Yeah, I related hard to that. New years is coming up and now I'm gonna be imagining people watching me in a movie as i stay at home by myself playing video games and masturbating lol.
Scary episode this one. They're talking about how the internet could help people remember Patrice and here I am almost seven years after his death listening to him. Such an introspective, intelligent legend. RIP
The beginning of this one is a little eerie in hindsight. Patrice was so underrated but his voice will live on on the internet, thanks to people such as Weston4020.
aeroces7 Good point. I would've loved to see how Patrice would react to the whole Anthony incident. I doubt FOX would've had him back on to defend funny ha
Every time I hear Patrice I crack up and feel terrible at the same time. Dude was so god damn funny. I remember shortly after he passed, Louie CK was saying Patrice was just really starting to click on his stand up act, because he felt Patrice was better on this show than he was with his stand up (I agree for the most part). If Patrice was alive today, I think he would probably be one of the biggest acts in the country.
Its definitely the remembering Patrice clip. The Patrice we all loved from the show, wouldn't have been the same entity if he became mainstream. Unless someone was willing to give him a pass, and would have allowed him to remain true to himself. The man was easily one of, if not the most naturally funny collection of atoms ever assembled. With respect to all the famous comedians, none of them held a candle to him when he was clicking on all cylinders. Patrice was gifted with being naturally funny, as if it was his acquired superpower at birth. There is a reason why people on here listen to his OnA audio on a loop, for years on end, continuously. Its not just his effortless humor, but the fact that he never let himself become phony, which was a detriment to his life, career, and net worth. No one could blame him if he decided to become mainstream, while losing his raw and real opinions. But he just couldn't do so, because he felt like he was betraying the people who loved him for who he was, and what they loved him for, which was his truth and comedy genuis unfiltered. Whether you believe he was right or wrong, he was fucking real.
Man, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but I feel like Patrice was a kindred spirit. Truly somebody I have never met that I will always miss. RIP Patrice.
+HittokiriBatosai Eh some people would go "How DARE you ever, try to compare yourself on equal standing to Patrice, possibly even considering yourself kindred to him in any way". Is my point.
I see what you mean, but that's ridiculous he's not a deity he was just a man. By his own tongue, "I ain't happy! I'm just a nigga getting through life."
I stumbled upon this man on accident. I listen to these old O&A clips over and over again. Patrice has been my psychologist and ive taken his insight and ran with it. This dude was a prophet without even realizing it. The knowledge he wouldve put into todays current events would so refreshing. Long live the King PATRICE ONEAL!
I hear people say that ALOT and I'm not disagreeing at ALL but rather 2 say I think the time change doesnt matter that much. Realkt Everything hes said is TIMELESS. We have HOURS AND HOURS of his takes on stuff. So you can take things he said and apply them still.
18:40 You definitely changed the way I see the world, more than any other human being have. So you did leave your mark. Patrice is one of the greatest men that ever walked this earth in my opinion and he didn't even know it.
I was 17 when I found OA in 2000. I never stopped listening. I consider these guys my uncles. I turned my youngest brother onto Patrice when he was having laaaaady troubles. Now he doesn't sweat bitches and we quote Patrice all day. Tell the truth Bonia, tell the motherfuckin truth.
I’m so grateful for the Net bc of this very reason. I am 39 and Patrice will be immortal to me my whole life (hopefully mid 90s in the nursing home), laughing at “It’s raining stuff” and him cursing out Kathleen Roll on The Black Phillip Show while making the other women angry by saying “Men are better than you!” 😂😂😂
Rest in Peace Mr. P. You did your job. You completely stomped a mudhole in the ass of the world of comedy and the people that miss you miss you greatly.
Patrice discussing his fear of death so close to him actually dying is pretty sad. Weston4020, if you ever read this, you should add the Remembering Patrice show as the final part of this playlist.
The few episodes leading up to this before the holidays Patrice did not want to leave the show so fast. He mentioned he was lonely even. Hearing the start of this show.. he knew his time was near. Him saying he wasted 18 years. Man I know he was probably being hard on himself, but still it kinda chokes you up a bit.
Depression makes people think like that, he mentioned a few instances where he could've killed himself (in a long way he did via bad diet, raw lasagna wtf patrice lol). Even tho he had a great life, a strong legacy, all conquered with his own strengh and power of will. He still felt lonely. I think it was due to his frustration with the business, life insights and women, he had not enough peers to share and debate his level of philosophy.
Hard to listen to this in parts. Patrice never realised that the O&A shows were his legacy. They have became a ten year stand up routine into his mind. You are missed and remembered always, Sir. I hope you know this now.
"You are missed and remembered always, Sir. I hope you know this now." Damm right, I'd like to think that he is having more fun seeing everything from the greatest perspective and pissing off all the fakers in the beyond with his logic :D
I'd bet Opie didn't really want Patrice to have his own show for the company, and wouldn't be shocked if he actively campaigned to stop it from happening. Wanted to stick with him being on his show so he would get the credit.
Opie deserves alot of animosity but he was the biggest force in trying to get him his own show and got him a shot with the black phillip show. Anthony confirmed this a few times.
Opie was big into franchising the show. He wanted to create an empire of associated acts and shows connected to O&A. He just doesn’t have the required business acumen and temperament to control a bunch of comedians.
I really needed to hear this.....needed a reminder of the risks we take to make a living from your passion. It is a thankless and frustrating choice...and even makes those close to you question and criticize your journey / lifestyle. In the end, it's OUR life...and we know what we're chosen to do. Thank you Patrice....love and miss you Man.....we're living for YOU Big guy.
Bobby turning Patrice's enthusiasm line on him was hilarious. Rest in Peace Dr O'neal and rest in Peace sexy Bobby, he's never gonna be in shape again.
I love these, I had thought there was 170 until this point, and now feel like 30 were robbed from me. I'm seriously debating on just quitting now, and coming back to these whenever and finish them later just to save the rest and rediscover them. Prob not, as I have no self control and these episodes are addictive, I haven't listened to podcasts since I found them. On a lighter note, Patrice killed me when he said "...shave my mustache" omg that shit is funny. RIP Patrice O'Neal.
It is sad but someone in the comments in an older episode made a great point 144 is so much you will forget a lot of it over time so it has great replay value !!
Patrice may have just convinced me to move back home. My parents are older, having had me at 39 (I’m 25 now). I have always thought that the most important thing to me was “doing it” on my own. Being successful with no help. Now I’m realizing that in 10-15 years they are going to need my help more. It may be worth while really starting my career at home so by the time I’m able to make real money, I’m also around my parents to help take care of them as they get older.
I think the stigma of living with your parents after a certain age plays a large part in why some people feel the need to leave. Everyones situation is different and unique, so what will work for some, wont work for others. Plus, in reality, family is all we got in this world that really means anything, whether related or not.
@@adlalamb6229 I did. Stayed with them for 6 months. Got my own apartment after. Live within 20 mins of both my parents as well as my brother and his family. Happy I made the move. Just so happened to get a job that also makes me essentially pass their home every day to work and back, so I’m able to help after work when they need me to.
Kick ass "The film's final gross in the U.S. was $48,071,303 and $48,117,600 outside of the U.S. with a worldwide gross of $96,188,903" Partice O'neal was close
Patrice I never knew of your existence until you had been gone about 4 or 5 years and yet every time I get to the final episodes in this playlist (my fourth run through now) I cry like a baby because you're gone. I never knew you and yet I think about you often and feel a real loss that you're gone.
Wish Patrice could see these comments and see how much people appreciate him and his perspective. I know he got a lot of love from the O&A listeners, but I wish he could see that he did leave a mark and his legacy lives on through a channel based solely on his appearances on the show.
About 8 years ago this episode made me go to my Dr and actually control my diabetes with medication and working out. I literally was just waiting to die in the back of my head and today I'm 41 sad as hell because Patrice didn't have to go out like that.
"(Sigh) Because I don't want to hurt my friends enTHUUUsiasm.." LMAO LMAO 1:36:40 "And does he still have that Hulk Hogan hair?.... So he's just walking around with Hulk Hogan hair?!" LMAO LMAO 2:19:53
Introverted grinch...goodness this guy is so extremely right. Not that we dont wanna be around people, but that sense of loneliness is extremely important.
I hate in biopics where the person is about to reach another level and then dies, it seems phony and forced to me. With Patrice that was definitely the case, you can feel he was just about to figure out and adjust to what he had to do to get that fame, it's a real bummer.
duckduckmoose Not if you followed that NYC crew since the early 00's. You saw the O&A crew *all* over TV for years. Louis explained how he ate network dick at first, to get started. Current climate aside, you saw the results. Patrice admitted that's how he should've approached it. He repented those actions in his last year or two which propelled him amongst the general public. It was sadly too late.
31:29-31:49 I can absolutely relate to that. The only difference is that I'll fast forward to the end to see the finish of the scene to decide if I want to watch it or not. That's why it takes me HOURS to find something.
1:54:23 Holy shit, I have been trying to remember the name of that movie "Star 80" ever since my latch key kid years when it came on cable. Thanks Patrice Oneal.
Someone who is a animation wizard needs to animate the first 35 minutes of this I think this is pat's greatest moment on o & a ever so much legendaryness
I think it's just lovely that the Sheen Roast thing behind Uncle P has FIFA 12 advertising on it and he hated football. I mean soccer. I mean football.
