RIP. Any black comic who ever wanted to stand on a stage and make people laugh owes so much to this man. He didn't push boundaries, he tore the fence down, set it on fire laughed until the police came and then screamed all the way to the station. RIP

@justicemind

Domo Jones Correct me where I'm wrong, from B.E.T. to Shea Butter, our folks at the high levels frequently sell their hard work to folks that may not have our interests at heart. I fear Africa may be on the same thing, giving the Chinese copious amounts of access. It's been said we have no allies. Then, does it bode well to make deals with people who'd rather see us subservient, or extinct? The answer is yes. A tenuous relationship between warring factions is not wholly uncommon. Sad thing is, we don't think we are at war at all. We separate ourselves based on the most trivial things. Individuals give up economic power to suit their needs and damn the opportunity to bring awareness to the group. Meh, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. This concludes my rant.

@QuadriviumNumbers

Of course he's correct! Countless millions of people have been saying this for centuries and I'm sure a century to come. Maybe you are very young but you will come to learn that the unity that you witness with all other races and nations, simply does NOT apply to black people! Every word Jim Brown said is correct but black people still won't listen! Blacks were programmed to think that whyte Jesus will come and save the black race🤣 And...he's on his way any time now! Listen to a typical black woman (even your mother/sister etc.) and you will see that they ACTUALLY believe this to be true!.

Omowàle Zaquir Umph! Taped in 84; it's almost 2019 and not much has changed. Racism is the foundation of this country; I doubt that will change. Moms taught me; "never chase a man who doesn't love you". Blacks need to stop chasing the acceptance, approval, and wealth of Whites. We need to create "Black Wall Streets" and succeed regardless, independently.

@@karong7017 You are absolutely right. We have to stop seeking the approval and validation of those who mean us no good. that goes for those outside and even inside of the diasporic family. We spend too much time focusing on who doesn't love, like, or appreciate us, to the point that we totally devalue and ignore those who are willing and able to build with us. And your mom's was right, because if you don't chase a wayward lover, and begin to ignore them, more often than not, they'll begin to chase yo. that's the human condition, especially among those who have low self worth and awareness, they're perpetually chasing the unattainable and attaining what is ultimately non-beneficial. p.s. - I found it... www.snagfilms.com/films/title/black_hollywood_blaxploitation_and_advancing_an_independent_black_cinema

After The Wiz flopped in 1978 they didn't invest in any black films. Im excluding the Richard P. films. It wasn't til Soldier's Story and then the following year The Color Purple. Then we had Spike..Robert..in the late eighties. But them early 80s was rough for black actors.

+melmillz Mel Yes you have it exactly right, I being a born in '72 I remember when "The Wiz" came out and it flopping at the box office and all the other events you mentioned, the 1990's especially the early parts was the best of times in my opinion in terms of Black films and Black filmmakers and then the powers that be decided that they was going to take entertainment out of the talented creators hands starting with white entertainers and white talented creators and make entertainment business more corporate controlled that is why we see less talented Black Americans out there and we now see more corporate controlled, but less talented multi entertainers in films that are less race driven but more cultural driven and again in my opinion that doesn't always work

Around 8:30, that guy called Michael Jackson a 1984 uncle Tom. Imagine if everyone had access to internet then and social media! He would've been dragged and prosecuted mentally for that comment. I mean I have to disagree with him though, even though MJ was young then and probably was naive like most of us when we were 24 or 25. He was super intelligent. From the "African American Registry" web site (and this is just some of what Mr. Brown did): "He founded his own production company, Ocean Productions, to encourage minority participation in movie making. Also Brown has been no stranger to the field of public service. As early as his playing days in Cleveland, he founded the Black Economic Union (BEU), which used professional athletes as facilitators in the establishment of Black-run enterprises, urban athletic clubs, and youth motivation programs. The BEU eventually folded, but Brown took his ideas to the Coors Golden Door program and Jobs Plus. In 1986, he founded a new endeavor, Vital Issues, aimed at teaching life management skills and personal growth techniques to inner-city gang members and prison inmates. By 1989, Vital Issues had evolved into Amer-I-Can. Brown conducts sessions of Amer-I-Can from his home in the hills above Los Angeles. In 1992, Amer-I-Can won more than a million dollars in grant money to expand its programs into cities such as San Francisco and Cleveland. While he may not be the only athlete to reach out to others less fortunate than himself, Brown urges his peers to do more than "make gestures" when facing society's ills."

LOL they used The Message as background music. You know this doc is totally early-mid 80s if they put that on & it's considered recent/fresh relevant audio of the time. Now in 2018, it's probably some trap beat or mumble rap like Tekashi, Lil Pump, Desiigner, Yachty, or some shit, haha! RIP Hip hop (1970s to around 1997)

Mooney played the angry black guy, which is ok, but he played it too much. He has made great points, but too much of the points become tiresome.
