+johan cruijff Beckenbauer is not a defender he has great defending abilities. and maldini is left back not center defender he played most of his career as a left back and then he played as a center defender . so the center defenders are baresi who played as libro and sweeper and center back as well alesandro nesta Fabio cannavaro sciria gentily costa corta
looseyourzlf Beckenbauer started as a midfielder when he was younger which probably helped him become so technically good on the ball but he played as a sweeper (which is really a central defender) for the majority of his career. I think Jurgen Kohler was a brilliant central defender also and would have made an excellent partner for either Beckenbauer or Baresi.

I want to remember that Maldini, in his career has played something like 20 finals between National team, Champions League, European Supercup and so on. You're right but some english (or spanish) people want to denigrate maldini only because he's italian, and I can't accept this.. If a player is as great as Maldini is, he can be a legend fo you even if you don't like his nationality..
