He's aged so well. I met him at a con once really friendly guy. I don't think there will be an 8th Doctor spin off on TV but we have all the audios to listen to so isn't that enough? If you can get BBC Radio 4 they've been broadcasting them.
No it’s never enough. I NEED my 8th doctor spin-off show. Idc if they just do adaptations of audio books or telling what led up to the time war, I just wanna see him back.
"I never forget a face" "I know you don't and in the years to come you might find yourself revisiting a few, but just the old favorites aye." and yes Paul McGann is a old favorite and still young enough to play the part.
I've had this idea for a Doctor Who Spinoff about the Time War, Called 'The Chronicle of the Time War" It would start with McGann's Doctor and he would stay as the Doctor for a season, while the time war begins, focusing on the doctor attempting to evade the Time Lords who want to bring him into the War. The first battle would take place on some Galifreyan colonial planets and then the full scale attack of Gallifrey itself. Throughout the first season the 8th doctor is trying to avoid the War. The First season would end with The Night of The Doctor. Then the 2nd season would be John Hurts Doctor fighting the Time War, the greatest battles we had heard of but not seen, The Time Lords attacking the Daleks and Skaro with weapons of the Omega Arsenal, the resurrection of the Master, the destruction of the Crucible, and the death of Skaro itself. All this would go on for another two seasons and the spin off would end with the events of The Day of The Doctor.
If Paul McGann was to reprise his role as the Doctor it would interesting if they did a movie or mini-series on how the Time War got started and leading to his regeneration too the 9th Doctor.
zippydude12345 I'm glad they used this one, because 8 never really used it in the TV Movie. It was only seen in the beginning of the movie where 7 used it.
It was all down to Russell T Davies really, why he never called Paul before he went and casted Chris out of nowhere is beyond me. Then there would've been no continuity gap. But as it stands now they're missing an opportunity to do at least one series of Paul McGann he's still young enough to do it and pass for the Doc much the same as he was 17 years ago it's a shame nobody in the industry seems serious about doing it. It wouldn't necessarily have to be 13 episodes either they could do 7 cut the cost and then make the 7 as good as the main series. I mean don't tell me the BBC don't make enough money off all the merchandise to support a second series anyway. If they're an organisation big enough to have 4 channels they can support a second series of a show that clearly makes them profit.
I read up on the WIkia page on the adventures the 8th doctor had and by god it was incredible. Having alien companions with adventures that are crazier than any other doctor. They REALLY need to turn these into a spinoff. It would be amazing!
10:55 been a few years since his departure now, and it's so gratifying to see the growing appappreciation for 12. ...8 are quickly becoming one of my favourites though, could be replacing 12 soon.
I think a lot of people would like it, but I can't see it happening for the same reasons Paul stated in this interview. They won't run two different Doctor Who shows within the same year. The budget would kill it for a start. I think there's more chance of a Two Doctors style double episode once Capaldi is settled in the role. But even that's a stretch.
***** August Kjærsgaard And he's very much respected for them from what I've read. I keep meaning to give some of them a go, but never get around to it. I need a time machine, preferably blue. If you see one hanging around let me know please.
During 1996 and after the failure of a series in FOX. McGann stated if the series would be green lighted. He had no intention in staying in the role. But unlike Eccleston, McGann still appear in conventions, Big Finish and appeared again as the Doctor. It was funny to see McCoy, his predecessor walk behind him!
The 1996 movie was shown only once. That was odd. The USA TV networks usually repeat shows and movies all the time. Somebody at FOX must have not liked making a commitment.
I love Paul, he’s so down to earth and chill about it. For years I was all ‘they didn’t give him a proper chance’ and ‘he deserves more screen time’ but we have had 5 other great incarnations of the Doctor since then and with the addition of the war doctor instead of 9 returning in DH50 I was at first annoyed because I was like, give us Eighth Doctor if Nine isn’t going to return! Then we blessed with John Hurts Doctor, and boy that was awesome, I have to say I’m happy for what little we did have screen wise. Paul was a great choice for his time but the world wasn’t as interested in Doctor who then, post BBC cancellation and pre New Who. Anyway, we got the Big finish audio stories, which are fantastic though, Paul sells it like a tv episode. if any of you haven’t listened to them, you must. They are brilliant! :)
If they don't do a spin-off tv series off 8, which they won't, they could at least do a few seasons of webisodes that are like episodes. I love the audio dramas, but I would still love for Paul to have his much deserved screen time as the doctor. It would only have to be a few seasons and they could run and fill in the gap between each new season of doctor who. So please BBC, give us proper eighth doctor episodes!
Two very different approaches to costume with McGann and Whittaker, where Paul had little say in his costume design and had two great ones while Jodie apparently came up with hers herself. I only came back for that smooth Liverpudlian McGann voice.
There is a 6 to 12 month gap between Series. That is plenty of time for a special movie starring Paul as the 8th Doctor to be shown without conflicting with the "current" show. This is about a Space and Time Traveler.
There must be some way to make him appear in the official series. Possibly as Capaldi gets some Flashbacks to memories he has from his 8th regeneration. I'd really love to see Paul as the doctor and you can clearly see that he cares alot about a proper story for his appearances. He's great!
In the future series' we need an 8th or 9th (or maybe war doctor) appearance, maybe a cameo or even there for a whole episode that would be brilliant! Since the three had really short times as the doctor and because they're all amazing actors it's unjustified. So if one of them is willing to do that BBC get on it!
Imagine a spin off series starting with the 6th doctor (I know but hold on) through the beginning of 9 I mean just think of it all the doctors with the lest screen time get more
I wish he would've been the Doctor in the 50th Anniversary or the reboot of the series, I know he'd done the Big Finnish audiobooks but I felt he gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to Doctor Who.
Here is an idea. One of villians changes Doctors past at his 8th regeneration, and one of the companions get stuck back in there with him but not at exact time and tries to redirect him at right way and change it at right way and when it's all done we get at Capaldi's ending and he regenerates into new doctor. Would be more intresting than poping new numbers and faces every so often.
It's strange Paul hasn't come back very much since doing the TV Movie, why it took the 50th Anniversary to bring him back for a 6-minute prequel. I always worry with these things that the reality of it is something decided by one person or very few people, like why don't they change the Daleks or Cybermen or why don't past Doctors come back at least once. Or why Paul can't have his own televised spinoff, like a TV version of Dark Eyes or something. That the reasons are horribly political and arbitrary, not up to the majority of viewers who are fans, but some fat balding executive who insists he's an expert on television and people won't understand or won't accept two Doctors at once. But then it hits me, listening to Paul, that the actors who play the Doctor are often far too shy and humble about it to put themselves forward for it, they don't want to toot their own horn about it. It's easy to us to say, yes, Paul McGann was great as the Doctor and should come back ASAP in some form. But we can't expect him to be noisy about it... it has to come to him, the idea and the script and the BBC all being behind it. And incidents of that, like Night of the Doctor, are really rare. So I wouldn't want to ask Paul to get it off the ground by himself, and break whatever personal code he has as an actor. Maybe that has something to do with British acting culture, as opposed to America, that you're expected just to get on with it quietly and not bump into the furniture. But the Five-ish Doctors was them getting fed up with being asked by fans about the 50th all the time and not getting to be involved with it, so Peter Davison got it together to make a special of their own because he's able to do that sort of thing. So I think if enough people who can produce, write, direct and make it get together, it'd be possible to see Paul's Doctor on screen again. If Steven Moffat wasn't busy writing Doctor Who AND Sherlock, or something... it's sorta like waiting for the perfect storm of circumstances and even coincidences, to happen. It's really rare. But if it wasn't we probably wouldn't appreciate it as much.
It would have to be a spin-off, set just before the time war started. I'd have McGann playing the Doctor trying to prevent the time war, and actually see him lose for once, and have to deal with failure. Would really improve the 8th Doctor's legacy.
2024 needs a mcgann season if its just one like Eccleston and it's an older version's final adventures before the regeneration. Would probably be better than half the New Series (at this point).
Paul was all over film at one time....makes me feel old. His brothers are all clones. Paul needs to produce big time. I just saw Dunkirk...it's was okay...a director film...we need writers... Paul!....find a good project! Forget the doctor...he needs a Sherlock Holmes script. He'd be a great Holmes. Tom Hardy can play Watson..
