(Part: 3/3) Strengthening & Enhancing the appearance of a Zenoah G270RC Cylinder

What I prefer to do after spending a few hours modifying a cylinder is to strengthen certain parts where the walls may be a lot thinner with JB-Weld epoxy, due to extensive porting. This in turn will increase the reliability, by preventing it from cracking...Zenoah cylinders are not known to crack as easily, but it's worth the effort anyway!
Also, when painting a cylinder it's best to use a small paint gun, so that you can airbrush on a super thin coating that wont affect the cooling properties.

7:51 The reason I'm spraying the paint into a spray gun is that the paint comes out of the rattle can way too heavy and you end up with paint pooling up & dripping in one area, while the other hard to get to spots only have a light dusting of paint. The spray gun allows you to adjust the flow of the paint/air. I use a higher velocity of air with less paint and that allows all the easy and tight spots to be coated evenly.

love the video but you can buy caliper paint by the qt at autozone then you can just dump it in the gun and even add a reducer if so desired.

Painted cylinders and heads look cool, but I leave mine bare for better cooling. When possible, I'll bead blast them to increase the surface area. That might not sound like much, but it really does help in keeping my engines running cooler.

I have a couple of personal engines built for my upcoming projects, but you can already get a lot of fancy bolt-on engine parts or components (GZR billet cases, stroker crank, billet fan cover, ESP ported cylinder etc.) I'm not sure if I'd have the time to build something personal for anyone though.

Very hot piston with such little ring contact, what piston clearance is run?

The squish clearance? .020"-.025" Mine is set around .024"

@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 5 лет назад
These pistons have a slight taper towards the top, the lower part of the piston is usually fine. A very common piston mod on these is to reduce the diameter by .004"-.008" up near the ring. Also, the ring gaps on these are commonly set at .011"

Nice work! I do a lot of spray painting myself, why not just paint straight from the can?
@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 5 лет назад
The paint comes out of the can far too heavy, all the main open areas of the cylinder will already be dripping, while other areas are barely coated. The spray gun allows more velocity with less paint and gets into the hard to get to places....giving you an evenly coated surface.

This sixth port mod has peeled chrome written all over it. How long does a modded cylinder last?
@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 5 лет назад
These Zenoah cylinders are nikasil, and is not at all an issue with the plating chipping off. Also, stuffing the intake port for a crankcase reed is a widely common procedure on these and has been done quite a few thousand times.
@realblakrawb

@TheNoisePolluter

It's polished pretty well...And the cylinder is not over ported, Instead it's just the standard porting everyone does to these crankcase reed valve conversions. If want to see what an over ported cylinder looks like just Google: Zenoah ported cylinder.

So wtf was the point in spraying spray paint into a spray gun?
@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 5 лет назад
Comes out of the can way too heavy and then drips in one area while another area is barely covered. Spray gun allows more air flow velocity with less paint, allowing an even coat.
@lucasalati2492

Don't think it can run. And probably that's why there's no a video.

It's going to run, this is a standard modification for crankcase reeds. I'm waiting on a custom longrod crank.
@TheSunnyTrails
@TheSunnyTrails 5 лет назад
Why didnt you just use the rattle can? If you use proper technique it will come out as good id not better than a spray gun
@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 5 лет назад
The paint comes out way too heavy from the can, you end up with dripping paint in all the broad areas and the hard to get to spots are barely covered. Spray allows for more air velocity with less paint and gives you a consistent coat.

just my 2 cents EPOXY does not like extreme heat.
@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 3 года назад
Yes true, but these small engine don't generate the heat and the intake port sits below the piston when at Bottom Dead Center and is not a problem. This whole process is the standard procedure when converting over to a crankcase intake reed valve. There some 5-6,000 billet reed crankcases and an estimated 15K-20K cylinders that have been JBWeld'd. I'm the first to make a video on how that process is done.

Dunno why people put vids up of mods but don't show it running ,it's what most tuners do as it's like " look at what I built ,listen to it ,watch the power as it's run " epoxy isn't used by top tuners as it degrades with heat and fuel contamination, how many degrees is inside the cylinder when it's running ? Epoxy goes upto what heat ? Only thing that's going to happen is epoxy will deteriorate and jam the piston causing it to probably rip the piston apart if it was tanked out at the time ,prove me wrong but if you got a video with it ticking over for 5 mins and it survives I'll take back what I said ,I already now it will fail
@TheNoisePolluter
@TheNoisePolluter 4 года назад
In the small engine hobby world, these billet reed conversion crankcases that require a DIY epoxy cylinders is a standard practice and is very reliable. The heat generated in these small engines have no affect on the Epoxy, mostly because the epoxy sits below the piston even at Bottom-Dead-Center. The reason I don't have the engine together & running is that I've been holding out on getting a special longrod crank built, I tend to get meticulous and stubborn about having to go with 2nd choices...and trust me, if this epoxy mod was faulty I wouldn't waste my time and money.
@pauldean8638
@pauldean8638 4 года назад
@@TheNoisePolluter honest buddy I know cause I done it , I experimented and it just fails . The piece you've got on the old exhaust port can't stand direct heat as it just disintegrates, these motors run just as hot as any 2 stroke .the only way is to get another cylinder and cut a piece out ,and put a chamfer on it so when cylinders hot and piece cold it will go in .when running being the materials the same so will expand the same .turn some billet to fill the hole upto your cap on the outside . being I don't know where your ring gap is cause you changed it about with mix of cylinder and crank case you goto get it flush so your not snagging the ring . Even the best of epoxy we used to quick fabrication inlet manifold to check other carbs out but run more than 2-3 mins and it just crumble . They a champ tuner by me and he's getting 12-15 bhp from 29cc and he doesn't use epoxy either ,but am sure out of curiosity he will of tried as if you see the tuning he does he tunes to the maximum it can be ,the same guy tunes race tiger kings motors for tigerking.hes a multiple world champ so he knows what's what . You wanna have a look at his tuning as it helps no end as he breaks it all down ,dave marl PWC, in Google and click PWC site it's under tuning guide ,believe me you'll thank me for that once you see his site
