Now is a good time for a couple of fun, non-spoiler facts from bonus chapters of the manga. One of the first people Tonshiro met when he arrived on this island is Laois. Laois kept mishearing his name as "Shuro" and kept introducing him to everyone by this name. Thus the name stuck. Maizuru, who basically raised Toshiro, is also his father's mistress. Toshiro was very upset when he found that out, as you may imagine. Btw, his mother is alive, well and also aware of her husband's mistress. It's safe to say that his home life was very intense
