These stories are the proof of how hard the road was for Hip Hop music to become what we know and love. For all of you young people out there, do not underestimate your worth and do not sell out our culture. ALSO: DO NOT LET THESE NON-BLACK RAPPERS RUIN OUR MUSIC. THEY ARE NOT HIP HOP MCs, THEY ARE RAPPERS. We LIVE the culture and Hip Hop is our birthright, they are not of our culture and only seek monetary gains from it by emulating US.
@melundank1039
@melundank1039 5 лет назад
hip hop is something you live not what color your skin is...you sounding like a black trump race hatin..
@Mr.Taylor56
@Mr.Taylor56 5 лет назад
melun dank...Hip Hop comes from Black people of a certain place and time. Others can feel it through that time's music and see images of that time period but cannot live or duplicate it. Everything and everyone is not Hip Hop just because someone came up with a clever saying.
@melundank1039
@melundank1039 5 лет назад
many "non-black" people where there in the beginning helping birth the culture....you do not decide who and what is hip hop because you are black...like it or not
@Mr.Taylor56
@Mr.Taylor56 5 лет назад
I don't know where you're from or where you get your information from but you're WRONG. Are you from The Bronx? Soundview in particular? The only non-Blacks who were there was Puerto Ricans. And they were spectators for the most part. Whites CERTAINLY were not part of the culture. When the jams were going on the projects, the Whites still remaining in the area stayed away because of the sheer numbers of Blacks gathered and it wasn't their kind of music being played. In the early 70s, young Blacks and Whites didn't get along in Soundview because of racism. The Black Spades, originating in Bronxdale Projects(Soundview), fought against racist Whites and won. That gave Hip Hop the space it needed to begin outside in the parks of the area. Eventually, P.R.s got down becoming DJs, learning to dance to the breaks, getting heavy into graffiti and lastly rocking the mic. So, there is truth to non-Black people being there, however, they were a non-factor in creating it. They were just literally there...somewhere watching.
@melundank1039
@melundank1039 5 лет назад
i agree with your history lesson 110%.....so that means every "non black" for the rest of hip hop history no matter what they contribute to the culture is just a vulture not really hip hop and just trying to get paid...right?

Miami was the port or entrance location, then it was distributed to the main "problem" locations. Those areas were Miami, New York, Chicago, and L.A(Watts). Ironically these were the places of possible rebellions or Uprisings with organizations that included N.O.I, Black Panthers Etc. We're talking about an epidemic not Caucasian hippie recreational use, I'm talking about chemical Warfare on a people.

What fly Ty is saying about cocaine is 100%. Dudes in the hood did coke and the chicks wanted to be around the dudes who had it and did it. That's why that generation is so fucked up right now and look so bad. Also why so many of those rappers back then couldnt finese their talent and get more money.
@newclothes8165
@newclothes8165 4 года назад
He aint eva lied about hip hop being supplemental income. I was a young one during this time but i remember the early days many rappers were enrolled in school cause rap then wasnt a money maker. Kool moe dee has a degree and DMC says he attended St. Johns in "sucker MC's". People who wanted to rap were always told to have a back up plan. Its so surreal because looking at the music today. Its amazing that people thought rap was a fad and wasnt gonna last.

Fly Ty.... Monica Lynch...they went toe to toe with the Def Jam / Lyor Cohen era. There is also something else happening during these times... freestyle music/dance music was also at the peak and that was also major independent movement because the majority of artists that were coming up were Latin, I great majority Puerto Ricans ...aka..Noel, Nayobe, TKA, India, George Lamond, CoverGirls, Sa-Fire...etc. These artists would play on the same bill with the Hip Hop community and they also had to resort with the independents, radio play etc. From this era you had Cold Chillin...on the flip you had Cutting Records, Mic Mac, Warlock, Fresh Records and Sleeping Bag with Mantronic producing for both Hip Hop and Freestyle (Joyce Simms). I hope you can do a segment focusing on this era because they went hand in hand. The Roseland, Silver Shadow, Funhouse, Latin Quarters, Devil's Nest, The Tunnel. Sal Albatiello should be your next interview. Love your content.
