Parisian vs Quebecois: Which French Accent Sounds More Romantic? 

One of my favorite things is when a person from Quebec is speaking French and then all of a sudden they throw in an English word and it sounds like they're American for a second 😂

Wow. To me, Parisian French sounds much more serious, polite (everything enunciated very carefully and consciously), and even a bit formal, that might be why it sounds more romantic and stronger for that purpose. Like wanting to make a strong and clear impression when meeting someone for the first time. Quebec French sounds much warmer, more personal/intimate and friendly/playful to me. So when you already are already close with someone and talk about things much more casually and with depth.

There's a twang in the Quebec accent that doesn't sound fancy and kind of roughens the tone. It pretty much comparable to how English is to the US

Fun fact, I read recently that the Quebec French accent is actually closer to the French of the 18th century than it is with modern French in terms of accent. In particular it is said that 18th century French royalty spoke with an accent similar to the Quebec accent.

I’m partial to the Quebecois accent because I’m Canadian. I think it’s so cute and friendly sounding. I love the bounciness of the prosody. That said, I do think the Parisian accent does sound romantic...perhaps similar to how many English speakers in North America think a British accent sounds more elevated.

I think parisian french is sexier, but that could also be because Bongs voice is deeper.

So hard to decide. France French sounds more formal and beautifully enunciated, but Québécois sounds more friendly and down-to-earth. I think I'd feel the latter was being more honest with me. Maybe I'm biased though as I'm an anglophone Canadian with an Acadian mother (and Acadian French sounds harsher than Québécois)

The Parisian guy just edges it when they speak French, but the Quebec guy beats him when they speak English as he is totally bi-lingual... you wouldn't even guess he was a native French speaker when you hear him speaking English so perfectly! When they sing in French it's a dead heat by the way!! Cool to see such talent and friendship between you guys :)

Portuguese vs Brazilian is a similar competition. The western hemisphere has more twang and some more nasal vowels but also sounds younger, more fun.

definitely Parisian French! other one was also great but honestly it sounds like a French&American English mix so it doesn’t sound romantic at all

For me, both have a good accent, the quebecois sound more fresh, more young, I don´t know, the parisien sounds more french. Both sound romantic even I prefer Big Bong because his voice!

I grew up in an American (Maine) home where Acadian french was spoken by my parents, grandparents and relatives. The nuns taught us formal Parisian French and scolded us when we spoke what we learned at home. As a retiree I am relearning French with Duolingo and watching RU-vid because when the grandparents pass away so does the language. Thank you for the video, you are both fun to listen to, I had a hard time following the speed of your words. C’est la vie! lol 😄

I would say france French sounds very romantic , Quebec French sounds like an American speaking French. Sorry Quebec , France wins the romantic title.

As a Canadian I'm biased, but it'd be really cool to see this with more Canadian dialects, we have Acadian Chiac, and influence in creole as well, could be some cool differences. We learned in school if we spoke "Le Français de Québécois en Paris. . ." that we would get "C'est un canard!" or duck back hahah.

In the USA. we have years of cinema and TV telling us that the Parisian accent is sexy. Most of us have no exposure to the Quebec dialect. Parisians speak in a certain way that we also think of as exuding sophistication which is what Parisians aspire to. Celine Dion on the other hand is purely Quebecoise and even though she is one of the most rich and famous people in North America, she comes across as down to earth in both English and French, which makes people love her (or hate her) but it is very Quebecois. France has a bunch of accents that aren't Parisian, and some of those don't sound quite as sophisticated. Just like Australian compared to standard British English, Quebecois use more diphthongs that to some ears makes it seem 'twangy", but once again this is due to our prejudices. In the end we are all influenced by a lifetime of media and language exposure that leads us to make judgments of a language. (My preference is the Quebec version, because I like the less informal feel that I take from it)

I love the Parisian accent... i don’t like the Québécois accent at all... however, I love Québécois expressions; they are the most unique and original.

Cute video. Parisian French sounds like French to me - probably because in school in the US that's what we learned. Canadian French sounds to me like an English speaker speaking French without a French accent. My vote is for Parisian.

A friend, born and raised in Paris (American mom, French father) is now working in Quebec in sales. He said it took him about 2 months to get to the point where he could understand Canadian French. (He's got it now!) Regarding the competition, I'm a bit prejudice having lived in Paris and Nantes, so I prefer french/French. However, the french of Quebec is closer to "the real french" of the 1700s. You both win! I stumbled upon your video simply because I wanted to hear some Canadian French. (Sorry, but when it comes to music, except for 40s classics and jazz, neither Canadian nor Parisian French is going to cut it with most English speakers.) Thanks for the video, it was fun. (Now there's an American English word for you.)

I think if you both said exactly the same thing then it would be a better comparison--as far as being able to hear the difference between accents.

Québécois, to me, sounds more relaxed and very much like the Cajun that I hear more often. Parisian French sounds more refined - as if something is held back. As for romance? I think it has more to do with the personality of the person.

I feel like Parisian French flows a lot more, but I can actually hear where words start and end in Quebecois french.

I think Quebec French sounds like the American Southern twang accent and the Parisian can be compared to a smooth Bostonian accent. Which is more romantic? Parisian without a doubt, but my dad and his whole family were from Quebec, so I love the down home sound of Quebecois.

As a little girl, my family would travel from the US to family in Quebec every summer. I loved my aunt's, uncle's & cousin's accents. my parents who were native French speakers would always say in a diplomatic way that Quebecois was "different" 🤣😄

Often we Quebecers find the French accent almost effeminate while our accents sound to us like that of construction workers on the sledge hammer. So we would even think ourselves than French people sound more sexy or romantic unless your idea of sexy is a guy like the strongman Jean-Francois Caron covered in tatoos.

When it comes to presentation, Miguel puts in extra effort: he does a magic trick, brings his guitar, was wearing a jacket (Big Bong even felt pressured to put one on!), and his English accent is flawless.

I definitely like French better. It’s so classy and romantic. Maybe because I am Belgian and speak French almost like French people. ❤️

Anglophone Montrealer here. It's interesting that many Commenters say Québec French sounds more American! Having heard Québecois all my life, I don't hear it that way; but I can sort of understand why _they_ do: 1) The diphthongs: Many Québecois vowels bend (morph) from one to another - like many American ones do.Whereas Euro French vowels are simple and short. And 2) The Québec 'i' sound has drifted to a more relaxed, English-sounding vowel. In France, a word for swimming pool, piscine, is pronounced roughly 'PeeSeen'. In Québec, more like 'PissIn'.

It feels obvious in hindsight but it's really interesting how hearing that accent as an english speaker makes me feel like the Canadian french and Parisian french sounds like the same sort of difference between english and American. Good example of what I'm talking about here is in the UK, we don't really goose front at all. Only accent I think that has any goose fronting in the isles is west country, which is a very old and traditional accent that shares modern ancestry with the American accent. I could hear Miguel goose fronting in some of the phrases he said and I just find it so interesting how there are differences that exist between english and American that also exist in Parisian to Quebecois.

Quebecois sounds like a person from New York is speaking *fluently* in french. Even though it is a romance language, it sounds germanic, very close to North American English. I studied french a bit and my professeur was from Strasbourg; I could not understand most of the Quebecois without cc. :/ So my vote is for francais.

I am québécois who lived six years in France so I think I have pretty good understanding of the differences. French VS québécois? I believe the difference between the two is like American and Canadian English VS British English. The French and British accents are similar in their tone, going from high to low while the québécois and the American/Canadian accents are more flat. If only listening at the tone without the words, the French and British accents are very similar while the québécois and American accents sound similar to each other. The same applies differences in vocabulary. Americans will say « an elevator », « a trunk » etc. While the British will say «a lift », « a boot » etc. The same differences is found in some words used in France VS Quebec. PS BigBong…..based on this video, you're much when singing an Eric Lapointe song than a Johnny Hallyday song…….you are adapting so well to the Quebec culture!

Parisian French is definitely more romantic and sexier sounding to me. It's smoother and has a nicer flow. For me, Québecois French sounds like the equivalent to an American with a southern drawl so deep you wonder if they're even speaking English - LOL. But there are many who find that sexy. We all have our own taste and ultimately, no one's taste is better, just different.

So this definitely makes me think of how we (The US) took English and made it our own. Quebec’s French definitely has a more twang and roughness to it, but it’s still charming. And French from France definitely sounds more sultry and fancy. Truly I love both, but I lean heavily more towards Quebecs French really.

Merci beaucoup pour faire ca. I learned my French at the age of 16 and 17 at the Alliance Francaise a Panama. So I am biased to the Parisian French. I think it has a lot to do with it, with a decision, because in school they do not teach Canadian French. They teach Parisian French. That is the only kind of French they teach at school, so the Canadian is at a disadvantage. Having said that, I have not heard much Canadian French. I have noticed that in Canada the French word (main=hand) or anything that ends in that ending sounds like the word said in English meaning leading. I wonder why. Also other words are said with an accent that would definitely be attributed to English. I can imagine that the reason for that is that in Canada language is bilingual French-English. The pace at which the Parisian French is spoken is too fast for me. I prefer the pace of the Canadian. But each has its merits. They both sound romantic to a westerner.

Im from Montreal I find this so funny lol. They are both romantic because of the way they talked lol , I mean this dude is a magician . I think it really depend how you speak, the tone, the gestures. Parisian is less loud so it's easier on my ears but Quebecois is jolly and humorous.

I’m a Canadian whose only experience living in a Francophone environment was in France, so I’m biased in both directions! When I hear France French accents, I think of the culture: taking the time to appreciate every moment, quality, attention to detail, sophistication, simple pleasures. When I hear Québécois accents, I think of fun, adventure, casual conversations, and easy friendships. So if you’re in it for the long haul, I think you’d find the French accent more appealing, but if you’re in it for a good time, you may find the Canadian accent harder to resist.

As a french person I find the quebec accent to be really bouncy and "intimate", but the parisian accent is the one i obviously find more natural and elevated (for some reason it feels like it goes quicker). For me it's the opposite of for english/american people that feel like quebec accent is more natural and less pronouciated (probably because the quebec accent is much closer to english as it was quebec and america were a lot closer geographically)

It's so weird Learning french as a student in Canada, I've adopted the French (France) accent the entire time, but as soon as I got into university I realized that my classmates were speaking with this weird twang that I had never really heard before--- and I realized that it was a Quebec accent. So now I've gotta work on making my french accent sound more Quebecois xDDD I've noticed a big difference particularly with the suffix -eux and -eur between the two accents.

I’m a west coast Canadian where English is the primarily spoken. The French accent is definitely more smooth, demure and mysterious; while the Québécois accent sounds crass & forthcoming. For romance, i choose French, for debate, i choose Québéc French.

Le français québécois sonne plus comme un bon jack avec qui t'irais prendre une bière et rire jusqu'aux petites heures du matin, alors que le français de France sonne plus professionnel, raffiné, élégant. Ce sont peut-être des stéréotypes mais je crois que c'est ce qui se dégage de chacune des langues même chez ceux qui ne les ont jamais entendus auparavant.
