Formed by bassist Louis Johnson, of "The Brothers Johnson, Passage was Louis' solo project showing the world his love for Jesus Christ and Gospel Music.
Joined by his wife Valerie Johnson and former Brothers Johnson percussionist/singer, Richard Heath, the album brings a "funk & R&B" sound to the young Contempory Christian Music scene.

@@thatoneguysacc lots of current music in many genres, pop and r n b mostly, and other styles is way too processed, digitized, computer generated, auto tuned. 80s 90s and even early 2000s music had more character in many ways including lyrics, sound quality, and a reliance on talented studio musicians playing actual instruments. When synths were used they were a piece of actual gear that often had sound designers programming sounds/patches and playing them in stead of overly automated music. I'm sure they used digital workstations, protools etc in later years. But it just sounded better.

The current CCM radio stations need to dust these classics off once in awhile and play them. Such good music...I'm also a fan of Earth Wind and Fire so this is right up my alley!

Actually that is Larry Graham and will always be, but Louis contributed heavily to the technique.

Passage was one of the groups that had the most influence on me as a young kid starting to commit to my Christianity. I didn't know about the Brother's Johnson part until years later... I love this album!!

These album is one of the soundtracks of my youth!! My sister and I would play this album over and over again. I would stare at the album and listen to the words as a young child anticipating what heaven would be like. Classic and timeless because it’s straight word of God. I love this track ! Larry Graham introduced slap bass to the world but Thunder thumbs took it down his own road and led us on a journey of get the funk out ma face bass. Yes Graham is the father of slap, but us bass players appreciate what Louis did with it too. RiP my brotha

''Only what you do for Christ will last".. I was a Christian D.J. @ KCFO FM in Tulsa Ok. in the early Eighties and I played this L.P. a lot... it's the Word in the music that give's it it's timeless appeal.. The "Holy Rollers" wasn't ready for it them, but I would be happy to go back to that now,,, Christian artist aren't putting out much at all today that even sounds like Gospel..like Andrea Crouch used to say "Take me Back Lord where I first Received you"... Amen!

+Jeromegrant Johns Nice to meet you Jerome. Grew up in Tulsa. Listening to KCFO probably helped plant the seed to my eventually becoming saved. I was religious, but we all know there's no substitute for being born again. I still have cassettes I made from the KCFO broadcasts. This was one of my favorite songs. I wish there were more stations like that these days. God bless you.

I got the album back in '82 and bought download-stream of it a couple of years ago. This was always one of those jams that put a smile on my face. Too bad it went below the radar of the gospel stations. It and YOU ARE THE ONE by Kool & The Gang woould've been a mega hit.

Glad you found it! This was one of my favorite albums when I was in High School. I still have it on vinyl and play it quite a bit today! Hope you find some other music on my channel you make like. Try Sweet Comfort Band or Bryan Duncan for some really good jazz-gospel music!

Wow.... this song was so influential in my life back in the day.... I was a DJ for a Christian Radio Station in Albuquerque NM called KLYT 88fm...and we played Passage all the time... so awesome!!!!!!!

This gospel song slid nicely onto our house party dancefloor somewhere in between Brothers Johnson's 'Celebrations' and Chic Organization's 'Le.Freak' without a break in early 1980's stride .or.stroke..Thankfully, it remains undiminished with the 'Passage' of time..
