Paul Reubens tells story about Grace Jones & David Bowie

During his New York Comic Con 2019 panel, Paul Reubens was asked about the performance of Grace Jones during the Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special, when Grace sang "Little Drummer Boy". As it turns out, her rendition of the song was based on an arrangement for David Bowie, which led Reubens into a diatribe about partying with David Bowie and an odd Frank Sinatra connection. It's a long story that goes off on tangents, but that's just the way Reubens weaves his tales.

Paul was a classmate. On New Year's Eve 1968, I gave him a ride on my motorcycle to a party on Longboat Key. We were never great friends, but I liked him quite a bit. He was just a nice guy. I was very happy he found fame and fortune in Hollyweird. i did cry when I heard he passed. I was very disturbed he was ill for 6 years with cancer. That means in this clip, he was suffering from cancer. He once needed bail, was about $20 short, and his friend, working for the sheriffs dept, gave the last $20 to make bail. She got sent home for a day. Seems only family can do that if you are on the force. When he did come home to Sarasota, he hung out with the very same friends he had from high school. He was one of a kind, and he should not have had to suffer 6 years from cancer. It wasn't fair. A decent guy.

Paul is such an amazing storyteller, could listen to him share his experiences all day. His subtle humor is so endearing, his humbleness and how he speaks to every crowd as if they're lifelong friends... He was truly a special person. RIP sweet soul ❤ Ps... I saw Bowie live, when I was 16, during his Glass Spider Tour (and was already a huge Pee Wee fan too!), and it would have been the icing on the cake if Paul would have been his opening act! ❤
