That was the best tank of WWII.. Panther!! After they fixed a couple minor issues that tank was just wicked. wide track, long barrel high velocity gun, more capable then the Tiger I. Just an outstanding tank. I have to say Tanks today are pretty on par.. meaning one shot from a MBT and it can ruin your day.. but I would still favor the Leopard 2A7 with Long Barrel. As a Vet I can say the Abrams has not met any really good tank crews except in training.

@MadGuyMunich Die maximale Drehzahl des Motors wurde bei späteren Versionen begrenzt damit der Motor länger hält. Bei diesen gedrosselten Motoren hatte die Turmdrehmechanik dann genügend Motorreserve um den Turm in 18 Sekunden um 360grad zu drehen. Kommt also hin mit den Bildern ;-)

U have to know that the antena is mounted on a flexibel rubber base , maybe the crew bend the antena down bevor combat . But the position and size is 100% correct unless what u see in a video of those days . Keep in mind that spare parts where rar in this time and a tank also could enter combat with a damaged antena ...

@MadGuyMunich Das lag daran das der Panther bereits einen Elektrisch drehenden Turm hatte im gegensatz zu vielen anderen Panzern, er war absolut Weltklasse.

Just too bad that these tanks don't have the hull-mounted MG, I think that would be a real great final touch.

Take a look at Waldemar Trojcas "Panther Ausf. G " or other good books , the antena is right in the place it should be . If you have seen a lot of videos u may not have noticed the antena or it was removed / damaged during combat .

@Ialocin1985 I think u can see that tank in Koblenz at the "Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung", they got the biggest tank collection in germany and sometimes they make a show with them. Excuse me for my english :P peace up

@girlonwork Bei der 88-Kanone des Tigers befindest Du Dich im Irrtum. Die kleinere Kanone des Panthers war besser als die 88 des Tigers, wie ich bereits oben schon einmal erwähnte. Das wird in den Berichten über den Panther immer ausdrücklich erwähnt. Der Panther wurde von den Allierten als der beste Panzer des Krieges bezeichnet und von den Franzosen nach dem Krieg weiterhin benutzt. Die Kanone des Panthers war so gut, daß diese für die neueren französichen Panzer gleich weitergebaut wurde.

@Maxobillion The Jagdpanther which was displayed in Bovington? I had contact with somebody who told me that our video discription is not correct. I wrote there that this tank is the only one left in original running conditon. He told me that he integrated the transmitter eqipment and that this tank is very close to the original.

The resemblance to the T-34 on which it was based are very noticeable.

@Maxobillion The costs can hardly be calculated. I will check about the aproximate manhours. Unfortunately there aren't too much specialists around there.

@girlonwork Die Wikipedia sagt alles über die Schwächen des Jagdtigers gegenüber dem leichteren, schnelleren, mit höherer Feuergeschwindigkeit versehenen Panther. Die Panzerung des Jagdtigers war nie durchschlagen worden. Dafür sorgte das sehr hohe Gewicht für den häufigen Ausfall der Motortechnik / einen enorm hohen Benzinverbrauch. Dann muß die Crew aussteigen, wenn der Panzer aus diesen Gründen liegengeblieben ist oder aufgrund seiner Langsamkeit ausgekurvt + in die Ketten geschossen wurde.

@infernalzen Not necessarily. This isn't like a Patek Philippe, a Bentley or a sailboat. It is rather unique and I have NEVER seen one come up for sale. The only person I know that restored one on his own is Jacques Littlefield. I am just curious to see what one of these would cost if it ever came up for sale. What the replacement value is.

@girlonwork Du erwähntest Panzerung und Kanone. Die Kanone des Königstigers ist größer als die Kanone des Panthers. Dennoch wird in allen Dokumentationen erwähnt, daß die Kanone des Panthers absolut besser war. Dicke Panzerung hatte der Königtiger auch. Dennoch ist das Sicherheitselement Beweglichkeit von den Historikern so hoch eingeschätzt worden, daß der Panther auch hier den allerbesten Kompromiß in Sachen Panzerung darstellt. Der Panther ist somit also sicherer und tödlicher als ein Tiger.

And does this change the german classification ? German Wehrmacht classified this tank as a Medium tank and all other nations do this too , so it stays a medium tank . To call it a heavy tank is simply wrong . And that ´s what i say .

If one of these were ever to come up for sale, what would they be worth? What is the cost of restoring one?

@girlonwork Der russische Panzer kann schwer sein wie er will, wenn er eingeholt, umkurvt und in die Ketten geschossen wird. Der Panther war sicherer für seine Crew und tödlicher im Kampf auch mit größeren Panzern, als es die anderen deutschen Riesenpanzer je waren. Der Jagdtiger war einfach zu schwer/ unbeweglich/ anfällig. Deshalb gilt ja auch der Leopard 2 als der beste Panzer auf der Welt. Beweglichkeit = Sicherheit. Unbewegliche "Bunker" werden umgangen und geknackt wie die Maginot linie.

Ich würde ja gerne mitlachen...

Ich meinte eigentlich mehr die arme Infantrie die den Panzern auch mal allein die Stirn bieten mussten...

@megatwingo ja das ist mir bewusst ich meinte aber einfach das wenn 2 panzer aufeinander treffen bsp: russischer IS-3 vs dann ist der jagt tiger/königstiger deutlich besser, da die kanone des panthers nicht einmal durch die seiten-panzerung gehen würde. die 88 von der tiger reihe oder die schwerste 12(5?)mm kanone von dem jagt tiger würden dann deutlich im vorteil sein. das die panther schnell und verlässlich sind weiß ich auch und dass der panther ein deutlich besserer "standart" panzer ist. ;D

@megatwingo ja wenn es um eine armee geht (ich mein die panzer an sich) aber wenn man nunmal die wahl zwischen einem jagt tiger mit 150mm front panzerung un 12? mm kannone ist doch klar welcher stärker ist

@girlonwork Ohne als Besserwisser dastehen zu wollen, aber so weit ich weiß, ist der Panther laut der Meinung von Waffenhistorikern der beste deutsche Panzer des 2. Weltkrieges. Besser als Tiger und besser als Königstiger. Das fängt bei der Kanone an und hört bei dem optimalen Kompromiß zwischen Beweglichkeit und Panzerung auf.

@VictumRoManius the comparison is bad.... the tiger was a heavy tank... and i think that's where it ends. you can compare the panther to a pzkpfw IV, a T34 and so on. it had a different role from the Tiger. the Panther was the kind of a fast tank which was the first to attack. the Tiger was the type of tank which rescued tanks like Panthers when the battle was getting bigger and bigger... Operation Citadel and the Ardennes offensive prove it. yet the Tiger got more kills than the Panther.

Unfortunatlely the money to run this tank ( and others ) was spend for greece and other countrys , alos for EU .

i agree the sherman was a "TOY". the panther and tiger was a killer on the battlefield. i'm not a big fan of the T34. the say it was the best tank in WWII, yet so many where knocked out by german tanks. 30 T34s vs 4 tigers was a fair fight back then.lucky for us hitler was nuts.

@girlonwork Ich verstehe Deine Antwort nicht so ganz. Wenn es um eine Armee geht? Panzer sind Teile einer Armee, richtig. Du erwähntest den Tiger als den besten Panzer. Laut Aussage aller Historiker in sämtlichen Dokumentationen welche ich bisher sah, ist der Panther der beste deutsche Panzer des 2. Welkrieges. Besser als der beste Panzer geht nicht. Es sei denn natürlich, Du weißt mehr als sämtliche Online Quellen und Dokumentationen, welche ich bisher (auch auf internationaler Ebene) sah.

@DarthBendon naja.. wenn da aber ein Paar Panther kommen und du selbst in einem Verband mit hunderten t34 oder shermans fährst, dann verfliegt die angst sicher ganz schnell..
