Most of the jokes on Golden Girls I saw were just old women talking about sex, and since it was the 80's, that was new and edgy. Not much different than the hack women comedians of today.
@@Spootnik well it is an "Oh you!" sitcom so in the 80s-early 90s, old women talking about sex would've gotten over. Even then that concept can get over today
I use to be like Anthony. I hated Golden Girls cause I thought the show was a certain way, but then I gave it a chance and it won me over. It was one of the first shows to have a cynical take on the 80s sitcom.
Golden Girls was a funny show. What made it funny was that they talked so much trash to each other and the lines were pretty brutal. I don't think that middle aged dudes were their target demographic, but it was still pretty funny.
That's how retarded society is at the moment, none of the shows are funny anymore. You wouldn't get away with roasting each other like they did back then and that's what made the show appealing.
Estelle's/Sofia's best zingers. Blanche and Sofia fighting over the same guy, and Blanche interrupt Sofia and the guys date and Sofia says: "BEAT IT you 50yr old mattress!". Blanche says, "I'm going to take bath with just enough water to cover my bosom". Sofia replies, "You're only going to sit in an inch of water?!"
Patrice told it like it was in his mind. He didn't hold back. But he truly understood the art of comedy. And to be honest.. Most men who say they didn't like golden girls, are just hiding behind their own pride. That show definitely had some really good comedy in it. And even Patrice appreciated it. And he didn't back away from what he likes just because others were convincing him to NOT like it.
I didn't start watching Golden Girls until a few years ago, and I wasn't even born when it came out and too young to watch when it was running. And it is one of the funniest shows that holds up today that I've ever seen. It was a show full of zingers and killed every time. It was funnier than Friends and Will & Grace. I laughed watching Golden Girls just as much as I laughed watching All in the Family and The Jefferson's.
Ant is wrong on this one!! Sofia and Blanche were the best! Trust me single old people date!! Also, they are the best because they don’t give AF and say the funniest shit. Some of the best insults I’ve heard, I got from elderly people.
That show, old Simpsons, married with children, third rock from the sun was the funniest shows I've ever seen in my 30 years of living old Simpsons was so well written they would take one joke and rework it 30 times Conan O'Brien wrote for that fucking thing epic.

I'm only 3 minutes in, but I'm guessing they're not gonna play clips from the episode where Sophia keeps accidently getting Social Security checks. Probably the funniest episode I can remember. I doubt they'll use that one as an example anyway though, because for the first half of the episode she's just in the background silently counting cash without anyone knowing why. I don't care what anyone says, such a great show

Golden girls was 1000x funnier than Opie ever was. Ant was funny before his racial paranoia ratcheted up. But I disagree with him golden girls is great

If two great comics (Patrice and Jimmy) are both saying The Golden Girls is good comedically, then Anthony and Opie should’ve been wise enough to not argue with them.

Typical that Patrice would get what was (occasionally) clever on The Golden Girls (i.e., writing, performance) while the rest of the so-called "funny men" in the room sat there being dismissive. That's why he was a genius while those guys...
I didn't listen to O&A when they were on, but 2 years ago I started listening to clips when Patrice & Bill Burr guest starred on the show. Every clip, Anthony sounds cunty about something inane, and I now understand why he keeps a gun on him. Because if he said 1/2 the shit he says on the radio in person, he'd definitely get his teeth knocked clean the fuck out. Oh, and Golden Girls was a good show, even now.😂
