@@MindsetMastery75 an artist prominent in the 70s would probably have been at least 25 at that time, so that would be 74 right now, average lifespan is around 72, and they could well have been older, coupled with no one having been in the house for quite some time (evident from the mess) along with mention in the previous video of family having said they didn't think much pottery was in the house because they got it all that would strongly suggest the previous owner is in fact dead, or living in a retirement home.

That is how they choose to live. They live right inside all of that mess. I have actually seen hoarders even worse than her that actually barely have room enough to lay down because there was so much junk in their house but they still manage to do it. I am positive when she lived there, she slept right there amongst all that junk she loved! But you are probably right about her being dead. I kinda thought she was dead also. Just wondering if anyone knew for sure?

@@MindsetMastery75 Whether deceased or in a care home, the family would want the photos. I have since learned through watching the other videos. That the youtuber does give the photos to the family. Also that she is still alive and pretty well. You should watch the other videos.

@@dffndjdjd depends on the scale of the productions, but some prop companies actually will purchase old wrapping paper instead of ordering reproductions. Mostly because it does end up being cheaper to do so.

@Max Payne hoarding is a fairly common symptom of mental illness specifically anxiety. You could learn some compassion and tact. But also i have hoarding tendencies so im sure you mean no harm and im just sensitive to the topic

Just the maps alone would be worth a tidy sum. People love to use them in Junk Journals, along with scrapbookers.

I especially love vintage magazines to cut images and figures out and jumble them together into a collage.

Typical of the Depression generation. They reused everything. My grandmother used to cut the elastic out of Grandpa's underwear to reuse as giant rubber bands for holding boxes closed.

I loved the milk carton packaging also.

@@CuriosityIncorporated yes it was. It made it much easier on my aunt when she went to clean out and sell the house last spring. My grandma is still alive and doing well for 92, she just has dementia. Fortunately my mom is able to care for her so she doesn't have to go to a nursing home.

When stripping antiques if there is a darker green layer under your layers that is a sign of lead or asbestos. Can't remember for sure but you should never be stripping stuff like that w/o a respirator or outside.

The "clown box" looked like it was fabric, and possibly patterns, to make clown dolls or puppets. You tossed the rubber or plastic clown doll head back into the box.

I love genealogy, but I think it might be dangerous to go through those papers with the mouse droppings, dust and everything.

We have a Research Center locally that clips obituaries daily and files them You’re right. They are invaluable in genealogy. We get hundreds of people fro all over the country looking for much of the information we actively store.

Serenitykitten as the granddaughter of hoarders, you need to go through EVERYTHING. We always found money stuffed in books and magazines when we had to clear out hoarded homes.

I'm a child of hoarders and you are right. They put $ in places we would never think too. Wrapped in foil then in a Rubbermaid container in the freezer and cupboards in food containers. You think it's just a coffee container but there might be $2000 stashed in it. Coin collection in the unused dishwasher. Hidden in walls attached to a piece of string so you just saw the string and had to pull it out. Under carpet, floors.....My parents were nuts about hiding bundles around the house.

@@TheFantony my parents weren't as old as her and mom had forgotten some of their hiding places. (Dad passed suddenly and had hid most of the money. He didn't want the government to know how much money he saved. ) We (their kids ) did our best to find it all before the house was tore down but are still unsure if we found it all. With that said not all hoarders hide money or valuables. Some just keep all the junk until They are "buried " in because they cannot part with it much it like this house was.

Omg. Yes. My mother was at the Frankfurt Germany flea market. She checked linings of purses and found a very rare coin from the 1500s and gave it to me. I collected coins and stamps as a child. Unfortunately my collections were stolen from me when our house was robbed.

exactly. stuff back then did not have built in antennas so it probably got disconnected. collectors love vintage electronics. even if it did not work restorers will buy them, fix them up and sell them. do not throw them away!

It's hard to get rid of things when they still seem to have value to you...as a recovering hoarder, I've found it helpful in some cases to think, "Is there someone who could make better use of this than I do? This toy wants to be played with...these clothes want to be worn!" That way I feel less like I made a mistake keeping something, and more like I'm ready to send it along to someone who needs it more than I do (by donating it to the thrift store, etc.)

@@barbaradace7952 I have hoarding tendencies, particularly with books (I have 2600! all catalogued), and I absolutely HATE to see people just donate boxes and boxes of books to Goodwill, knowing they'll throw most of them out. (A lot of the books I know of that are super rare and highly desired among my church members, for instance would be looked at by the average person and thought of as old and undesired from the cover and condition.) So I'm often taking books people give me and sorting through them - but I have also found it helpful to think "I don't want this book myself, but I know it's going to be valuable to someone" and then work to find that someone. Other than the super outdated useless ones like travel guides from the 70s and old geography sets from the 60s (most of which I send to be recycled), I'll put books in the little free library boxes around town, donate books to my church, and even sell high-quality and rarer old ones on eBay. It's very satisfying to see a book go out knowing that someone else will appreciate it and it won't be thrown away. I would have a hard time sorting through a house like that, though - I'd be wanting to make use of a lot more than he did, I think! (even if I'd be freecycling the vast majority of it)

@@ButterCupMMXXIII It would be nice to think that. The bullet hole (if it is one) went straight through. The way the bottle is curved (to fit the hip) I would say no. Unless he had something behind it, unlikely as they were designed to fit snugly against the body to prevent excessive noise.

My father in law brought home a giant nazi flag from Ww2 that he took away from a soldier. No one interested in purchasing this flag though. also people inherited their family home and didn't move around much. if i had property in my early years I would have become a hoarder too, but i had to keep moving house and now i know myself better than to fall into that trap

Did it as a kid as a family project on an abandoned house. They weren't even that much of hoarders but it is amazing how much stuff there was to move.

Although it wasn't much, I have helped too. It was hard seeing all of the stuff that was amassed.

Ah definitely. I helped my brother once he bought one and cleaned it out, it was insane. The craziest thing we found were the bones of a dead dog under one of the apple trees in the yard... but damn was it satisfying cleaning the walls and actually seeing what colour they once were.
