There is no shortage of floor-standing speakers in the $2k/pair price range, yet Paradigm has come full force with their Premier Series to stand toe-to-toe with the best. Using technology trickled down from their acclaimed Persona series, Paradigm's Premier line allows audio enthusiasts to get some of the high-end sound of the Personas but without paying the high-end price tags. We take a close look at the Premier 800F floor-standing and 500C center speakers to determine if Paradigm pulled off a sonic miracle in the Family room of the new AH Smarthome.

Just bought a pair of these and I am very, very impressed. They are very accurate, with great detail throughout the frequency range without being bright or shouty. I'm continually impressed with how natural instruments sound. Saxophones come alive and the sound of upright bass strings buzzing against the fingerboard makes it sound like the players are in the room with you. I can listen for hours with no fatigue whatsoever.

Glad you showcased these in your home. Paradigm just doesn’t get the love and they make such great looking and sounding speakers. I have the 800f/600c setup on Parasound power and they punch well above their class. Came down to KEF R7/11, B&W 702s2, Prestige 95/85 and the 800f. It was a no brainer. These play in $4-5k range and the bang for buck helped put the Parasounds in the rack. As you mentioned they do like mating with the three SVS subs and for the record I also took KEF R3’s for my much smaller stereo room. Next stop, Founder 100f. Can’t wait to take the 800f’s toe to toe with them. Pretty sure the Founders will make the cut!

What did you like about the 800fover the KEF or the B&W? I'm considering if I should try out the 800f or jump straight to the Founders for my living room home theater setup. It's a huge bump in price but I'd rather buy once and not always wonder what I'm missing out on.

@@Smellslikegelfling the 800f/600c combo just punched way above its price point. A $2k speaker pair going at it with $5k speakers blew me away. If you can get something this great for $2k out of Paradigm Premier, just think what Founders can do. If I were to do it again, I’d be chasing Founders 100f. It’s closer to an end game speaker.

Got the Premier 800f’s and 600c in my family room in the same espresso finish. Great speakers all across the board. The biggest selling point is my wife literally loves the look of them so much. She hates everything audio, but she said that if we put these speakers in our home, she’d be ok with it. So just like that, I bought them. lol Great for movies and TV and the occasional music streaming. I have a pair of Polk Lsim 705’s in my 2 channel basement setup and those are still my go-to for heavy music listening sessions, but I’m more than happy with the Premier’s handling the rest of our audio needs in the household. 🔊

@@igorerovenko I can only really speak on the Lsim’s because I haven’t had the chance to demo many Polk speaker lines, but they take a slight edge for music listening, imo. Great review---I'm a Paradigm home theatre listener, purchased my system waayyy back. I have the Monitor 5V.3 tri-speakers left and right, and a matching center channel for good tamber between the three. My 5.1 system has rear speakers that have always been a challenge using some small non-ceiling mounted Paradigms, but I think you solved it. I'm now looking into the angled in-ceiling Elite E-80s to bring the rear sounds downward at a 30 degree angle. My room is similar to yours, with large area rug (without the elaborate sound absorption fixtures on the front wall), and like yours, have the rear of the room open to the kitchen. Need an active filter with amp to produce out-of-phase dish washing sounds coming from behind me! Thanks, Mr. DelaSalla.

I've got a pretty decent sized room (approx 16x27) and the way the speakers fill the room and beyond is quite impressive. The 600c is the first center channel I've owned after 13 years with just towers, and I was somewhat skeptical of the beneft. Needless to say, I am wowed every time a good surround movie is playing. This isn't really about this video but it's your most recent post so I figured chances were highest to be noticed here. I have a question about "system resolution". In certain audiophile forums I constantly get denounced for trying to dissuade people from believing that exotic cables and interconnects do have noticeable audible effects on your system and you worry about other components. The number one factor I am constantly told as to why I personally can't detect the difference between cable swaps is become my system isn't resolved or have high enough resolution. Here's my system: Windows PC Streaming Amazon HD -> USB to audio Interface (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 2) -> 1/4 to RCA cables feed my NAD C372 - > 14 gauge speaker wire feeds PSB Stratus Gold(i)s. Those that promote cables also tell me I'll never hear the cable differences because I'm streaming from a noisy PC and using a USB DAC. I should someone eliminate USB all together and I suppose get a stand alone streamer + DAC that uses coaxial cable, only then can I stand a chance to hear what cables can do for a system. Is there any validity to this?

Good to see that Paradigm keeps designing and getting better. What else but a Canadian speaker works for Rush! Okay, many but just not surround sound for Rush. My first Paradigms were Se3's Around 2011. Then Studio 20 V5, then Studio CC590 center. More recent Prestige 95f's and cc55 center. Se3's blew me away. Now they are my surrounds. CC590's are now up firing from behind my couch. My Prestige 95F's sound better to me than all the older models. You can make them sound any way you want. I think its because of the aluminum driver. They look like the RVH's! With Premier and now Founder they changed. I have not heard them to compare. Would like to know how they stack against previous lines too! But won't likely give up my 95F's It took me all my life so far to get to have them. So my fronts and center are Prestige and my surrounds and rears are Special Edition and Studio. Nice mix to my ears.

Great video, thanks. How do you think those speakers compare with the SVS Ultra towers and Ultra Center … pretty much exactly the same price point? Thanks again.
@sturdyvw
@sturdyvw 3 года назад
I've had both, the ultra has a very different midrange than most hifi speakers. I think the svs is too laid back for my tastes especially for an HT focused brand. I struggled to hear dialect through the svs center at lower volumes, where as the paradigm 600c is crystal clear. Drums and bass impacts sound bigger on the svs ultra towers but MUCH more accurate on the 800f. You can hear what drums actually sound like through the paradigms. They are both similar in the upper registers, very smooth for an aluminum tweeter, but the svs sounds synthesized. If you only listen to club music, and always have it cranked you'd be happy with the svs. If your musical tastes are more open than I think, long term, you'd be happier with a more accurate, 800f, than the svs. The center on the svs ultra lineup is an absolute letdown.

Another great review Gene! I currently have a 5.1 system dialed in : 4 x 800F and a 600C (powered by the Denon AVR-x6700h ), with a Rythmik F18 subwoofer. I want to add four Dolby Height speakers and a VoG speaker directly overhead. Room is a family room that is relatively same size as your family room. You mention you like the CI Elite 60Rs and state they are firing straight downward. Do you prefer that over ceiling height speakers that can be angled towards the listening position?

The Elite 80s are angled toward listening area and are used as surrounds, the 4x Elite 65s are downward for Atmos. I find this incredibly effective.

Thanks for high lighting these sleepers Gene. Like others have mentioned there isn't a lot of marketing out for the premier line but oh boy they pump some sweet sonic bliss. I'm pushing them with a Nad 275bee pre-outing w/ a pioneer elite SC LX 704. They sound EXCELLENT and you are correct they really do need a dynamic amplifier. I tried first my adcom GFA 5800 but the bass response was lagging. Denon poa 2400 made them definitely sound warm but the 275bee just push ever driver in the cabinet as it was made to sound. The sound stage is extremely generous. I'm a actually looking for another amplifier, a 3 channel to power my vintage LCR6 S2 & the 800Fs . Anyone have some thoughts on

New list in order Arendal 1723 THX SVS Ultra Polk R700 I don't have a dedicated theater room yet just the living room 😅😅 I like the aesthetics of the arendal and love the idea of 8 inch speakers for my center. The SVS is a close second because of price and has a 3 way center. I like the look of the Polk r700 better than the SVS ultra but the center channel is 2way on Polk, and if I can't have a 3way with some 8's I'd take a 2 way with some 6 1/2 half price being equal. From what I have gathered these 3 speakers fit my hearing tastes?? The best as well as aesthetics.

Im a long term paradigm owner since owing a pair of 11se mkii , but the days of being able to listen to this stuff ahead of time seem gone. I bought these same speakers about 2 years ago without auditioning them, and I struggled for a long time to get the sound I wanted. Gene is 100% correct, the speakers are dead flat on the frequency spectrum. The part that I couldn’t get right was the lower bass below about 80Hz. I couldn’t get the woofers to move with a drum kick, or a fat bass line. By cranking the bass knob (Anthem MRX 720) I was boosting stuff above 80Hz, and that wasn’t getting me what I wanted. Why cant 800F’s get down there?!? I’m fundamentally against crossing over a floor standing speaker and letting the sub do the work… because then why did I buy a floor stander? You might be better off buying the bookshelf version as the 200b sound that I heard was about the same as the 800F in the bass department, but I didn’t A/B directly. If you want to hear a very similar speaker, listen to the Martin Logan 40i’s at the big box store. In fact, I was a/b ing these two speakers and lost track of which speaker is which… until turning the bass up. The ML’s gave me a little more of the bass tuning that I wanted, and of course the ribbon tweeters are just a little tiny bit more resolving. As for center channels, the 500c did much better at male voices than the ML 30i. The 500c is a really good speaker and I had no problem with that. I really think the 200B and 500C would be perfect together. Anyway, I ended up buying much more expensive speakers (2.5x the price) and now I have what I want.

I can help! I actually have all three at my house right now. Polk r700 - neutral, right down the middle sound, great bass but that's with a 300 rms monoblock so ymmv, r400 center sounds ok but can't quite flesh out details like the r700 tower. SVS ultra tower - sounds like someone put a pillow over the singer in just about all music or movies, this effect is super noticeable after listening to the paradigm and polk. The svs center is the biggest letdown, hard for me to describe but it sounds like something isn't quite right, all of the time, sometimes a voice will sound ok then in the same scene it doesn't. The paradigm has less bass extension than the other two, BUT it has a ton more detail and punch to the bass. You can hear what a stand up bass or a kick drum sounds like, you can actually hear the size of the instrument instead of a "thud" like the other two. Both the polk and the paradigm are more accurate and to me sound more natural in the midrange, where most of the music is. Build quality on all three is ok. The finish on the polk is laughable compared to the svs and paradigm (if that matters). So to sum it up, if you never heard the polk or the paradigm, or any speaker with a flat response, you'd never know what you were missing. Once you do though, I don't think you'd be able to even listen to the svs in passing without thinking something was wrong with the speaker. It's not that flat measuring or accurate speakers always sound the same because that's not true, but they always sound better than ones with poorly designed crossovers or lumpy response curves (SVS). The cabinet of the svs will fool you into thinking you've got a great piece of equipment for the money, you get a great cabinet for the money, the rest is cheap chinese parts, iron core inductors and sand cast resisters on the crossover are no better than what you find on the $150 speakers. For me the Polk or the Paradigm are better choices. The paradigms are made in Canada which I respect and think is amazing for the price, they didn't make excuses. I really like the Polk for what they are, and a ton of people will love them, but A/B to the 800f you can really hear a lot of detail go missing with the polks. I spent a lot of time with all of them and more speakers, and those are just my opinions. I hope it helps!

With that amp, 100% paradigms! Not even a question, I've owned both. The SVS need 300 rms to get the party started, when you do they have a massive sound and bass but with that little of power you won't even get them moving. The paradigms are more forward and detailed than the revel, revel is VERY laid back. If you have sensitive ears than they are your ticket. For 90% movies, just buy the 800f already, you won't be upset, just keep in mind they take a full 100 hours to sound their best.
