You could ask either of those 2: Either Azumah Nelson or Wilfredo Gomez what their best weight was. When Gomez went up he was defeated by Sanchez. Nelson went up and fought Pernell Whitaker. Pedroza went up and didn't lose for a very long time. Maybe it can be deduced by the results what a fighters prime or ideal weight is. Roberto Duran, what was his ideal weight? 135. He fought at 140 ( overweight of course ) and that was his lone loss for many years. Then he kinda took his time acclimatizing to 147, careful not to look too good. He faced Leonard in what was probably the last fight that he was truly Roberto Duran. At that time he was 72-1, with the one loss being out of his weight. It takes time, especially fighting top-notch competition. Duran adapted well; against Carlos Palomino, absolutely dominated him. We re talking about a Hall Of Fame calibre fighter who basically makes his name and career at one weight but when he did go up, he stayed there long enough to acclimatize to it, although he was only 28-in years, rounds and experience he could have retired after Leonard 1. Ok back to Pedroza. Now after this knockout to Zamora, that was his 3rd loss. The decision was apparently the right one although maybe the exception to the rule.
Thank you coach strout I've been waiting for this for a long time always heard so much about this fight now I'm finally going to get to see it thank you so much for sharing
Patrick Ford ...I was only 16 years old when he fought Sanchez which was a great fight for Ford and then Pedroza which was another spectacular fight if, it was a 12 round title fight he would have won it quite easily he was leading on points but, he became tire at the end of the 13 round .we all know that Patrick Ford was an active boxer In the ring.May his Soul Rest in Peace .He Made Guyana proud. 👍
I actually met someone who was related to Patrick Ford ! Patrick Ford was the uncle of Darius Ford. Lucky Darius Ford is living a happy life with his wife and as my math teacher if you met him he would be the best teacher you've ever known! - 9/2/2022
A dominant victory by the great champion Eusebio Pedroza. In this fight he displayed his enormous boxing skills and talent. He was a COMPLETE FIGHTER in my view that didn't get the proper props from the American boxing press. I believe that if he would have met the great Salvador Sanchez here, he would have won. What a great fighter was Pedroza, the Panamanian Scorpion.
Eusebio Pedroza was defeated by Alfonso Zamora (1976) in bantamweighht. Zamora was an aggressive boxer but technically bad He was world champion of fatherweight by WBA secondary and minor league. Lost to a bad Irish boxer. Sal Sanchez would have made it a mess
@@moisesvazquezmartinez9673 Pedroza was a green boxer at the time he fought Alfonso Zamora. At 118lbs, he looked too fragile at that weight. But, when Pedroza jumped up to featherweight, he was much more stronger and had sturdier legs. He was also much more seasoned as a professional at featherweight. Pedroza beat Jorge Lujan who knocked out Zamora.
Thank you for the upload. Now that's what I call a fight. Two highly conditioned and well skilled boxers going at it. Ford was slightly over matched, but gave it what he had.
Aright mate, I have loved watching your high quality vintage fights, especially the Salvador Sanchez ones. Do you have Sanchez vs Lopez I? Or any other Sanchez bouts?
PANAMA HAD a pad of Boxers you could choose your favorite but we were short of punchers besides DURAN we had PEPPERMINT FRAZER PANAMA AL BROWN but to my own experience beside Duran i Fear the liver punch of MIGUEL RIASGO i saw him hit LEOPOLDO CAMPBEL this guy fold so to speak like putting your dressing on HANJER took a while for him to strech out fully much lees to stand up..... EUSEBIO PEDROZA WAS LIKE TO ME in is work out i never want to mist i could sit there n watch these guys work out all day only thing you only get 2 hrs... honestly i never though he would come this far thruw his delicate chin.but God knows as you guys seen he madeit up with his skill n experience MY LORD I FORGET ANOTHER HITTER RODOLFO FRANCIS Y N MIGUEL IS A TASK BEHIND DURAN AS PUNCHERS...MAY PEDROZA REST IN PEACE N MAY PANAMA MAKE A STATUE IN IS HONOR WELL DESERVE.....
This is like Moore-Duran... Perdroza, switching it up, between inside- outside, but the sheer volume of vicious body punches...led to the obvious end...
@@harryheath7728in addition he fought probably two of the highest calibre champions within the division in back-to-back fights. Weight drain is probably the greatest performance-inhibiting factor for a fighter. It's too bad: that fight against Sanchez was a bit lackluster but Ford was given a good plan and stuck to it. From a competitive standpoint, it was very close but Sanchez deserved the win. Ford was just unlucky...weight-drained, in Pedrozas back yard-and Pedroza had a much better corner than Sanchez, too. They knew how to tactically adjust in-fight ( as you should).
Smokey is right; Cosell was a little off on analyzing Sanchez, who, by the way beats Pedroza ; Why ? On the chin check , Sanchez was hard 2 hit and if u did, u couldn't hurt him, and in his pursuit to knock Sanchez out he gets blasted by Sanchez's counterpunching , keeping in mind Pedroza had a history of being knocked out , though in his defense that was before he got his act together ; Sanchez had more room 4 improvement ; he was too smart , speedy, precise, and powerful to be beaten by anyone , including Arguello
It's a close fight either way, but I think that Pedroza edges Salvador. When Eusebio was knocked out, it was at Bantamweight. And if Salvador moved up to fight Arguello, he gets beat. Alexis was more proven at the weight. Davis Jr, Kenty, Mancini, and Rosario would beat Sanchez. Ford was probably at the wrong weight, needed to move up to lightweight, where he could have an advantage except maybe Davis jr. and Kenty and possibly Arguello.
@@Belburg u make some good points ; I loved Arguello btw as much as Sanchez and though we differ on the outcome of him ( Sanchez) vs Pedroza , u may be right about the Arguello matchup, which I haven't thoroughly analyzed ; Arguello was lethal b4 he moving up 2 face Aaron Pryor ; one factor people may be forgetting is that Sanchez had a granite chin which is something to consider... good analysis A damn shame fans couldn't ' witness what the outcomes would have been ; great points on great fighters from a " golden era "
@@csracingreport2024 Alexis was definitely an all-time great, and you're right, Sanchez had that quality chin. It would have been a great fight while it lasted. Concerning Alexis, I think Saoul Mamby, with his skillset and experience, may have beaten Alexis as well. We were blessed to have witness these greats in action. A lot of politics as well.
@@Belburg it was interesting back in the WBC / WBA era , and maybe I'm WRONG but the IBF and all the other outfits started adding to mix of champions , though the NABF was around then ; I think Matthew Saad Muhammad beat Marvin Johnson the 1st time 4 that title b4 the 2nd battle , a classic btw , 4 for the bigger belt .. It made no sense that Sanchez & Pedroza didn't meet 2 unify , but I think they were about to after Sanchez was slated 2 meet Juan Laporte ; CORRECT ME if I'm off on that .. it's too bad @ the least after Sanchez, passed , that Arguello & Pedroza didnt fight each other , but fighters are on different paths , plus , as u mentioned , the politics factor in ..
@@timgonzalez342 zamora was a great bantamweight. I felt Pedrosa outgrew that weight class. Zamora caught him with good shot. If they were to fight in featherweight, Pedrosa wins. Those were early fights 3 losses in his career. He learned and got better.
