I had a partial knee in 1992 at VA HOSPITAL PALO ALTO. I ran a mile at thirty days and will be 71 soon and still using the same knee and riding my Harley. Richard

Fantastic video, dealing with all relevant facts regarding partial knee replacement. I had my done on NHS 4 days ago after waiting 18 months (discounting 2 years of covid, when i could not even join the queue). I am 65 years old, BMI of 28, mostly because i could barely walk and drunk too much beer and wine to forget my problem. I am amazed by the results. Out of hospital next day, although i was good to go same day. I only take one crutch to go down the steps in the house as an insurance really. I could do five 10 minutes walks on 2nd day post surgery. On 4th day i had done one 30 min walk, going on another one soon and doing 3rd one in the evening. I can stretch my leg completely flat and bend it to 100 deg with 80 deg without even thinking about it. So my range of craft beer bars i can get to in London grows every day 😊 Lets hope my progress continues so i can get full knee replacement of my other leg. My surgery was robotically assisted but i have no idea what system was used. I wish everyone on here speedy and full recovery. And don't play tennis on hard courts and ski hard moguls if you are oldish and overweight. That is how i ended up on operating table.

Hi folks- I am really late to this party ... :-) I have enjoyed the personable commentary and Q&A provided by your orthopaedic surgeons in a few videos now - Thank you! My name is Wayne - I am a 68 year old male living in Perth, Western Australia (shout out to Dr Michael Wind). I had a motor vehicle crash 46 years ago that ended with multiple surgeries on both knees including a bilateral patellectomy. In 2003 a subsequent major tear of left quads muscle group and torn (off) medial chondral flap. Osteo arthritis has caught up with me. My left knee is quite problematic. My right knee is holding up but i don't want it to be over burdened by the suregery or rehab on my left knee. I try to cycle 30+ minutes each day - just cycling with no resistance. I am down to a 34.8 BMI, and I am presuming from this informative video that I might not be a candidate for a partial knee arthroplasty, but rather a TKA? I would appreciate your thoughts. I am back to see my orthopaedic surgeon at the end of this week - I think for confirmation of surgery proceeding and consent etc to be authorised. So many questions ... I have great confidence that the surgeon I am heading to is at the top of his game, but this is a nerve wracking time. Thanks again - cheers!

Also, what is the added degree of surgical difficulty and patient recovery please to do a partial or full knee replacement given the knee history and no patellae?

Thanks for the informative video! What is your opinion on robotic assist in partial knee replacements? Is there a stronger argument for robotic assistance for partial knee replacements than for full knee replacements?

My TKR got delayed due to some problems with my bloodwork. I’m thinking I will be more prepared due to this & a few other videos I have watched. I’m going to go ahead and do the exercises, as my range of motion isn’t very good right now. I’ve been doing strengthening, but not much stretching. I’m sure I don’t know just what I need to do, but I don’t have any guidance as to exactly what TO do.

Dr. Robertson, I had my TKR July 2021. I am almost 79 yrs old, small frame East Indian.I went to India after 14 months having TKR and still i had pain in my leg and feet. Sadly I have sciatic nerve problem and 16 yrs ago I had L-4 and L-5 , spinal stenosis and they infused. After my my TKR the heel of surgical knee went numb. Recently I had Electromyography done and during surgery my L-5 sifted. I am surprised as I had it infused. I am seeing my Orthopedic surgeon in two months for 2nd right knee to be operated. In X-rays it showed I am bone on bone. Now I am concerned about sciatic nerve and also it took me a while to gain 120 reflexion. I am in deep tissue massage therapy every15 days to relieve some back pain. My right knee does not have that much pain, but it pains when I walk or climb the stairs only inner side of the knee not so much outer side the knee. Considering my age is it Ok to go for partial knee replacement? I am following you and will watch for opinion. Thank you doctor.

Question to the surgeon, I had left partial knee replacement on 08/17/2023 and I still have moderate pain around patella. How long do you anticipate me to have pain, or do I have to wait six months plus until I get pain free? Your response will be appreciated. Kenneth Wooh

Hi , Great video ! Do you think I can get a partial knee replacement weighing 244lbs with an ACL tear , complex meniscus tear and degenerative arthritis in the medial femora-tibial and patella femoral joint compartments with associated joint space narrowing and subarticular edema at medial portion of tibial plateau. Early degenerative change at the lateral femora -tibial joint compartment ?

Although I’ve been walking around on my screwed up knee for 47 years the problem was created when they removed my meniscus. Can I send you the X-rays they did yesterday to determine full or partial?

I had a total done on my right knee 8 months ago. The medial and middle compartments were 99% worn down and the lateral still had a good amount of cartilage. BUT, the kneecap was worn down and the entire knee riddled with bone spurs all over the ends of the femur and tibia. Would a partial have done me any good if they just operated on the medial part? Reason I’m asking is because the left knee is the same and I plan to get it done in 3-4 months from now. I didn’t suffer much, but still…

Thank you so much. I half half a knee bone on bone. Injections were working for years, but not the last time. However i am 15 pounds heavier this time. Seems like when i had the 15 pounds off i didn't have much of a problem with that knee. I used to jog and would like to get back to that. If i were thinner and didn't have a partial knee replacement, I still couldn't run on it?

I’ min a similar situation and am considering the PKR. I’m a runner and have exhausted all injections (pCR, Stem cells, gels, cortisone) and am meeting my 5th Ortho doctor for yet another opinion. Wishing you the best of luck. I still plan to run after PKR if I have it done.

I just had surgery to repair a torn meniscus. After the surgery, the doctor said that I have arthritis developing under my patella and in the medial compartment where the meniscus tear was. He said that my ACL and lateral compartment looks great. He said I may need a total knee replacement within 10 years, and didn't say anything about a partial being an option. But from this video, it sounds like a partial may be an option for me... or two partials (one for the patella and another for the medial).

I am a lay person with knee pains and have an appointment with my orthopaedic doctor next week. Somehow I tend to conceptualise a partial though seems simpler in theory is actually a more intricate procedure requiring much more skills. Thus most doctors advise a total.
