my god, what memories ... 66 years young, and I can remember going thru my grandparents old junk they had stuffed away in their garage one day and ran across this record ... I brought it to my grandmother and asked her if I could play it ... she of course said yes and when my grandfather heard it, he jumped up, grabbed my grandmother and they started dancing like there was no tomorrow. She just kept laughing as he sang along to the song ... never saw them any happier than at that moment.
My sisters and I in the back seat of the family car, being driven around eastern Ohio, listening to AM radio (no FM back then) to "The Freckles Song", "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window" and "Too Fat Polka"...
My Dad passed away May 1st 2011... He use to sing this sing all the time when he was in the hospital for 3 months. Makes me smile. Navy man my Dad was! Good looking Sailor!
My grandfather sang this too but he changed the words she’s got a freckle on her but she’s pretty he also was a navy man quite the character he’s been gone a long time but I still remember this song like yesterday
I think we all have similar stories. My Mom used to sing this, the first line is all she could remember. In 51 years, this is the first time I've heard the original song. :-)
The older generations of my family would go around singing, "She's got freckles on her butt, but she's purty". They just did it to get us kids to giggle.
@@barrycrawford1133 I guess it was just old Southern folks and their sense of humor. Might be the way the first Southerner that heard it, sang it back to those that hadn't heard it yet with his own interpretation. Nah, my family was witty and funny, it had to be the old folks.
Yes! My mom sang it to me all the time because I had so many freckles! But she would say, "you've got freckles on your butt you're pretty!" And it was a different tune. Where did that come from? We're back east peps.
Boy do I remember it----as a kid we thought this was really x-rated. We would sneak it out and put on the rec. player when the folks went out and we had the house to ourselves. My girlfriends and I would have sleep over and listen until we almost wore it out."Roll me over in the clover" was our favorite.
Aw! My grandmother used to sing this to my siblings and I. My brother once got in trouble for writing "She has freckles on her but, she is nice" in first grade, and my mom had to explain to the teacher that it came from our grandmother. Memories!
i first heard this on the dr demento show. there are some others that i would love to find on here but no one has them. looks like i'm gonna have to hunt them down elsewhere and upload them myself lol
I have this with the roll me over song, but no way to convert it off the 78. Have you heard the cigarette song/ "Grabb'n someone's butt"? "He likes them round, he likes them nice, he's been slapped once or twice."
There's a more recent version (probably from the 1990's) of this song done with just a piano accompanyment...anyone have any idea who does that version??
lol my grandpa used to sing this song all the time so my brothers and my friend who was there at the time always would change the words to my name kayla's got freckles on her butt she is pretty.....u used to b offended but i guess it means im pretty..lol
