You know I don’t think that’s perfectionism. Actually Pope should have been able to see it too. It’s not perfectionism to notice. That’s keen observation.
Well "perfectionism" was my word, not Paul's, and I made the description very quickly. But I think Toth does have a well-deserved reputation for being a perfectionist which results from him being keenly observant. Of course, I agree that seeing that an image was printed upside down is just an observation. But noticing a 5% gray behind halftones suggests the observation of someone who wants things perfect. Nevertheless, "Pope on Toth's Observational Powers" may have been better. :)
