Starting position: 1. medium height 2. feet shoulder width 3. feet staggered 4. shoulder forward hand motion: 1. knee 2. waist 3. sternum - most of the power control should come from your arm - lock your elbow out to make a flat platform thank you Coach Donny!
Yes XD I get really excited for spikes in volley ball too xD Like in volleyball we are practicing spikes. I get really happy and my classmate who is in my volleyball team has to calm me down. And yes, haikyu is the best 👌
I am really impressed with your breakdowns! As a coach of high school, club, and developmental teams these have really helped me explain what our end goals should be with each skill.
@@olivercole2545 then train more to get better! Volleyball is about training until you can do it right even if it takes a lot of time things dont just become easy with some months practising. National volleyball player train years to become so good and if you expected it to be like haikyuu no it aint always like that and even they have trained years so get it done and become better!
@@aran.m977 yea that is a very good point, something that I have to do more of. I practice nearly dayly and to be honest it really does make you feel like the characters but still the emptiness is there
I've been playing v-ball for a while, but I recently haven't been to good with my ball control. Always good to start at the basics every once and a while!
Back here for the same reason. After twenty-odd years, we can get a little lazy or an injury can put us off our game. Good to figure out what's gone wrong!
I really only practiced with my friends I'm very old to start getting into volleyball but I thinks it's one of the things I'm most passionate about so imma try my best to get better Plus I'm short so it's kind of a tricky start
ynnaej sdap Are you just passing to yourself? Or is someone hitting or throwing it up for you. These factors could vary in your training and effect the outcome.
@@inaki7233 nice but in volleyball although I am 6ft2 I find it hard to move around so that's why I am a blocker my other team mates are taller than me so it's kinda embarrassing being short. 😥
Just started wanting to learn to play a couple weeks ago, only have a short wall in my basement to practice with so have been working on receives and attack swings. Feel like this vid just unlocked a new part of my brain, thanks coach 👍
thank you so much Couch for all your explanations, I'm really into the volleyball right now , and I just want to improve my skills , I've learning a lot watching your videos and I just hope to become a great player , one that I can feel proud of Thank you Regards from Colombia 😊😊😀
I’ve been playing volleyball for my high school for 3 years and I STILL suck at passing (and everything in general). This senior year is my year I’m gonna train hard this summer‼️🤘
I used to be able to pass the ball quite well before, but since the start of May, I have gotten bad at it; my coach kept telling me my stance is wrong, mainly, the shoulder part. This will surely help me improve again! Thank you! edit: I tend to place my other thumb at the top of the latter thumb as well, thank you once again!
i saved all ur videos coach donny cause i apply it to all my players to and at the same time i learn more from you . thank you coach donny. God bless u always
In our training everyone keeps saying that we have to use our legs (do the forward motion out of a deeper squat) so that we don’t swing our arms too much and have better control over the ball. What do you think? Thank you and your videos are awesome!!
I think it's mainly because your classmate's skills at setting are low so you have a higher chance of winning by just throwing the ball on the other side of the net rather than keeping the hot potato on your side where some of your teammates may drop it. At least it's similar in my class where keeping the ball is like keeping a grenade you want to throw it at your enemy at all costs because if not you lose. That's why we are taught to use our hips to give more strength into the receiving so it will naturally fly on the other side of the net after the enemy serve.
this video is so helpful! i recently started getting into volleyball and i have tryouts in a few months! this has helped me practice soooo much better!
I normal bump (what we call pass where I go to school) by clasping my hands together (finger intertwined) with my thumbs one on top of the other the ball normally goes straight up and even behind me. Tried this out with a bouncey ball in my room instead of a volleyball (for obvious reasons) and it really works! The form is really uncomfortable because my chest gets in the way of me locking my arms together but I'm going to try and work with it and I'm going to try it with a real volleyball when I get the chance. Thanks for the great video ☺️
Thanks to haikyuu, I'm going to join the volleyball club at school next year! And this year, I'm gonna practice receiving, serving, spiking and setting!
Im using this channel to show my make shift team how to play and thanks to him and his simple videos we should be better than most the teams that we’re playing. So Thanks 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
My Tips: • before a game apply alot of mousiterizer on your arms, reduces the pain on your arms, when the ball hits. • drink a lot of water it's important to stay hydrated • get a good 8 - 9 hours of sleep before a game because your body needs rest and prep for alot of running and physical exercise. • keep your arms as straight as possible for receiving and passing it will make it alot more accurate and easier. • communicate with your teammates, call "mine" when you want the ball • make sure all of your hair is tied up, even side fringes ( Like mine) really get in the way when your jumping around and moving your head side to side. • make sure your shoe laces are ties extra tight. That was you can move around easily, but not too tight to hurt your feet. • wear knee pads because Landing on the ground hurts, and you can dive for the ball without hesitation. • have a positive mind set, negativity will greatly impact your actions and bring you down. If you miss a ball, or accidentally let it fall, don't beat yourself up about it, everyone makes mistakes. • practice as regularly as you can, practice passing, tossing, or blocking at a wall, keep fit, practice makes perfect! I hope these tips helped, tell me how they worked out for you! These helped me alot as a beginner 💕💕
i have been watching these for the last two weeks, they are really awesome. You tackle so many things. You play great and you explain everything really clearly. Thank you so much!
Elevate Yourself my coach always tells me not to swing, if I don’t swing then I can’t get the ball high enough and if I use my legs it’s hard to adjust to the ball last minute.
Donny, that was excellent!! Exactly what I was looking for. You really broke it down, step by step, and also gave suggestions on how to practice them with a friend. Thank you!
I started watching Haikyuu last week and whenever there's a practice match or just tournament Karasuno really make me wants to play Volleyball! I never played it before , today I got to play it with a few seniors who I never met. We had fun practicing together! I figured that my serve isn't the best but I can receive and pass the ball "very" well , thanks to Daichi hahah ^^ My friend wanted to play Volleyball too and it shocked me that she watches Haikyuu! We practiced together today and had fun , now I'm really getting into Volleyball and wanted to learn it but no one's there to teach me. I'm very scared when the ball comes towards me because I'm afraid that it'll broke my glasses so I always run away from it-
I just joined volleyball at my school and I had difficulty controlling the ball when passing, and this video helped me and I improved a lot!! Thank u so much!!
So that's why the ball kept hurting my bones and going in weird directions! My platform wasn't correct, and it was below my wrist. This helped a lot, thanks!
1. Medium body position or posture 2. Staggered athletic stance, feet shoulder width 3. Knees Bent 4. Shoulders forward 5. Arms front and relaxed 6. Fingers locked 7. Thumbs parallel (flat platform) 8. Elbows locked 9. One motion platform 10. Contact ball right above where you wear a watch 11. Knee, Waist, Sternum
This video really helped me understand the basics of a bump. I now know all the positions, and the correct way to bump. This helped me with my understanding and helped me get a better pass.
I'm watching this video because, well, Donny is one of the best Coaches I've ever met and I'm a Fan of Haikyuu ... A series that made me not like sports at all, now it's one of the things I like the most, or at least volleyball xd.
Holy shit. Every time I practiced my receiving/passing, I thought the ball was supposed to hit the bone right below your thumb, AND IT HURT SO MUCH. So I thought there was something wrong with me. I started playing volleyball during quarantine so my team and I never got practice with our coach so I didn’t know.
I’m a freshman btw. My gym teacher is early-forty’s and jacked and he was his school’s team ace. We play sass(split net 2v2) and he keeps spiking the ball ball at me and it’s frustrating when I can’t get them, so thank you for this series.
Great video as always! I was just wondering what good pre-game warm ups are, and whether or not we should stretch before playing. I know a good warm ups are really important because sometimes if I go for a light run before playing my vertical jump increases between 1 - 2 inches, but this isn't always the case. Am I just having good days or is a run not sufficient enough for a warm up. Thanks.
+Joface333 I actually do not think stretching is a necessity. Light movements or games increasing with tensity to get warmed up is usually sufficient for Volleyball. After that you can do a bit of stretching but as of late (in university) they do not teach it as a necessity anymore. But there is a strong debate about this and it usually turns around every 5-10 years :)
I've actually been having problems with having my forearms on the same height. I was used to putting my hands together in the wrong way for so long but it wasn't obvious what the problem was. Thanks to everything you've showed in this video I think I've solved my problem and I can finally begin passing correctly. Thanks so much!
Great vids, informative, concise and yet detailed. You also cover volleyball topics/techniques that are pretty specific and that helps with refining game play overall. Im sure I echo the sentiments of many when I say that we've been waiting for GOOD volleyball tutorials on youtube for a long time! You just got yourself a sub and i'll recommend my team members to watch and sub too. What I would like is a detailed demonstration of the 6-2 volleyball system including transferring on and off the net during attack and defense, for a whole rotation. If this is possible that would be great. Also, a brief explanation (possibly with visual aids) of what you mean by the 1,4,5 (etc) attack. What do these sets look like and when are they best used. Thanks! From a technique point of view could you run through a slide attack please and also provide tips on generating heavy topspin on a smash. Many thanks!
thanks for this, cuz usually Sports Teachers here in PH aren't Volleyball enthusiasts so they sometimes taught us bad Platforms that gives us difficulties on Receiving💖
Hi could you please do a video on how to hit a short ball attack. Maybe focus more on timing and how to hit, and then maybe another video talking about how the setter can setup and set a good short ball attack THX
You are doing one very wrong thing, which is digging by moving your arms. Most of the movement when digging should be done with your legs. That's because you can be much more precise controlling the ball bouncing direction when the bouncing plane is not tilting. It's much harder to predict the bouncing direction when the arms are moving hence changing the bouncing plane.
Ohhhh thank goodness....my daughter and I thought we were the only ones seeing that this guy is doing a few things wrong. When we analyzed the video in slow motion....it appears that he is also, bumping with his wrist being the central impact point.... which is exactly, what he said not to do.
There is quite a controversy about arm swing passing. Many are teaching this way. The reality is that in game play you will never swing your arms unless it is a "free" ball. Watch any pass receive and no one is swinging because it would launch the ball. Platform is fixed plane.yep.
Lets gooo I made the team, for 6 months experience of volleyball I already play start up with the 8 th graders (im in 7th) The only 7th grader that plays on the court with them, then sometime the bleachers games ofc for the others. Im the most athletic 7th grader in my school haha
Does anyone else get this feeling from the bottom of their belly to there heart when they spike or receive it.The view from the summit. When you do feint and you look down on the people who tried to dig it.The feeling of pure superiorit.
Feet shoulder width apart Feet staggered , one in front of another(should always be taking steps back ) Knees bent Shoulders foward , in front of knees Hands relaxed in front One motion ( quiet passing- no dramatic movements!!)
i need to watch this bcoz my p.e is volleyball. i dont have a favorite sport. later we will have pratical exam and i am a group leader. wanna die right now 😭
@@wallowing5175 it’s not ass nice as it looks. The wood burn of your chin and knees don’t help much. But most of the time you’re running mad. Not for beginners.
