Paragliding Mount Caburn and getting pinned over takeoff

Winds were high (top end) at Mount Caburn. I decided to take off, but probably should have kept my feet on the ground.
I got to 50 meters above take off and realised I wasn't moving forward. This can get a bit scary, because if you tap the breaks, you go backwards. This in turn can get you pushed back over the hill and into the teeth of some nasty turbulance.
I contemplated landing on top, but the wind was too high and I chose instead to land at the bottom. This would save me a walk anyway, so it was worth.
I never really want to do a top to bottom, preferring to stay up as long as possible. Top to bottom flights are actually very exciting. You have a target to aim for and you need to navigate the air so that you approach your target at the right height and from the right direction.
Thank you once again Mount Caburn!

I flew Caburn yesterday and it was surprisingly smooth!! No great height and we were all assigned to the west facing hill... otherwise it was a good days flying!
