I love her for bringing a glaring light to "famous for being famous." She played us all and walked off with the bag. But instead of actually opening peoples eyes to the absurdity of it all, she really just created a blueprint for more "useless" celebrities and influencers to come. @@afonsords I think neither of them were necessarily intentionally one thing at first. After they were “typecast”, so to speak, they just embraced it. The media and the public, they all *wanted* them to be a certain way. Breaking out of that image would have been either near impossible or really career damaging. Megan Fox has talked about this, how headlines and the public have affected her and her image for a long time. And as the video states, Paris represented that what people were clamoring to see. That they need to consume her dumb blonde imagery to feel morally superior. People needed these women to be sex icons, the imagined ideal and incredibly hated simultaneously. Blaming them for trying to survive in a broken system doesn’t benefit anyone.

She definitely wasn’t as dumb as she portrayed but she wasn’t exactly Einstein, either! She had and still has a team that deals with her business ventures. Paris, unlike Britney, courted the attention and even orchestrated the drama. And then there are the Gen Zers on TikTok who have pretty much revived every 00s trend which renewed interest in Hilton after Kim Kardashian made her pretty much irrelevant. I enjoyed The Simple Life as a teen but let’s not portray her to be more than who she was!

You said it. She's rebranding. Which is genius, and that's the point. This kind of celebs are marketing geniuses, she's just adapting to the current times. I have sympathy to an extent, as I'm sure she has gone through some shit. But we cannot keep buying stuff from these people. It's not a coincidence that now that the younger generation is hyper woke and very involved with mental health, is the perfect time to put the spotlight on that. Paris was able to capitalize on it, and came out on top. She was in on the joke, but even other celebrities couldn't handle the toxic culture they created. Britney, Lindsay are top examples of how the 2000's wrecked everyone, even other rich and famous people.

I don’t think she failed to move with the times, but that beauty standards shifted. It’s because sex sells and people want to be sexy and lived though people like Paris. Paris had a flat stomach that singers or movie stars aspired to achieve at that time, because low rise jeans and crop tops were made popular from Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. To achieve this look you either had to have unhealthy relationship to food or work out non-stop with a trainer. It was easier just to not eat to maintain the thin figure. Britney also brought back the blonde bombshell look, in which Paris embodied. But styles change through time. I personally feel the raven hair look (such as Megan Fox) with more curves (such as Kim Kardashian) came around to rebel against that beauty standard. Plus, emo punk looks which originally was a subculture that fought against this standard, became more mainstream and helped with that transition. Even Britney Spears herself dyed her hair black to fight her own high standards that she maybe unintentionally created.

Well for one, it's easier to blame a single person than it is for the system *they* created and defend so hard whenever a certain Vermont senator makes noise about what to rewrite it. Another part is that the "wrong" type of person found success throught it. As far as I'm concerned, I don't see a lick of difference between Paris Hilton and Elon Musk, but one won the Capitalism Championship in a more "acceptable" field, so he's allowed to have our praise. Because let's face it, the elephant in the room is "Woman Bad." She had a sex tape, so of course the vast majority of shit people flung at her were gendered insults, "you just slept your way to the top, slut", because again, I guess they like to conveniently forget that Musk and Trump were also little trustfund babies in their own right.
@DreadPages
@DreadPages 3 года назад
Elon started businesses people respect more. Engineering etc. Hilton tended to do more beauty products and entertainment. Those tend to have extremely vocal critics in media. Many from other females too. Sex tapes always get criticism because women tend to attach "role model" to famous women. Which attracts children. And the role young women get put into tends to be resisting sexual urges at a younger age. While young males honing their sexual prowess is acceptable and somehow seen as healthy. You see the imbalance in statutory rape cases of adult males and young females, vs younger males with adult females. If As for trustfund babies. All 3 of them should be applauded. Their parents atleast. Generational wealth should be celebrated. Asians do it all the time. Thats why in the conversation of "systemic racism" in regards to financial classes, asians tend to be excluded. Since dirt poor asian immigrants tend to focus on generational wealth for their kids at a higher rate than other non whites. Even surpassing whites in areas such as home loan approvals and acceptance in prestigious schools.

Imagine the things Paris could have done with her power and fame. Instead, she gave many young girls body issues, because they couldn't live up to that standard. Not to mention how unethical it is to buy a huge house for your dog, while so many people have trouble paying their bills. She works hard? Sure, but so do people who have to take up three jobs just to put food on the table. And yes, some of the criticism was mysoginistic. That's never ok. I don't know if deconstructing and examining what a public figure meant to a certain era can be described as " glorifying ". I don't think this video sets out to redeem Paris Hilton , at the end of it I' m pretty sure people will have the same feelings they had towards her before they watched the video. Those who loved her ( and are not so moved by the real issues you have raised) will still love her and those who hated her still hate her. What I did get from this video was Paris Hilton s part in the general trend towards the Kardashians and then RU-vidrs and influencer culture. I had never thought about it this deeply and for me that was of value. You can even compare some of the problematic aspects of Paris Hilton to the problematic aspects of modern day influencers today like Jeffrey Star and James Charles etc. I think the point of the video is what does it say about modern American culture.

I could feel Taylor wanted to get her truth out and show what she's all about, and all the while fighting for the causes she cares about. With Paris, it felt like she was trying to sell her "authentic self" as best as she could, because she guessed that's what passes nowadays. She included snippets of her real life but it really felt like she was still trying to portray herself in a certain way to stay relevant.

I don't understand why so much time and energy is spent trying to redeem some rich heiress. She decided to demeane her gender by comforting men's perception that beautiful women are necessarily ditsy, vapid, and just a peace of meat. It's just karma. What happened to the concept of taking responsibility for your actions? If a rich African-American willingly incarnated in his 'personalpublic' life the negative stereotypes society has about his community, just for the sake of making more money, he would be shamed for reinforcing harmful prejudice. That's why many women despise her and her offsprings. We shouldn't feel guilty in pointing out how it's counter to all the decades of efforts to bring society to respect women's intelligence.

You can't blame her for the media and their consumers back then - us - being obsessed with her. She attracted light and fame because she was exactly the scandalous female everyone was envious of, decadent and sexualised. Too rich, so rich she'd spend decadent amounts of money on shallow things, but isn't it our problem, not hers, if that's what we like to watch? She was born into wealth and happened to be sexy, but her rise to the sort of fame she got isn't 100% her creation. People helped it, funded it, and then were oh so verbal on how her existence was a shocker! We hate her for being lucky, for being idle, and for liking typically feminine things. If you hate capitalism and women being objectified, it's OK, but do aim your hate at these concepts, not a woman. What an easy target. It's like hating footballers cause they're being paid so much.
