! 😷 (you can’t see me laugh because I’m practicing safe laughing)
I respect your opinion but I don't understand takis why would anyone like lime and spicy I can't handle that mix kinda like jalapeno flavor it's not my gallon of coffee
Cyborg panda 113 Panda, Believe me, I understand where you’re coming from. There are some spicy & sour combos that I can’t handle. Taki’ just happens to be one that I can. I love jalapeños, but, in some dishes I get nauseous for a good hour after eating them. I should also state that I love sour and vinegary things. I’ll put lemon or lime on almost anything. We’re a family of nine and more than half of our kids do not like Taki’. The other half devours them! 🙃 Be well, stay kind and blessings ~
