He deserves it. He is an amazing excellent broadcaster. He's someone I look up to. He's an inspiration to me in my radio career. I'd love to meet him to honor him.
How many professional sports teams have 3 Hall of Fame play by play men. The Cubs have Jack Brickhouse (1983), Harry Caray (1989), and Pat Hughes (2023). Pat joins a long line of great play by play announcers the Cubs have had for many years. Little know obscure fact though, former President Ronald Reagan did radio for the Cubs while living in Iowa before becoming an actor and politician.
I just got back from the game and it was so heartwarming as us fans found out in real time and got to give him a great big standing O! Love Pat to death. Best voice in sports!
Congratulations Pat. Truly one of the best. I love how he kept thanking everyone else and giving the credit to his partners. Always humble and down to earth
I got a “Cameo” from Mr. Hughes for my birthday last week. Most cameos are 30 to 60 seconds, maaaaybe a little longer. Pat’s Cameo was nearly 3 minutes long, talking “to me” about my military service and baseball, only stopping because he had to go get ready to head Wrigley to call the Cubs/Brewers game that night. I don’t know if there’s a better representation of why Pat Hughes is the best baseball has to offer than the fact that the only thing stopping him from thanking a fan for 27 years of loyal listening is going to baseball heaven to talk about baseball with the rest of the world; just pure class.
Wow, what a great time. So many games listened to on the radio as a kid and adult. He’s been most constant voice of the cubs, and I love him for it. No one more deserving and what great call to send it off.
Every time I hear his voice it's like the soundtrack to my childhood couldn't afford cable so it was cubs baseball on wgn I just wish Ron Santo could see you go in
I remember living in Milwaukee and hearing Pat on the call for the Brewers with Bob Uecker. The days with Pat and Ronnie were great and sometimes heartbreaking. The WS win was the second best day of my life behind my brother being born. We love you Pat congrats buddy. You are now immortal. Go Cubs Go!
Such a well deserved honor for Pat. Such a great iconic radio voice but also so knowledgeable and humble. So many monitors from Sosas home run calls to World Series run. Thanks Pat
Congratulations Mr. Pat. He’s a great radio broadcaster for the Cubbies. Wishing you the best of luck of this year’s Hall of Fame. Sending my greetings. 🙋🏻♂️
Pat Hughes will forever be my favorite radio broadcaster of all time and that will never change! So many long car rides from work and sports listening to Pat call the games 🥹
MUCH deserved is an understatement. There's a reason why most Cubs fans prefer to listen to the radio broadcast over the televised broadcast. He paints the picture of the game so well as if you are watching it.
I could listen to Pat Hughes describe paint drying, and keep listening for an hour while he did so. He is such a pleasure to listen to. Thank you Mr. Hughes.👏👏
Best play by play guy in the business. I wouldn't be a Cubs fan if I hadn't listened to Pat & Ron on the radio calling the games way back when. No one can replace Santo, but Coomer is a great partner to Pat now. Hopefully they call the games for many, many years. Well deserved Pat, you're a class guy and a wealth of baseball knowledge and no matter how the team is doing it's always entertaining to hear you guys on the radio.
Can you imagine how hard tbat must have been for Coomer KNOWING how big the shoes were to fill and even has the same name as the dude hes replacing? Thats a TOUGH ask.
Congratulations Pat Hughes, when you can connect with people almost as a second nature that is a true blessing and you deserve it. As a Chicagoan, not a Cubs fan, but still it is a blessing to hear your voice.
Man was being inducted to into the baseball HOF and still kept the listeners updated on what was happening in the game. What a legend. Harry was great but it’s time Pat gets the same credit, maybe even more. If the Cubs are great or terrible, I listen to every game Pat and Ron broadcast. No other duo calls games like they do.
9 months later and I still get goosebumps watching this. All time great in the radio booth. Me and my dad bonded over listening to you when I was a kid and we still do to this day and for that I can never repay you. The voice of Cubs radio for now and forever.
Man, Just the nicest guy in the world. I have loved so many of these guys. Jack Brickhouse, and Milo Hamilton, and harry and his son chip caray, Steve Stone, Ron santo, jimmy Piersol, etc. Pat is as good as anyone.
I was walking home from work and decided to randomly put this radio broadcast on about 5 minutes before the announcement. It picked me right back up after a long, hard work day.
Congratulations getting in the Cubs Hall of Fame Pat one whole Broadcasting listen to you for years Harry find Sal Jack Brickhouse all of great analysis before years up and having laying down at you I hope you have more success Go Cubs
Pat Hughes voice mixed with the radio quality are sounds I remember the most as a kid now being 23, if it was summer and my family was in the car the cubbies were always on
I've listened to Cubs games on the radio for about 15 years. I first fell in love with the Cubs after hearing a game on the radio when I was 6 or 7, and still love hearing Pat & Ron call every game. Cubs radio is my favorite way to follow a game, because everyone on air, especially Pat, describe the game with such vivid detail and find interesting ways to fill the empty moments that invariably happen in baseball. However, in a twist of events, I actually didn't catch this moment or this game on the radio- I watched it live in person at Wrigley Field, in my 3rd game ever at Wrigley (after watching my first two ever the day prior). Getting to see this happen and be announced live in person was really cool, but I know catching it on the radio would have been just as awesome. Huge Congratulation to Pat for being probably the reason I still love the Cubs after all these years, and for being inducted into the Cubs HOF. He's truly one of the best broadcasters at least of this era, and probably of all time.
Congratulations, Pat! I loved listening to the Brewer games with you and Uecker in the booth. Wisconsin baseball fans were extremely lucky to have two of the greatest announcers of all time in the same booth for 12 years.
I love how he's getting a huge honor and still goes back to calling the game even after they told him he could stop doing play by play. That's a fucking pro right there.
THANK YOU MR. HUGHES! I Greatly enjoy listening to each Cubs game, you bring so much detail through your announcing! I would rather listen to the ball game they watch it and that is because of your work. Mr. Coomer and yourself are so great together and I have had many good laughs also. Thank you for all your work and Congratulations Sir!
