I understand your points about the album, but in the end you clearly dont know what you are saying...Ozzy simply cannot retire, he has been trying since the 90s. Through his book (which you probably read cause it is right behind you) he says very often how music gives meaning to his life and how he strugglres without it. I think nobody should say how people should spend their last years. Whatever Ozzy retires or not, I will support him, and honestly I hope he keeps making music, cause I love this guy and everything he has done for the genre which is my life.

On the Technical Ecstasy record, released 1976 I believe, the very first track is "Back Street Kids," which has a line, " 'Cause I'm a rock 'n 'roll soldier, 'gonna play it until I die." He sung that in his 20s, and he lived those words. He is going to do it until his dying breath, and I love him for that, and everybody wants him to keep going as long as he can. And in all fairness, his vocals are pretty good for his age and condition. Most of the time I honestly feel like I'm hearing 80s Ozzy on the new album. There are a few moments when the modern autotune is noticeable, but for the most part the vocals feel very good.

I'm a 14 y.o girl and I started loving Ozzy's music thanks to the song Patient Number 9, and now I'm discovering all his discography, so I really like this album:)

I'm a longtime Ozzy fan but I disagree that he changed history. He made some good music and had a sweet voice but he didn't innovative or change history. If you are referring to Black Sabbath for a heavy sound, that was Tommy/Geezer/Bill (the musicians) and Ozzy admits he had nothing to do with the music. Ozzy didn't change history.

I personally like the fact that he's carried on making music despite his deteriorating voice. He obviously knows his voice isn't what it used to be. But the fact that he will make a record no matter what it takes is really inspirational to me. And I definitely feel that on this record. I can hear him saying "I'm still here and I'll continue until I physically can't". Yes, his voice is very processed, but I can still hear Ozzy underneath it all. And the powerful emotions he's always conveyed are still there. So, I really like this record. Music is supposed to make you feel something. So frankly, I don't give a fuck about whether or not he's in form any more. He probably never will be again. He's 80 years old. But he's still making music despite all of this. And that's what makes it worth listening to for me.

Totally agree. Better than his last album. The very first time I listened to the album, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but after the 2nd or 3rd listen, I fell in love with it. Now I can't stop playing it. The solos and Ozzy's voice sound prime.

It’s by no means classic old school Ozzy… but it does have a good amount of melody and hooks. This may be the first Ozzy album I will buy after many years!

@@ErWo75 Honestly I usually just stream music online. I have bought a bunch of CD's of older stuff but in terms of anything newer being released nothing has justified me paying for it brand new. I may buy the Megadeth one as well. It's crazy in 2022 we're talking about Ozzy and Megadeth with new albums and both kick ass lol.

I clicked on this having never seen any of your other videos but to me this album means the world. Listened to it all last night after the visualizers were posted and while I admit it’s not as punchy or heavy riffed as 13 by Black Sabbath which is probably what I throw in my player the most. I love the difference and variety this album gives and the lyrics are unique and different and the songs feel edgy to me and hearing ozzy sing in his LIVE past in performances it sounds genuine in all the vocals. This is my favorite ozzy project in recent years and it is beyond inspiring to me that this album is out and to me the album doesn’t sound auto filtered or any sort or massive edited to make ozzy sound different it sounds very much like when he sings on The End or in a lot of the other work he’s done. Only song on the album that underwhelmed me was the One of those Days song with Eric Clapton. Again lyrically it’s good but that’s the one song I feel I could skip even though I don’t mind it. The rest of the songs I really like and can get behind. This album is absolutely Ozzy Osbourne in every sense, there are some effects on his voice like at the start of a song or here and there but for me the majority of the album feels very much like his other work. Of course I appreciate and respect your opinion, and watched your video and appreciate your passion for music that is clearly in your presentation, I’m often the person who does like what others don’t. I’m the man who was in tears of joy listening to the majority of these songs, and will have this album on every freaking day for a long time. You can have your opinion and I hope you grow to love the album more. 👍

This guy is full of shit. Ozzy is amazing on this album. I agree with your take on the lyrics. They are profound indeed. Standard Ozzy. As far as the voice, Ozzy has always altered his voice in certain songs, even when he was in Sabbath. It's part of his sound. He's still got it in spades. Nobody can fuck with Ozzy and sometimes this gathers a large amount of haters. Especially with the sheer amount of cred that he has gathered in metal. You know? The fact that he started it and all and it wouldn't exist without him part? Some people can't stand that. Long live The Prince Of Darkness!

I've always loved Ozzy's solo music but was kind of over getting excited about his newer stuff. But.... I'm really digging these new songs. 73 and still rocking hard. Looks great in the videos. He performed perfectly at the half time show. Outstanding.... Love you Ozzy!

Yeah production-wise this is not very good and yeah Ozzy’s voice has definitely aged at this point, but… eh it had solid enough tracks (And a few greats like Parasite, Patient Number 9 and God Only Knows). Credit where it’s due, there’s no offensively bad songs at all on here.

Best part of it was , One of those days, Clapton brought a grittiness that was something special and Ozzys voice was fairly good on that song, and the melody is great, it's the only song I want to play over and over.

I dont think this album can be compared to others, this is more of a supergroup album of "what ifs". Dead & Gone comes right out of the Shot In The Dark era and I love it.

I just finished listening to the album. I really enjoyed it. Ordinary men left a bad taste in my mouth. I hated the crap with Post Malone. And the whole thing just felt silly. This actually felt like a rock album. Like he was jamming, with his buddies.

I've been listening to Ozzy since 1970, what has kept him up front is the different sounds and things he is willing to try and "meld" together - a constant reinventing of himself. It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly...

Agree. He’s being pimped around by Sharon and that little weasel pop producer. That guy has no business being on stage with Ozzy and Zakk but there it is. I bet Ozzy has no idea of what the hell is going on and how he’s being pimped out. I listened to the album and it’s painfully cringe. Same song formulas as always. Auto tune , pointless guitar solos, sabbath style riff in the middle…nothing new, just stop already. I bet those pimps will bring mics and record vocal tracks when Ozzy is in his death bed.

Dude, like A LOT of albums, you MUST listen to them in their entirety several times. The very 1st time I listened to Patient Number 9, I was like "yea, OK. It's OK." But than over several days, while doing work, I listened to it several more times. I got to catch all the nuances, wicked solos, and listen intently to Ozzy's vocals. Now I can't stop listening to it. I find this happens many times with many albums. You cannot listen once or twice and give a valid critique. It's a pretty damm good album, in my opinion. Just give it a chance.

I love this album so much. Would it be better if Ozzy didn't need auto tune? In some ways yes but at 73 most singers do. You don't have that power anymore. Plus they give him perfect pitch, which musically can really be a nice thing. Making these albums made him so much happier and they make me happy too. When he did his first live performance in 4 years recently he was positively beaming when he came off stage and was so pleased that he was able to walk backstage completely unaided. As the chorus to God Only Knows says "better to burn in hell than fade away". If you haven't already I'd recommend getting the CD and ripping it to a lossless format using Exact Audio Copy. A lot of detail is lost with streaming online. His health is improving now with surgery. It is evident in his most recent interviews, he's not out of breath anymore. I think with the next album he will need less help. To me this album is a triumph and it's so well mixed. You can hear every instrument with total clarity.

i do see your point about his voice being overly compressed via digital work, that being said, if i were a 73 year old man with parkinsons, dislexia, high af on ever possible drug known to man with a giant ass legacy on my back which needed surgery twice AND had to go through Covid and the pandemic itself, i would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. and the fact that Ozzy had the balls to step up again and hold the mic is simply astonishing for a person of his age. Kudos to him and to everyone involved with the album

Ozzy has more than earned the right to retire when he sees fit. Which as he said "will be when I hear the dirt being shoveled on top of me". Respectfully, we don't have the right to say when his time is. I will take all the Ozzy I can get thank you, and I'll love all of it regardless. I started listening to this man when I was 13, 14 so about 10 years ago and he's gotten me through the toughest times of my life. I love this man.

I appreciate your honesty - very nicely constructed criticism! I feel as though despite your observations of the obvious regarding the digital manipulation of Ozzy's voice, this needs to be enjoyed for what it is - which is a man spending the last remaining time in his life doing what he truly loves. He doesn't want to retire and I think that's because he's not ready to disappear and fade fast into death itself and if anything, this is keeping his brain active - which of course will prolong his life. As sad as this is - he should be supported and loved for putting together something which few could ever have imagined five years ago. I'll take an enhanced cyberborg Ozzy over nothing - if he's happy I'm happy - his happiness IS the product and I'll buy it every time!

Love the album and I disagree with your opinion. It sound like the classic Ozzy style I have been listening to much longer than you have been alive! Sure Ozzy is 74 years old, expect a bit of step back to his prime but it is still better work than 98% of the current young musicians will ever hope to achieve at any point in their career and again OZZY has been cranking out hits and music that is now considered to be the birth of metal music for over a half a century!

I think it’s a very good album. I believe it’s the best Ozzy could do at this point, and I’m glad he did it. This may go down as Ozzy’s final album, and I’ll cherish it for that.

@GH0STST4RSCR34M true. But, look how long it took for those posthumous releases took at times. Even van Van Halen with the tons on unreleased songs haven't seen light of day yet. Prince estate greed really only re-released albums with bonus tracks instead of a new album . And Dio must nor have had any unreleased vault releases...as there hasn't been anything new or added unreleased songs after he passed. Ozzy may not have many shelved songs. I hope so, but, might not be. After watching his last few interviews from last album ordinary man to recent album, his speech and mobility has decreased. It's like they'd need to have recorded a couple albums worth during those Andrew watt sessions. I'm glad there are a nice array of ozzy and sabbath albums to keep enjoying til the next. And if this patient 9 is the final, it is a wonderful offering indeed.

Nobody is talking about the Zakk Track "Nothing Feels Right" where about 1/2 way in we are treated with a "Paranoid" album guitar tone which is something I have been wishing for hmmm, about forever now. It was Iommi's best tone, and they reproduced it flawlessly which really gave a Sabbathy weight to a track that didn't even feature Iommi, Ironically. I will take as much AI generated Black Sabbath reunion music as possible for lack of the possibility of anything new. Some of the production issues are just like early CGI...wait for it, it's going to get undetectable. Can't wait!

I don't know why you felt you needed to post this video. If you really are indeed a true Metalhead and a true fan of Black Sabbath and Ozzy, then I really don't think you would have posted something like this. I have literally been listening to Ozzy all of my life. I was born in '68, and my parents were playing Black Sabbath's first album all the time around me, when I was just a little carpet crawler. Ozzy has consistently been more of a part of my life, than my own fucking father. He's helped me through some of the darkest periods of my life. That being said, I am thrilled with his latest release. I am critical of Ozzy's work, there's a lot of stuff that I don't like from Ozzy. But as for this album, I think it's some of the best work he's done in a very long time. The more I listen to this album the more I like it, and I haven't had that happen with an artist in a long time. The man is 73 fucking years old and he still can belt it out and he's still has his passion for performing live. The audience is his most addictive drug of all. Lol He is also one of the most genuine, sincere, and humble people, in the music industry. I thought the album was alright. It obviously can’t live up to the classic 80’s albums, but it was fine for a 73 year old man having fun making music with his friends. As long as Ozzy’s heart is still in it and he’s enjoying himself, why should he stop making music? Not everything needs to be a magnum opus at the level of Blizzard of Oz or Diary of a Madman. I agree that maybe touring extensively probably wouldn’t be great for Ozzy’s health, but I have no problem with Ozzy recording music every so often as long as he wants to, and isn’t being forced to perform by Sharon, or whomever else would dictate decisions for him. 2.5 is probably a fair score for Patient Number 9, but I would never say that Ozzy should just retire from recording. Touring might be a different story.

This is one of my favourite albums it’s good and you know he’s like 73 years old so it doesn’t need to be amazing but music is in your blood nobody needs to retire until they want too. Also it’s so cool that he’s callabing with a lot of insane musicians. Some of his concerts aren’t the best but come on he’s 73 and amazing!! Know this is my opinion I stand by it

I saw Ozzy in 2010 in Victoria at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre with Rob Halford's other band Halford opening. It was one of the worst concerts I ever saw. Ozzy sounded like SHIT, mumbled the entire performance, but it wasn't nearly as bad as this past week when I saw Motley Crue, who was the last band onstage in Vancouver as it was a co-headline tour with Def Leppard. Vince Neil MUMBLED incoherently and it was almost as bad as when I saw Meat Loaf in 2016 on his last tour, which was the only time I got to see him as we unfortunately lost him early this year. Meat Loaf was the worst. He MUMBLED throughout the entire performance and that show was a dumpster fire!

I've seen Ozzy in 2018 I think it was. It was the No More tours tour & I thought he sounded good my only half way negative thing I had to say about it was the set was roughly a hour long & he only was singing for roughly thirty five minutes. The rest of the time Zack did a guitar solo and there was also a drum solo. It was still a good concert. Prior to that I seen Ozzy in 2017 at Chicago Open Air festival there was very little difference in he's performance than the first time I seen him at Ozzfest 2002. I also seen him in 2016 & 2015 with Black Sabbath. ( I could be off a year on the dates I think it's accurate though.)

Love the album. I love all the albums that Ozzy has done, including Sabbath, but Patient Number Nine goes very easy on my top 6-8. And at the moment, there is not even a competition which Ozzy album is my favourite, yeah, it's the PN9. And about Ozzy's vocals, sure, there must have been some (or maybe lot's) of studio trickery, but still, I thibk the production and the his vocals and performance sounds great. As a life long fanboy, I dig all of Ozzy's albums, but damn, the production and autotune (which I'm O.K. with, to the point) on the Black Rain and Scream almost, ALMOST ruin those the albums for me. The music, songs, Ozzy's vocals, production.....well, everything is much better on this new album, and Ordinary Man as well.Long Live Ozzy!!!!

Autotune or not it does the trick for me just fine, and also I love how in this album he's "singing" high notes again, which is something i missed in his previous latest efforts even in Sabbath's 13 I love the instrumentation and all but his vocals are to low and I don't listen to this album as much as patient n 9 probably because of that...this one it seems like playing live was never gonna happen so they took him to the limit in every fucking line he sings, and like u pointed added a lot of autotune and other tricks, but it still sounds like only Ozzy could sound, so you know he really went all in for it despite all the "help", and thats why almost every song in this album is a banger! All of the songs you can not only listen to it over and over, but you can also kinda see him singing this songs in the early 80's and that's all i want from him now, memorable songs that sound like the Ozzy from the era we loved, and he's definitely flying high again on this one, for his age and health it's a 10/10 album, and I'm hoping since he decided to retire from the stage, that he puts out yet another album before it might be too late, and not only cause I love him, but because I'm actually looking forward for more of what we got here. I think u've been way to harsh on your review here... I get what u're saying but there's a reason why almost no one here is agreeing with you, we can all hear what you're saying we're not deaf, but the real argument is why everyone is loving this album and you're not, is where you missed the point, and not, everyone else.... but hey, is just your ears and I can't blame you... if you can't get over the effects, and you rather have just another boring album singingwise from Ozzy i think the success of this album and most reviews from fans and media just proves your ears wrong again, that you're totally missing the point here, and missing out on a top tier Ozzy album, for the silliest reason...

Sadly, Ozzy's US counterpart who is one Alice Cooper, was not invited on this album and may never be on an Ozzy studio release. THOUGH!!!!, Ozzy appears on two Alice Cooper studio albums once on harmonica and the other as backup vocals. Disappointing if Alice and Ozzy are your two absolute Metal favorites.

Glad you took a stab at criticizing this powerhouse album, filled with real life metal superheroes... not an easy task, but you spoke your points well. In this post pandemic world, it took all of Mr Osbornes powers and his friends to reignite the Rock n Roll flame, at least as far as reaching the mainstream again. This is a valiant effort, and I believe a solid performance by Ozzy and Co. He might have to tour it for awhile for it to sink into everyone subconscious... But his claws will eventually get into the listener and that soul will become a metal convert surely enough. Ozzy is the prince of darkness and he is back to spread his kingdom of darkness to all who will listen .

Ok, Ozzys voice is not what it once was. That being said, I blame the production by Andrew Watts. It's way over produced. All the auto tune, the guitar work is really good but the guitar sound sucks and sounds thin. The drums are hidden in the back with what I think is incredible bass work by all of them who played. I know ozzys voice needs a little auto tune and cleaning up but Andrew Watts has turned him into robot man. He should stick with pop stars and leave metal alone.

I was pleasantly surprised and almost every song was good to better than anything he has made since Down to Earth and Black Rain. I liked everyone of the songs just not impressed greatly with the vinyl quality from the Target pressing. I'm definitely going to try another version. Rock on Ozzy as this was dark. Much much better than Ordinary Man!!! Will see how this ages but really enjoyed it. I do have the feeling it just might be the last Ozzy studio album though and that is a little sad to this 52 year old who has enjoyed Ozzy since he was 16 years old.

@@Concertfan201 wanted to update about the sound of the other record I got from Walmart. The gold pressing sounds much better in dynamics and has better all around sound for sure. The in between song silence isn't dead quiet but it's worth that to have better fidelity than the Target Exclusive. I bought the CD version too. I hope your right about continuing on as I really thought that Ordinary Man was going to be his last. I say though why not go out on top as I really think this could be rock album of the year. I really think it would be difficult to top this album.

This album is more tolerable than Ordinary Man, but that's not saying much. Even with all the musicians involved, the bulk in charge of songwriting came down to Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Ali Tamposi and Robert Trujillo. Hence I felt the songs very derivative: either leftovers from the previous album or "paying tribute" to 00's sound. Despite the fact that Bob Daisley was the man in charge of Ozzy's hits of the 80's, the last great album was No More Tears... and it was composed largely as a group (no, Daisley just played the bass on that album). I must say, from this record I liked "Parasite", "One of Those Days", "Mr. Darkness" (until the crappy ending which disrupted the flow) and "Degradation Rules"

I'm not sure Ozzy has made a "canonically important" album since no More tears. Meltdown is much easier on him than i am. I bare him no hate or malice or ill-will -- I just listen to Black Sabbath instead.

Iron Maidens new albums are still part of their story. I guess that may be too niche of a lense to consider music though.

But beyond that, I don't know how important that stuff is, just because they're an old/legacy band. I mean, I love maiden too, but I don't listen to them much past Brave new World and I don't really listen to the 90s albums either. I think most people who are not *huge fans* will always go for the classics first rather than take in an artist's entire discography. Dno't get me wrong, I love Black Sabbath, but it's not necessarily because of Ozzy, it's because of the four guys in synnergy.

Actually the last time I saw him live(2018) he sounded great. I understand what you're saying about his voice, believe me I've heard damn near everything recorded (professionally and amateur) by Ozzy, and for awhile I was sure he was done, but I'm telling you (at least before his recent health problems) the man sounded A1. I'm a life long Ozzy fan (...much older then you...lol) but I do agree with much of what you said about the new album. BUT....I totally disagree with your assessment of Ozzy's vocals versus his vocals on the 'Ordinary Man' album. To me the vocals on 'Ordinary Man' are the worst by far on anything Ozzy has done....it's not even close. I'll will concede this, I've only listened to each song a few times so far (...except the earlier released singles). So it is possible my opinion might change. But I doubt it. The vocals on the 'Patient Number 9' album are, by far, much better then on 'Ordinary Man'.....end of story.

Say what you will about Ozzy's voice. This is his best work since 13. He made a record I can listen too. He's made a few I don't really care for. But Patient Number 9 has my ear. I hope he rocks till he drops because he ain't good at sitting down and vacationing.

I really enjoyed your review. You made a lot of good points. Only thing is I wanna chime in from someone who's first Ozzy records were Scream and Black Rain. I grew up on the auto tuney sound of Ozzy's voice to the point where going back and listening to the older stuff was harder to like. I now am a Ozzy super fan and appreciate all his work. So from the perspective of someone who grew up on the Ozzy vocals, I personally think he sounds amazing and great. But I can understand your point also of him being roboty. It was an amazing review man

Interesting perspective. My musician uncle introduced me to Ozzy when he was still in BS, and then I followed him in his solo career. I lost interest after _The Ultimate Sin,_ but _Ordinary Man_ rekindled my interest. I love this new album just as much or better than OM. Pitch correction doesn't much faze me, so I don't understand why it matters to others. Everyone uses it to some extent.

I grew up with Black Sabbath and all of Ozzy's solo stuff because my Dad always liked his music. Definitely appreciated the sound of his voice on the older stuff, but the newer stuff never bothered me much either since that's what was new from him in my childhood. I think that Ordinary Man and Patient Number 9 are by far his best albums after 2000. Also, while auto tune might be more present in these past couple albums, I feel like distortions of his voice and effects of that sort aren't as frequent as they were on Black Rain and Scream, which sounds so much better to me. He's still kickin and, to me, blowing his 2000s albums out of the water.
