Out of all the videos I've seen of his stand up this is probably his best. It shows how even the greatest have their bad days, but can still make the most of it so its never really a 'bad day'...
@@jumpinjohnnyrussI'll tell you why I love it. besides the level of confidence you must have to walk out to an audience that seemingly doesn't care that you're there and the first thing you do is insult them. It's a great way to grab their attention, It's quite in character for patrice's igaf attitude, and frankly it's just funny.
+setaBC Yeah, but he was on a little bit of a less comedic rant for a while, which was interesting but wasn't all that hilarious, I loved it but didn't laugh a shit ton. That was my take on it at least, peace
@@collybeans586 that made absolutely no sense at all. But I can tell you're Caucasian and I can tell you're lonely from just that comment. Guys like u are the worst. You can't ever get a comment to get attention so u try to pick little internet bullshit with people who do. Grow the fuck up, Chad
I like that you liked his comment and felt the need to tell him that you like his comment... So I liked your comment and am now telling you that I liked your comment because I feel the need to tell you that I liked your comment informing the person that you liked their comment.

***** Those people should never be allowed to enter the door/die in a hot fire. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's as bad as that dumb twat heckler who got upset about Tosh doing a rape joke. Over-sensitive, self-involved, navel gazing, unfunny dick mittens.
***** you are out of your element. Don't try to do funny, don't even try to do smart. You're a miserable failure at both. Legends of comedy have teared their audiences to shreds. It's all part of doing hundreds of shows a year. but try to call people who know comedy stupid, it's adorable. and type 'fuck' more too, you come off really cool and tough when you do that as well. move along puddin' pop
***** anyone with common sense should know there is a probability that a comedian will call you out. If a person doesn't want to be put on the spot never go to a comedy show.
Years ago when I was young and living in Seattle I took some acid. I walked out of a concert. Went home. And looked up Aries Spears. For whatever reason I came across this clip. Went on to trip and watch 6 hours of Patrice O’Neal laughing my ass & crying. One of the greatest trips of my life
Supreme confidence and not giving a fuck. Two of Patrice's best attributes as a comedian and a guy. Some of those awful people in that crowd had no idea how lucky they were to see Patrice live.
@@mosesmeer4501 it wasn’t a great set, let’s just be honest. Starting off your set by saying you can be friendly and go boop boodoop is pretty corny. It’s more historic bc you can see his personality was destined for comedy even if he didn’t have the technique down yet
There wasn't a lot of people in the audience. In a comedy club the last comedian on stage was the one that was just getting their start. This was probably around 12 AM, people are drunk, a lot of people are leaving or have left, so not many people are into it at this point, but Patrice kept on going with no hesitation. Bernie Mac talked about all of his failures when he began comedy, but he never gave up. I wonder how many great comedians we never got to see because they gave up when the crowd wasn't into it.
There are no great comedians who gave up. Being a great comedian is more than just being funny or having good jokes. Part of it is being able to perform. Giving up is the opposite of performing.
@@mercyluka614 if you are honest then fine. If this is cynical remark you are wrong. Patrice him self after talked about bombing. Happend to him like everyone else only he never tried to win the crowd back. As he said people are corrupt, crocked. It's a power move. They would be "oh this piece of shit is dieing up there, I should step on his neck and choke him..." So his thing was " naaa, I am talking all of you with me and bombes even harder. With that O'Neill coolness and I don't give a fuckness.

@@BubsTheBoy whatever dude. Not everyone makes it. Doesn’t mean they weren’t great. It’s always the people who haven’t accomplished shit that try to put these people down.
Yeah he used some of the same jokes at later acts and his timing and delivery gets better. I guess this is what comedians do to try out their jokes and see what works with the audience. The bits with the “lady hit by the train” and “fish without eyebrows” are hilarious at later shows
@@zahkeem94 we kill fish/animals because we don't care about them, their lives are insignificant to our own. Aliens coming down and hunting us while we plead for our lives using family as an out is the same thing.
My god what a great comic he was. He just didn't flinch. Most comics with cynical stuff with some mean in there, they giggle a bit, sort of apologize. Patrice just did his thing.
You can tell that Patrice was new to comedy at this point in his life. He's not rapid firing his jokes like he did later in his career. In this old video, he's waiting and thinking of what to say next. It's horrible, but this is how you learn what works and what doesn't.
The ending though ... “laugh all you want , well make more.” Not like Patrice you won’t . Thanks for the laugh big dawg you’re helping me through some things god bless
Oh I love him so much!! A true comedic genius!! Wish he were still alive. R.I.P. you beautiful soul!!!! I always cry at the end of every video I watch of him. Even the ones I have watched over and over. I listen to him on "Slacker" also. His comedy never gets old! I can just imagine the material he would be doing now if he were stilll alive! Uhhhhh! I'll stop here with much respect for this great man. There are a few things of interest going on here. Firstly, he lobs a couple grenades into the crowd to see what he's up against. When the reaction is anywhere from slightly amused to indifferent, he fires a couple surgical strikes at the ones who appear to display the most resistance to his comedy style. Once the audience is "weeded out" & adequately acquainted with the Patrice treatment, he goes into his set. And since this crowd is clearly pretty sparse & only mildly engaged, Patrice knows he can throw down low-hanging fruit & try out material that he's still trying to polish. Any other comedian might get panicked & start trying his/her best bits & fool-proof zingers. Not Patrice. He takes this opportunity to work on his material and experiment on ideas he's developing. Folks, this is a comedian's classroom and Patrice is taking full advantage of it. This is really interesting to see. What a pro!
Anyone that has ever preformed in-front of a crowd sees the genius of this. I am not afraid of boring and angry crowds but they drag my energy down and mess me up. Patrice actually doesn't seemed bothered and is feeding off there hate.
You have no idea how difficult it was to work that crowd and recover from insulting the dude at the beginning and him getting emotional and walking out.
