The "dry" feeling of the foundation might be due to the alcohol, but also due to the ingredient Isododecane. I can sense and spot the tiniest bit of it in pretty much every cosmetic because I used to be a lot oilier a few years ago and the Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet foundation was my HG. And Isododecane is the 2. ingredient in it. And it's the 3. ingredient in the PMG foundation. It gives foundations a very typical velvety, dry-touch finish that I can't stand anymore nowadays because I'm not that oily anymore. And to my skin, it feels drying, even though it is not. It just feels like my skin shrinks with it. So, I'm not surprised at all how you describe the feeling of the PMG foundation because I can feel it, too. I knew the second, I used the first pump that I wouldn't like this velvety-dry touch. Not anymore.

Jasmin Blüte you are exactly right from a formulation standpoint . Isododecanes are common in foundations and it’s a great ingredient that acts as a solvent to help the foundation spread. When the foundation formula is thick enough to need to put it in high concentrations (high on the h ingredient list) to help the foundation spread , it always grabs my wrinkles and makes me look like old Rose in Titanic 🤦🏼‍♀️

You're spot on about the Alcohol. This is not the good fatty kind, but the straight up drying kind, and it's the 3rd ingredient (after water.) For dry skin, Eczema prone or Rosacea, it's just easiest to avoid. But I absolutely appreciate that you're still unbiased about the product and understand that for others, it's still an option. Love your channel.

I hope people didn't give you a hard time about mentioning the alcohol in the product. You have eczema. You would know what works for your skin. I appreciate your opinion and unique experience. As a 46 year old, I appreciated that you mentioned the product had alcohol. I think we all need to pay more attention to what is in the products we use especially on our skin.

@paulabollers6396
@paulabollers6396 5 лет назад
@@reacher9856 Yes!!! I think a lot of people become blindly loyal to brands. If one product doesn't work for you, it doesn't mean that you don't like anything the brand makes. I love PM eyeshadows and lip glosses but this foundation is not for me. A reviewer can only talk about how a product works for themselves and a good reviewer like Michelle will be honest and detail what did and did not work. Definitely, the size of the powder container just seems like a factually statement not a critique.

I myself can’t take any of the drying alcohols, as my skin starts to itch and come out with bumps and rashes the next day. You’re so transparent and I really like that about you. Thankyou so much and keep up the good work.

Always classy Michelle. I'm glad you addressed the "alcohol" issue... I, too am in my mid 40's and I have papular/pustular rosacea. Every time I run down the ingredients list (in a product) and find alcohol, I have to say no. It frustrates me to no end when someone tells me: "not all alcohol is bad". With such a problematic skin condition I've done my homework, I know what exacerbates it and what I can tolerate. I'm glad you put that issue to rest, and with such aplomb and grace.

I have acne rosacea and have to be careful with products. I’m currently avoiding alcohol, fragrance, and some essential oils (like eucalyptus) in products. My skin would react within hours or less. Before my 50s, I could wear anything. My, how age changed my skin. Also, chemical sunscreens burn my skin and eyes. It’s getting difficult to find a lovely, skin-like sheer foundation, sadly.

I appreciate your honesty and integrity in this review, Michelle. I am very dry skinned but not necessarily sensitive. I use a lot of emollient, hydrating and moisturizing products on my skin before I add foundation so I have a pretty good lipid layer along with moisturizer's that tend to be sealing so that moisture isn't lost during the day. Combined with all of that I use a sunscreen that isn't drying and I always use a moisturizing mist before foundation and sometimes during the day. I have been able to tolerate foundations with alcohol and have not noticed any effect on my skin. I am 65 years old so not young skin anymore. My point is that I think people have to recognize their own skin, pay attention to how it reacts and what it tolerates and what causes problems. I don't blanket eliminate anything because I have "easy" skin. If a foundation works for me and has alcohol in it I don't necessarily eliminate trying it but I respect that there are people who know their skin, know what is a problem and avoid those ingredients at all costs and that is perfect for them. Thank you for your thorough review. Deborah

Hi Michele - thank you for a very fair and candid review of the PM foundation products. You are so right in terms of everyone being different with varied experiences across any product. Having said that, I am very appreciative of you calling our attention to specific ingredients that are likely to cause irritation etc. for those of us with certain skin characteristics. Love the fact that you never give a “stamp of approval” because it is popular to do so - makes your channel stand out - again thank you. I am liking the PM foundation - my skin is quite dry and so far this foundation is amazing (for me) - the powder is nice but not better or even quite as good as the Koh Gen Do - but I would not and am not using it daily. 👍😘💖

Love the review. The foundation finish looked really good. I am surprised not many people are commenting on the alcohol content, given the fact this foundation is marketed as having skincare ingredients and good for skin. You are right Alcohol in this foundation is the bad one (denatured ethanol or some other short chain alcohol). Good alcohols are long chain alcohols and usually listed specifically in the ingredient list. Rule of thumb if you get strong alcohol smell in your product it is usually is the bad one and also higher up in the ingredient list. My skin is also very sensitive and dry. I stay away from anything which has alcohol very high up in the ingredient list. So this foundation is a no for me.

Hi Michele, I'm so glad you clarified the 'alcohol' listed on this foundation, and that this is the drying, damaging type of alcohol, not the fatty type alcohol that is safer to the skin barrier. I think that is a confusing issue for a lot of people. I'm also happy to hear you say that you may review a product and like it, but because of certain ingredients etc. you may not use it often. There is so much mistrust in the beauty community and a lot of it goes back to people taking sponsorship's and not disclosing it in an obvious way or at all. I've noticed that with some youtubers that I trusted in the past and now I have lost faith in their positive reviews due to trying to hide sponsorship's. You are someone I trust completely and I always check your channel first when it comes to purchases I am considering. I heard about this primer balling up really badly - so then I wonder if we will be able to wear moisturizer under it - moisturizer is a must for me. I wonder if she added the extra 5 ml's in this foundation due to how thin it is? And I really can't believe the powder is 5 gms, I don't think I've ever seen such a small amount. I think that's ridiculous and I would not purchase it with all the beautiful powders out there (plus, I rarely use powder due to my dry skin-LOL). The foundation (whole system) looks great on you! Thanks for doing such a great job with your channel and for this thorough review! Take care, Ginny 😘😘😘

I feel exactly the same way about ingredients :) I love(d) this foundation but I won’t wear it everyday bc of the straight up alcohol. In the primer the alcohols higher on the list are fatty alcohols so that’s ok. You are so right, everyone needs to decide for themselves but it’s wonderful that you’ll still test out and bring your peeps these products 💜 When you price out the LP powder it’s actually economical 😳😂 That’s what I’m telling myself anyway 😝 Crazy that PM is 1/2 the size of the travel size LP!! I didn’t buy the powder bc I’m so dry but now thinking on the price/gram....definitely wouldn’t anyway. Wonderful review 💜 I’m going to try the foundation with some radiant primers too. Hey Michele, my honest opinion...your channel and reviews are second to none, you are the most honest and trustworthy person I’ve ever come across on RU-vid. I don’t have eczema but I do get dry patches and my skin is so sensitive that I run from products with alcohol and scent. I’ve really upped my game this past year with skincare so I’m not going to undo all the good and expense by using products that are detrimental to it. The primer and foundation are a big pass for me, I also hate that tight feeling. I’m so pleased you reviewed the powder because I was interested in it but I didn’t realise just how little product was in it for the price so I’m skipping that one too, I think I’m getting wiser in my older age. How does the powder compare to the Chanel Michele in terms of how it sits on the skin and what’s with the glitter? This was a great review....thank you for just being you.🥰

Hi Michele, your honesty is so real and refreshing!! I also tried the foundation last night, and the smell bugged me immediately. Major alcohol scent. I also used too much and it felt tacky, but the application was delightful. I used my fingers and it covered my redness from my eczema. I picked light medium 14 and it was a tad off, but I still liked the color. I’m going to reapply today and use Laura mercier setting powder with the glow in it. Depending on the wear today, I will decide if I send it back. Oh and her shipping sucks 💕

I love how informative your videos are ❤️ I really wanted to be able to try these products, but I try to avoid alcohol and fragrance in my makeup and skincare. Fragrance doesn't particularly bother my skin either, but it is a sensitizing ingredient and continuous use could lead to an allergic reaction. I'm very wary of it because I have minor rosacea and psoriasis and just sensitive skin in general!

Oh Michelle you are so great! I really enjoy your reviews so thank you! I personally will not be going to purchase the PM foundation due to the alcohol. The last thing I need on my dry mature skin is alcohol. You really explain everything so clearly. Now the primer and powder I might pick up. Have a wonderful Saturday 💕

Thank you sooo much for the clarification regarding alcohol on the inki list!! This information will definitely help me with selecting products in the future and also explains some reactions I’ve had from foundations now that I’m in my late 50s and experiencing some mild sensitivity!! 😘

Good comprehensive review - as usual! Safe travels this weekend & thanks for all you do for us, as consumers. I can save money on this system. Is the La Prairie powder non-drying?

Thanks for the detailed video. I agree that there has been so much confusion about this launch.. but everyone I have seen seems to like how the foundation looks on the skin and wears throughout the day. Thank you again for helping me decide . I will definitely try the foundation on its own. 🙂🙂

Great, thorough and unbiased review! Even though I know I should stay far away from this foundation, I'm still wanting it! But no Sephora nearby to get a sample or even find the correct shade match. Would be curious to see what you ended up packing for your trip...have fun!!!

Hi Michele, I am also in my mid-40s with dehydrated and dry skin. Additionally I have eczema and psoriasis, but no flare ups on or around my face (yet). I’m on my second full-day wear of PML primer, foundation (I got shades 7 and 13 to customize as I get fairer or tanner), and the powder...and I absolutely love the finish and longevity so far and I have not experienced any sensitivity or drying of my skin. That being said, I very much appreciate your warnings and callouts on all products you review. I keep these top of mind as I decide whether to shell out big $! Keep up the great work 😊

I'm so glad I found you! ❤❤❤ your professionalism and honesty outshines all of them! I trust you. And your personality is very relatable for me! Also, you are a naturally beautiful woman!

Thanks for this insightful review Michele! It’s nice to watch one review that just bashes on the price and focuses on it so much haha. I’m with you on the alcohol, I’m combo but simply dislike the feeling of alcohol drying down on my skin. Since that primer doesn’t work well for you I wonder if a thicker moisturizer(hi La Mer!) can make a better base? Some sort of emollient sunscreen, primer etc. have fun in NY! Low key expecting some kind of haul after your trip 😎

Thank you so much for putting your face/skin at risk for us! Your honesty is what keeps us all coming back and I’m sure it helps people that may share some of the same skin issues😊 when you showed us the list of ingredients the word alcohol I think I saw an “s” on the end of it so it said alcohols? What in the heck does that mean? I also heard on someone else’s channel, I cannot remember who, said that Pat had helped formulate the Armani luminous silk...does this one feel like that? Because on screen it looks very similar if not identical! Thanks again for sharing! After going back to see the primer ingredients it looks like it says 2 numbered alcohols in the primer! I hope this doesn’t doom your skin! Lol I wonder if the sparkle you’re seeing is the mica in it🤷🏻‍♀️

PMG sent me an email when I purchased on the 27th of July saying that it would take up to 6 BUSINESS days to run through the fullfillment and shipping process. I think they weren't prepared for the demand and this launch comes close to a 20% off sale. Plus I think they knew there were issues with the label on the primer lifting, so they probably have quality control looking at the items. I'm not thrilled about waiting and I do think they need to communicate loudly about the delay after putting in so much time to get influencers their bottles. I am excited to use this even with the alchohol. I just adjust my skincare routine as I have to do with my Fenty which gives me huge pimples. Also excited about becoming more oily as sebum helps with aging. The fact is most of the brands you showed that offer powders, though beautiful, neglect darker skinned people (translucent shows ashy). Happy to wait for something that works for me. :)

I’ve been driving myself nuts deciding what to do since I have to return and rebuy the three piece kit in order to get a new shade which is currently sold out. So glad I got to see this before repurchasing because it looks like the primer and powder are not for me at all. Thank you!

Loved this review. I had to pause after your intro about the alcohol and go research the UD foundation I just bought. I need to get better at looking at the ingredients. I knew there was a reason I didn’t want to wear it 2 days in a row. $68 is too rich for my blood these kids going back to school soon lol. Looks beautiful on you Michele my belle 💜

Once again, an excellent, clear and unbiased review! Not really impressed with the makeup, or with the extremely expensive powder (it turns out to be $10.00 per gram compared with La Prairie's 40g at $5.50 per gram, which by the way is superior in quality, performance and packaging). Your skin however and the rest of your makeup (cheeks and eyes), wow. Fantastic, impeccable after 12 hours! Congratulations on your channel, I have become a firm follower!

You are spot on about the alcohol. I also have eczema (and mature, dry skin), and if I use skincare with alcohol it's like pouring acid on my face. It burns and causes my eczema to flare horribly. If it's listed in the first 6 to 10 ingredients, it will be a problem. If it's wayyyyy down on the ingredients list (like this foundation) I can usually tolerate it, but as you said, it would be something I only use on occasion. If I were to spend $90.00 CAD on a foundation, it would be a special occasion one anyway, lol!

The foundation really does look amazing. It’s a shame about the powder but I wonder how it would look with very radiant foundations, like the Cle de Peau one. Thank you for being so detailed with your reviews!

Ok where do I begin ? You are the FIRST influencer I’ve seen who is in the same predicament I’m in which is not receiving your dang package! You have many more subscribers than I do so I understand why you went out and bought it - I unfortunately cannot. I also appreciate you stating upfront that you may not wear this often because of the alcohol content. I did not know the powder had so little product in it. My SAMPLE SIZE of the Fenty powder has 7.8g!

Hello Michele. Found you through Rich Lux. Thrilled to have found you! Instead of watching your newest video first... I immediately came to your Pat McGrath video... because of been contemplating getting this system. Hmmm 🤔. I do purchase a lot of her eyeshadows and lipsticks.. so naturally I’m interested. I too am over 40 ish. LoL. I’ll leave it there for now. I have oiler skin.. and what I always return to is my Lancôme products. Anyway, your channel is just my kind of channel... So looking forward to watching and listening to you. Much love♥️♥️

Great choice on the powder; it looks great on your skin (I think the sparkle you're seeing is the mica in the ingredients). Not a big pot 🙁 but I like powder over liquid, so if I purchase anything, it would probably be the powder.

Hi Michele and thank you so much for your honesty and transparency. Your reviews are priceless. I was Looking forward to know about this foundation but now I am going to pass. For that price I much prefer to buy again some others as my La Mer one or try the new Chanel eau the teint that is sold out at the moment but they told at the counter that will be available again in September. I really want to try this 😊😘😘
