Bowie - what a gent. A complete rockstar and celebrity in his own right and he is in no way pulling focus or trying to gain attention. Hes just happy to be performing, legend.
@@stevepafford5501 I'm fascinated by how genuinely Bowie seemed to believe in the cause of Live Aid. In interviews afterwards he suggested that it should be an annual event.
I swear if i was in 1985 I will work very hard just to watch McCartney,Led Zeppelin, Queen, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Elton John, REO speedwagon, and many more ;-;
Comparing Queen to The Beatles is like comparing a shiny apple to a slightly more shiny apple with is The Beatles at least on my opinion! both bands are GREAT!!!
Just thinking of Live Aid 1985 - Im getting chills. Can you imagine Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Queen, U2, The Who, Dire Straits, Phil Collins, Elton John, George Michael, Led Zeppelin, Bob Geldof on the same concert at the same time??? And thats just Wembley part - as in US part we have Mick Jagger, Madonna, Tom Petty, Tina Turner, Black Sabbath, Bryan Adams, Eric Clapton and may many more I dont remember! That mustve been the best gig in a history.
Paul was still the biggest star to take the stage at live aid, even with all the artists there. I’m not saying he had the best performance (obviously Queen did) or that he was even the most popular at the time, but he’s freaking Paul McCartney. A legend, an icon, a god. So glad he’s still with us 🙏🏼
Paul McCartney was singing to himself for nearly 2 minutes until 1:57 when the sound engineers finally switched McCartney's microphone and everyone scream because they finally hear it.
So how do we hear it? We are not listening to macca monitor. We are listening the main out speakers. you clearly can hear the reverb of the big stadium since the beginning
3:14 was the moment everybody thought a Beatles Reunion is happening. Even the TV commentator in Philadelphia totally lost it until they realised that "George" and "Ringo" were Geldof and Townshend. Lol But it would have been the most epic fuckin' shit ever :D
Who else thinks that The Beatles would have been the best in Live Aid (tied with Queen) if they played all together. It would have been better than the Led reunion. Unfortunately, for some crazy reason, one of them was dead at that point.
@@nicolasnunez4701 they could start with Revolution , Let It Be , Something , all you need is love , maybe something from the early years ...and they finish with Hey Jude imagine all wembley singing that famous Na Na Na ...they could top queen easily
@@anarchybreed - You sure can. This version is a lot more tidy vocally anyway, compared to even when the mic did come back on. Everything else you hear (like the piano, for example) is still taken from the night. Only the vocals were re-recorded.

Crazy to realize he has been a performer so long that he's seen the rise, fall and even the loss of some amazing acts that he inspired in his time, and the fact he's lasted all these years himself so strongly is such a blessing.
Who knows? To be fair I think Paul's voice gradually became weaker. It would have been amazing though to have had more Beatles songs. Wonder if the quality would have faded
I don't think so. Would have been too big. They would have stolen the scene to the others and that event wasn't about egos,it was about something else,it was about giving a helping hand, something people don't do anymore nowadays...do they?
I remember that concert like yesterday, I was a senior in high school and I thought I was late seeing great artists because I didn't get to see them in the 60s, now at 57 I know that I seen then in their prime and I'm the lucky one, I witnessed concerts throughout late 70s and 80s and 90s people can only dream about!
How amazing is this concert? Queen, Paul Mccartney, Elton John, George Michael, and David Bowie! That is amazing as helllll. Also, imagine if Lennon was still alive and the beatles got to perform. That would be even amazing! May Freddie, Bowie, and George rest in peace.
Don’t underestimate Macca’s vocal range. Check out songs like Monkberry Moon Delight, Golden Slumbers, Long Tall Sally, etc. and contrast them with something like For No One or Mother Nature’s Son. The man had pipes and a lot of range.
No one in the audience could hear his microphone until 1:58. That's why they went nuts when one of the stagehands found the problem and plugged it back in.
Even though I am a huge Beatles fan, I just knew that McCartney was part of Live Aid because the Queen movie mentioned him +) Also thanks to everyone letting me know that I’m not a huge fan. I never knew that I needed an approval from random arrogant youtube comments with unnecessary pride in their knowledge! I guess ten years of being a fan just isn't enough?
This song means a world to Paul McCartney,......... He wrote this song when his mother who have passed away when his 14 visited him in his Dream and She Said "JUST LET IT BE,PAUL""" 😭😭😭😭😭😭
OK, after some decades of puzzlement over the lyric "let it be" I now hear it as "Let it be like that" - in other words, "Let it be done" / "Let there be an answer" - not as in "Leave it alone, don't do anything about it."
Lol. That's sadly funny if you look at it like that. Elvis Costello sings All You Need is love, Brian Ferry sings Jealous Guy, Dire Straights with Sting perform Money for Nothing, Elton chimes in with I'm still Standing and later Paul tells everyone to just Let It Be. 😁
I mean if you make it a trascendental meaning then you'll surely find an excuse to make that fit in with the whole theme but lol I hadn't even noticed that XD
The amazing thing is none of them were the most talented at their instruments. There were better singers than paul and john, better bassists then paul, better guitarists then george, and better drummers then ringo. The reason why the beatles are amazing is how good of songwriters they were and that's why they are the greatest band of all time
THIS is the best Live Aid perfomance. Such a great atmosphere. Night sky, the gentle sound of piano and spectacular Macca's voice. And also such a nice interaction with the crowd and with other great artist. Breathtaking.
In an alternate universe, John was alive and the Beatles agreed to play this show. Their set list was: -Don’t Let Me Down -We Can Work It Out -While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Several famous guitarists trade solos) -Hey Jude -Imagine
Sorry, I guess I knows what you mean but the world was Not a better Place, do you remember the cold war, al the fears we wenn through bei that time? Ther where 2 men Who Had this phantastic Idea Midge Ure andBob Geldorf.
Having read so many comments on this page I have to state that although 'Queen' were the best act on the day at Live Aid - Sir Paul McCartney was the biggest star at the event. By 1985 the Beatles were the biggest selling music act in history. 'Queen' regard the Beatles as one of their biggest influences. 'Queen' were huge fans of the Beatles. 35 years after 'Live Aid' Sir Paul is still having critically acclaimed and hit selling solo albums. His last album McCartney III went straight in at No1 on the UK charts Xmas 2020. His previous album 'Egypt Station' went straight in at No1 on the US charts. And the Beatles remain one of the biggest selling acts each year - despite having split up over half a century ago. Why? Because of those amazing songs.
Buzz Bates, at the time of the show, Dire Straits was the most popular. Geldof wanted them more than anyone else. He asked them first because he knew all the other acts who wouldn't commit would changed their minds if they knew Dire Straits would be there. At least that's what John Illsley said. Remember, this was the same year Brothers in Arms was released. The biggest selling CD in history at the time.
Freaking David Bowie casually doing backup singing for freaking Paul McCartney in Live Aid is what I freaking live for and I truly can't imagine what it must've felt being there.
I had always been fascinated by this man's musical talents. He gave us glory for so many years now that I don't even care to count. He will remain within us forever. FOREVER, FOREVER, FOREVEEEEEEER!!!!!!
paul mccartney, queen, david bowie, elton john,U2,led zeppelin and sting in 1 concert no wonder this is called the greatest concert of all time and as queen outshone everybody on this big stage they have the greatest ever live performance
Some context - this was Paul's first live performance since John Lennon was shot. All three Beatles were still very reclusive at the time. Which is why he gets such an unbelievable reaction, and also explains why he only did one song. Ringo and George both refused to attend, as they were still worried about their security, at such a high profile event. Lennon's death encouraged lots of copycats, and all three remaining Beatles received regular death threats throughout the 1980s.
I should have realised that but I didn't. I'm in the middle of watching the Britbox movie When Harvey Met Bob and I was pretty p***ed off with Paul that he had to be coerced into doing one song for Live Aid. Now I get it. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for Springsteen's excuse for not being there at all. I hope he regrets knocking back the greatest rock gig ever.
if John LENNON had appeared at live aid.you would have not needed any other band or singer, cos a beatles reunion at the stadium would have generated,(as bob geldof stated ) more money for africa then ALL of the rest of those at live aid put together, just the usa tv networks alone would have paid more then they raised through donations !
A partir de 1:58 a voz do Paul pode ser ouvida no estádio, após uma falha desde o início do canção, causando até vaias... Mas aí, vem a catarse! Que lindo.
I have a fantasy where in an alternate universe, halfway thru Let it be, John George and Ringo all come on stage and they immediately go into “Get Back” and the crowd obviously goes completely crazy. It hurts me that John was gone at this point, because this would have been The Beatles reunion and it would be one for the history books.
Totally unacceptable that the mic fail could have happened. I would have been checking and checking to ensure his mic and equipment was working properly for a performance of this magnitude. He was top of the bill after all, he had not been invited to make up the numbers.
This is the most precious moment ever filmed. Just watching this makes me want to travel in time and just be there... Just imagine how many memories this performance must have brought up for Paul.
As the song suggests, May we all JUST come together, let it be and gratefully receive the positivity of this once-in-a-lifetime event? Please remember that Live Aid 1985 was a BENEFIT music-based initiative to GIVE AID to hundreds of thousands of people starving to death in Ethiopia. That we are alive and able to watch and re-watch it in 2023 - isn’t that sufficient to the day without wishing the format or performances or whatever could be better ??? ☮️💟 and 🎼
@@gabrieltaieb6164 Great performance but he can do better. Bare in mind, he hadn't performed in 5 years because he'd become a recluse after the brutal death of his best friend, a guy called John Lennon.
I commented the same thing just imagine all the band's talking and then 2 door swing open and it's Paul McCartney. Everyone goes silent in shock completely wowed by seeing him. As Paul just looks at everyone give them nods and smiles
At 15 I thought: how many artists in solidarity with the poor, a couple of years later I realized how much publicity they had done for themselves. I immediately fell in love with musicians who hadn't performed at Live Aid. I think it was my first experience with human hypocrisy masquerading as solidarity.
"And when the night is cloud, there is still a light that shines on my. Shine until tomorrow, let it be. I wake up to tthe sound of music, mother mary comes to me" Ich kann nicht glauben dass diese musik ist unbekannt für manche Menschen
In a 1986 interview, Paul said that the mic went off at Wembley but it's on thru TV coverage, but the problem is Paul can't hear himself. To be able to basically hear nothing from himself and still perform this song is legendary as it shows his vocal chord knows every note, or at least every note in that tune.
I was there. Paul was having mike problems (you could only hear the piano) so Alison, Pete, Bowie and Bob came out to back him. I think Pete's had one too many haha, or his tumble on stage gave him quite a knock. They've edited this well.
This song is about a dream that he had about his mom. She came to him in a dream and told him that everything will be okay and to let it be. He was going through a rough time in his life.
Live Aid concert could only have happened in the 80s when there were still so many legends alive and performing. If they tried something like this with today's current artists it would be a shit show. Just the same reason this summers supposed 50th Woodstock tribute was scrapped, too many crappy artists scheduled to participate.
I love Paul McCartney. I love the Beatles. I wish we could have saw what it would have been like with the whole band, still alive and well. I guarantee it would have been at the top along with Queen. I love Queen also, I’m not comparing them I’m just saying seeing the whole band would be beyond amazing.
I love how chill Paul was about the others coming out and singing with him without him knowing there were technical difficulties, even if they clearly did not know what part of the song he was at lol.
But he DID know! He later joked by saying he had thought about changing the lyrics to "There will be some feedback, let it be." He is a true professional. He kept on going no matter what.
Alison did say that if she was going to perform a duet with anyone for a single and album track, she said it would be with David Bowie because and quote "Our voices would match up". Little did she know, that 1985 would be the only and closest time, they'd ever get to performing a 'duet'.
I think, actually i' m sure, this is the best version of let it be ever. I really love this song, the version from the album as well with a fantastic solo by the great George, but this one from live Aid is so special and even better than the previous. It' s so emotional, full of feelings, rich in dynamics and Paul seems to be really passionate to what he's doing there. He makes me cry every time i listen to this tune. Who agrees with me? Let me know pals, love you
