In theory this is more like patenting a specific dolly track path. The worry is a small dev is probably not able to pay to fight a bad lawsuit if their non infringing system looks kinda sorta like the nemesis system.

The thing is, them simply HAVING the patent is what scares off anyone doing anything remotely near it, because if they chose they could just throw money at it to tie up the courts until your own cash dries up, no matter how in the clear you may believe you are. Bayonetta was specifically not a mini-game, it got around it by it being just the normal game in a sandbox to test combos.

Okami had two minigames in it's loading screen. But they were more micro, than mini. Still, at least they gave something to do, and a reward if you did it right.

to my very limited knowledge you can ask the patent office to reevaluate the patent and, if they don't revoke it, you can take it to court. if you use example of past art that is similar (like, say, any other game with enemies that evolve over interactions with players) then you could get it revoked that way, assuming you have the cash to win (start a go-fund-me, well off developer hopeful reading this, i'll donate and i'm sure lots of others will to bring wb down a peg and to protect art). you could also develop in a country that isn't a corrupt corporatocracy, i guess

@@TheMightyBone I've been a PC gamer since I was 8, and playing MMOs since I was 15, I don't play them anymore but it just occurred to me that playing ESDF would be a really comfortable set up game with a lot of hotkeys, like FF14, it opens up a lot of really good emergency hotkeys that are easy to hit. I don't think so because they aren't in a hierarchy nor are their procedurally generated. Still, this mechanic is begging to be used in rogue-likes and other genres.

I used he/she in a short story once because I'd previously been told to use he/she instead of they. Said teacher then told me to find a way to reword the story so I didn't need to use he/she as much. But I still wasn't allowed to use they. What do they want from us??! 🤣

I always thought you can use they in a singular sense when you are referring to someone formally or in case you don't know then and want to be polite

See that's weird, because I was taught to use singular they, which made the backlash I saw about it really confusing lmao. conversely, I was told to never use a / in prose so who tf knows lol.

People have used "they" in the singular sense for centuries, and anyone who says what you ~should~ use is just giving an opinion, so I wouldn't worry about it! Write what you like, it's all good (unless you have to follow a style guide for some specific reason)
