We are working on having a Self-Cleaning Home and have made tremendous progress. This is the first of many videos that I explain the steps we are taking to make a Self-Cleaning house a reality. This video covers how we teach our kids obedience and the desire to please. I show what tools we use to track their progress and how we reward their progress and hard work.
Here is a link for the skylight calendar that you can get on amazon.

Thank you for explaining these things. I have five boys, (12 years old on down) and we implemented your laundry system maybe six months ago. It’s been a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and my boys are doing a fantastic job with it. Each person in our family washes their own coat, sheets, and bath towel as needed with their laundry, and so I only end up doing mine and My husband’s wash once a week! Amazing. It’s been so fun, we clap and congratulate each boy on the morning of their laundry day, and they think it’s so funny to encourage their brothers along. We have quite a sense of humor about it, but most of all the boys feel so proud of helping me run the house. Thank you!

Hi Nancy, It was so lovely to see a new video from you. I didn't have lots of children as you do, but I never had to clean my home because it was always kept clean each day. My mother had told me very early on to ignore the bad and praise the good. Children don't know the difference between the two at first, but they will always seek praise. I never once nagged my children, and my children also never rebelled. We enjoyed every single moment with our children, and they knew this and craved that attention as well. What a great system you have created for your children! Interesting video!

Here's the questions I have haha. And content ideas in general. I'm a LDS mom of 5 and love seeing how larger families function. 1 - Why do you have that many kids? Religion? Don't believe in birth control? Life calling or enjoy the challenge etc. 2 - What do you do to be able to afford that many kids? 3 - What has worked for you to maintain your sanity? 4 - How have you and your husband been able to maintain a strong marriage with the heavy life load? 5 - What systems have you developed for your family(like this video)? 6 - Meals

20:42 So true about checking the kids’ work every single day… hard to do but I’m learning the importance of this myself. They say “inspect what you expect” and that rings true for family responsibilities. What a wonderful system you have. I send you heartfelt congratulations for raising a big, beautiful, and responsible crop of children, who will go on to live productive lives as adults. We need more people like this in our country and in our churches. Thank you SO MUCH for showing the way for so many families who so desperately need to learn how to raise children. I am so sad that many people nowadays don’t want to have children, and I think one of the reasons is that they don’t know how to raise them properly, so that they will be a joy to be with-not only for their parents (who tend to be able to tolerate more than others) but also bring joy to others-teachers, friends, etc. that they interact with. May God BLESS you abundantly as you raise these precious children!

I make sure and eat healthy, get some exercise in of some sort even if it’s just walking around the block with some of the kids. I have noticed after my last baby I just haven’t had as much energy as I usually do so I did a blood draw to check all my levels to find out what I was low/high in and sure enough everything that was out of line was making me groggy. I immediately started to take the missing vitamins that I needed to get my energy back up and include the foods in my diet that would help as well. I know I have to take care of me so i can be there to take care of my kids. I put my health and my kids health as a high priority.

I wonder isn't that system complicated or stressful for children? I even tried to imagine how parents dealed with their kids centuries ago. May be regular reminding is better and not so much of reward. I mean a habit usually doesn't need constant reward. And explaining why it is important to be clean and organized is helpful. Just for the sake of experiment, what if you remember and observe who does and doesn't do things around the house without their reports and talking to those who skip their duties. I don't find it effective in a long run to reward for every tiny thing they do. 🙄

Stumbled upon this video, Beautiful home and family, your kids are very fortunate to grow up in such a lovely space, the word obedience really made me shutter as well as people pleasing, positive reinforcement isn’t a new idea and is the standard now in behavior management, but u can teach ur kids to be respectful, listen, and responsible without being an obedient people-pleaser, because obedience is a negative term and u can be kind and friendly without being a people-pleaser which is also negative… not a fan of how the older kids have to assist the younger ones, reminds me of Duggars buddy system - u decided to continue to be blessed with babies so up to a certain age, u should be responsible for them - older kids can babysit and help out but should never be in charge of oversight of little ones daily… In theory ur method is nice and necessary I would imagine to some extent, but most large families, most families in general don’t have the benefit of a huge home with baby changing stations and 2 dishwashers, etc. - please don’t use ur family on the internet to make money, it never comes out ok…

Great approach! Many parents these days treat children like they're destined to play & have fun and don't give them any tasks to do. Unfortunately, such a thoughtfullness will cause a harm to their children, as they won't be able to deal with life. Btw. Do you homekeep on your own or do you share home chores (excluding those which are assigned to children) with your husband? I am asking as today is tendency to expecting that a husband will cook, clean house, do a laundry, babysitting and other traditionally feminine chores in a same or similiar amount of time as a wife. I saw that yours family is christian, so this suggests that you, and your husband are fulfilling traditional, biblical gender roles, but as I know from observing, there are many marriages, even these christian, who are opposite to the biblical order in the marriage. Best regards!

How about the little kids???? I do agree with positive reinforcement and praise when they do well. And of course follow through is very important. Kids need a routine and rules to follow that’s for sure. I think too many parents are using the computer for their babysitters. This is lazy and it is harming their children.

The emphasis on desire to please and obedience really rubs me the wrong way. How are these qualities important for their adult life?

It is critical if you want your kids to be able to keep a job, perform tasks to a high level of excellence, be teachable, have a desire to make their spouse happy or a desire to make others happy. I do not hire employees that are not obedient or that don't have a desire to perform at an excellent level. If either of these problems surface we address them quickly and if they can't be resolved we terminate the employee promptly. It amazes me how the world teaches rebellion in the family but accepts strict obedience it in a corporate environment, they do this because a weak broken family is easier to control and so many buy into this school of thought like sheep, believing that they are being empowered but they are actually handicapping themselves and their future.

@@NicholasYoungDT Obedience has nothing (or at least not a whole lot) to do with qualities such as being teachable or striving for the best performance possible. Let alone with a happy family life. No, you do not need to obey your spouse to have a happy, long-term relationship. Respect each other? Sure. But not obey.

@@zlatickoxt so when your manager trains you on your business routine and you think you know better and don’t follow instructions how does disobedience not hurt your job performance?

@@NicholasYoungDT I'm not saying you should never obey anybody. You definitely should. But you shouldn't do so blindly, out of desire to please people. That's what I'd never want to teach my children. Of course there will be situations in life where you may even have to go against what you think is best, such as in a work setting, and obey. But you should never push yourself into doing anything that could harm you or others just because you want to please someone or because you feel like you have to obey any command that comes from an authority. That doesn't mean you should quit or "rebel" as soon as you don't particularly love something that you're supposed to do. I wouldn't teach my children obedience but that doesn't mean I wouldn't teach them the value of hard work and humility, respect for other people, their knowledge, experience, etc.

I don’t think it’s right that the older kids are responsible for the younger kids washing and chores believe me those older kids will grow up and resent having these responsibilities how do I know this it’s because I lived with my dad for a couple of years and this was what my stepmother would do and I don’t care how much you say your kids don’t care if you really sat down and ask the older kids exactly how they feel about doing the washing I bet if they are allowed to be honest with you they will all say they don’t like it.why have so many kids if you expect the older kids to take care of the younger ones. You give of a lot of vibes similar to the Duggar’s and we all know how they turned out

Did you watch the video? The dog training similarity she explained is that positive reinforcement, praise, and prizes work better than physical punishment and negative reinforcement to develop personal responsibility, and self-discipline. What a “scandal”.

I can’t believe you even have a 1 yr old doing chores I feel you have had too many kids because you have them doing the chores that you should be doing as a mom. I hope to god your not LDS. Because that is just going to add more trauma on these kids then they already have
