I just love the way you involve your kids in everything. Perfect way to teach. YOU ARE A GREAT 👍👍 FATHER!!

Great seeing some old fashioned father son bonding! Lost my dad when I was only 15, and he never had the time to actively teach me much. Luckily had a kind old neighbor whose kids didn’t have time for him. He taught me a TON of useful things, from basic car maintenance to sharpening a chainsaw. God bless and RIP Mr. Riley!

So glad you teach him how to do things like that, I was a 50 something year old woman and I learned to change the oil and filters in my mower, and the battery, and I was so so proud when it started up and ran well when I got done. Go Houston!

I don’t believe I’ve mentioned this before but my husband and I are bereaved parents… this is part of the dream we once had… to pass on our traditions to our children, to show them how to survive… cook, take care of equipment and tools, just to appreciate how precious life is and how to get everything out of life with your own two hands… sometimes for me your videos are bittersweet… I don’t covet what you have but I do enjoy daydreaming of what that would have been for us and you guys help me do that. Exposure therapy I suppose… thank you for that. God bless you Arms Family.

Excellent idea. Many men grow up learning NOTHING. When i was married my husband was helpless. Anything he needed to do he had to get a friend to show him how to do it or pay someone to do it for him. Also it is a good idea to start teaching him stuff while he is YOUNG enough to be interested. As you said teenagers lose interest in learning things.

My Dad also taught me to not pour the used oil on the ground. Instead, he took a 5 gal. bucket and put about 2-3 gal. of sand in it then poured the oil in the sand. Whenever we were finished with the shovels, just sink the blades in the sand and you'll always have clean, rust-free tools. I call that "repurposing".

It is great for you to teach Houston that. I loved being around my dad when I was growing up. I was the only girl in my day and age that knew how to change a tire, check and change a fan belt, and Check all my fluid levels in my vehicle. I even learned how to change the oil. I think it’s a life lesson all kids should learn.

OK Daniel, I have two girls and one boy. I showed them all how to work on cars and what and where basic parts are. I told the girls that I didn't expect them to do oil changes or install new plugs but I wanted them to know that when a mechanic says the muffler bearings need to be changed, RUN. Anyhow, did you show Houston how to measure the gap on those plugs?

It made me smile to see Huston learning how to maintain the equipment. I have 4 daughters and 1 son. They have all learned how to cook, sew and maintain the house. How to make plans & build what they want out of wood or metal. They can doo their own plumbing and electrical. When it comes to vehicles they know how to do their own maintenance. Luke I told them you don't have to like it, I just wanted them to know how too. That way no one can take advantage of them and if times get tough they can still take care of themselves. I'm a very proud momma of them. Good job Huston.

Houston did fine. I used to help my dad with the car and could take care of my car too. I remember my dad telling me to change the antifreeze in the family car one time and I thought I was pretty cool especially since I was a girl and I could do it by myself. All kids, boys and girls should need to know these things. Dinner was looking really good. Daniel I know your dad would be proud, I know you learned lots from him. I know things have changed and I remember teaching my mom how to care for her car after my dad passed away, because in her day girls were not supposed to be doing mechanical work, as that was a man's job.
