Yes he is adorable and he was handsome very soft-spoken gentleman so talented when my son told me that he died I cried God rest your soul Paul Reubens 🙏🏻
Paul Reubens was a comic genius. The world is duller without him. All of the wonderfully unique, talented, 'odd' in the best way, people seem to be leaving us.
When I heard that he had passed away, I was trying to recall if I had ever seen him on any of the talk shows where he was just himself. Apparently, it was very rare. He created an iconic character that made a lot of people laugh. Well done.
You can find some of his interview he did with conan. Also he did a lot of podcasts in the last couple years. I highly recommend the interview he did with sid krofft. You might be able to find it on here :)
Pretty sure he was on Jay Leno as himself. Definitely look it up on RU-vid, that’s how I learned. I don’t remember watching him as a kid. I saw him when I was maybe 12 when my little cousins were watching and by then I was old enough to be annoyed.
I hear that, friend. I'll be 51 in March and I look back. 50 years in the future seems forever from now. 50 years looking back is a few years ago. If I make it to 100 (basically birth to current age time frame), it won't seem like forever once it's done. We humans don't get a long enough time alive. It's truly unfair. There's no way we can learn, experience and enjoy every single aspect of what makes a Human life a Human experience aka the entire cake. We only get a slice or two - some get even less. I guess Gandalf is correct: "All we have to decide is what to do with the time given us."
@@SariennMusic73Just hit 42. Have severe 90s nostalgia. I feel old and damn near useless despite having a PhD and career. It hurts seeing movies and shows I grew up on. Listening to the music from high school. Thanks for listening. Take care.
@Commentator-tb8ku What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I was reading the comments to find someone who also thought he was handsome when not being Pee Wee. Paul’s pictures as a young adult in the 70s and 80s shows a different side to him, rather than being the goofy Pee-Wee
@@LanaKennedy121 I was just about to say that myself. I've seen scores of horror movies, from Jason and Leatherface to Candyman and Chucky. Nobody's scarier than Large Marge.
wow he is so pretty. and eloquent and soft spoken. the fact that he kept his cancer a secret just says so much about his humble character rest in peace paul. thank you for your art ❤
He was a comedic genius who struck gold with his on-stage persona, Pee Wee Herman, a character who made Saturday morning television fun, even for adults.
@@jasonwinzenried1115 it made the news because he had a kid's show and the news figured no kids should be watching him anymore and got his show cancelled. nowdays the news would give him a metal
It’s really nice to see Paul Reubens as himself. Not take anything away from Peewee, but I think very few of his fans ever got to know him as Paul Reubens.
When he gave us the chance to do that this pathetic nation tore him a new...it tore him to shreds. He deserved better for being an obviously sweet and sincere guy.
I always liked him best when he was just being Paul, the way he turned his 1991 arrest around and had the strength to make fun of himself and use his mugshot to design his character Amilyn on Buffy The Vampire Slayer as this role was "him getting back up on the horse" really made me admire him.
I feel like Paul Reubens is very underrated. Like I think folks forget he was in quite a lot of things playing various characters. Obviously I love Pee Wee, but Paul is more than that.
There was something about his eyes. They were dark brown and dramatic. You dont come across people with eyes like that' every day. Rest in Peace, Paul Reubens. I'll never forget my brother and I watching "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" back in the day and just cracking up throughout the whole thing. Thanks for the laughs.
We are living in a time right now where lots of famous people from the 80's are dying and it's so sad. These people really had talent and the ones coming after them don't have it like they did. Pee Wee is a treasure.
This is the first interview I've seen Paul being Paul and makes me love him even more. He was very soft spoken, he draws you in to listen to his every word, with his easy like-ability, almost melodic soft voice, very calming and a surprise almost. 😄 What a treasure and will live on in all our hearts who loved him. ❤

RIP LEGEND! I’m sad to know that my son will live in a world without you but proud of the legacy you have left behind for him to see ! I will forever love you Paul Reubens💜
It must be an overwhelming sense of satisfaction to know that you created a character whole cloth in an improv class that went on to become internationally iconic.
Yep, also read an interview where he said he would go to Hollywood parties and every celebrity would be excited to see him. He said he even hung out with Prince and David Bowie sometimes.
@Gracie. Great focus by legacy media here. The Devon Archer development pales to Pee Wee Herman. Thanks , CNN ! We all appreciate keeping us up on the news !!
@@trumpisgoingtoprison177 @trump. Sophisticated are we ? Read deeper please. It’s our responsibility as world citizens to judge information we get . But , hey ! Ukraine is winning!
To stay in character so much, that requires huge dedication. This guy gave me so many laughs, starting way back in my high school years in the 1980s ... I could never express enough gratitude. Sad to hear the news today, 7-31-2023, that he had died. We didn't even know he was sick. But Paul will live on in his video legacy of films and TV shows and guest appearances. I loved the episode of The Joan Rivers Show where they made fun phone calls together. Stuff like that tickles me. And he was fantastic in sporadic appearances as the wacko Andrew on the later seasons of Murphy Brown. This was a good actor, a talented and funny entertainer, and a kind soul. You just knew that he was genuine and sweet-- it poured out from within him.
@@jackson5116 I hadn't thought of that. I never watched those shows but I remember occasionally hearing the interesting names of wrestlers ... Rick Rude, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and so on.
He was truly awesome and I think the bad reputation he got was so unfairly short sighted. The whole child porn thing turned out to be complete bullshit, and I don't know why beating off in a porno theater is somehow the worst possible thing someone be doing in such a place. What the hell else do people expect? He will be missed indeed. It's unfortunate that if he was doing his shit today he would've been canceled for the shit that was blown out of proportion (as they frequently are). RIP Paul Rubens. 🙏
@@PlanetShlorpian Right. That scandal cast a big stigma on his career but it needn't have. People were so small minded and judgy. I think if he had just been a comedian it would not have caught such fire in the public-- but he was a children's TV show figure at the time.
Pee-Wee Character was a friend when I didn't have one. I would watch Big Adventure over and over as kid. When Playhouse came on I would record every episode. He was such a huge part of my childhood growing up in the 80's as like the most of us. I'm sad like a sibling passed away or something :(
After all is said and done about Paul Reubens he will hold a special place in comedy and film/television. Pee Wee Herman made a lot of people laugh hard, both adult and children. Sorry to hear about his long battle with cancer. Time to go rest in the Playhouse, Paul. You've made your mark.
Pee-Wee kept going back to the chemo until it killed him....just like Dennis Hopper, David Bowie and so many others who died from the treatment, not the disease. When will they learn?
I was fortunate enough to meet Paul at a convention not long before his death and he was absolutely charming. He paid me a huge compliment, which took me completely off guard, and signed a photo for my brother. I could tell something wasn't quite right with him. Devastated when I found out he'd passed but so grateful for his contributions.
Pee Wee, Paul Reubens, was a brilliant character actor. Pee Wee's Big Adventure was an amalgam of Desica's "The Bicycle Thief", Tom Waits "Big Joe & the Phantom 309". An homage to the Bond films and I have to admit the the fire in the pet shop was perhaps the funniest 4 or 5 minutes on film. Almost no dialogue, but his facial expressions and noises were brilliant. I will miss both Pee Wee and Paul.
I Saw The bicycle thief once on TV when I was a kid in grammar School. They used to run foreign films on this one real odd station at 2 in the morning and I happen to watch a couple of daseca films and they are brilliant. I also saw some of Fellini's films and other films of that genre and they are a real eye-opener to a film buff. 🙏
After all these years, I'm watching Pee Wee Herman clips and reminiscing about what an impact that character had on kids my age back in the mid-80s. He never let his night at the adult movie theater ruin him. He even managed to make a comeback worthy of such a comedic genius, or we might never have seen the likes of The Spleen ("Pull my finger!"). Thank you for all the laughs, Paul! You truly were one hot nerd.
*I don’t cry for any celebrity. It just doesn’t happen, as much as I love their art.* This just completely crushed me. Of course he didn’t tell us he had cancer. Of course he didn’t. I’m consider myself to be a successful person in my work. I have an amazing circle of friends and family. I came from humble beginnings and we did not have a lot of money growing up. Today, my parent’s four children are all doing well and independent. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse was one of those tv shows that got me through. Between Pee Wee, Mr. CBS Storybreak, 321 Contact, Rogers, Muppet Babies, Sesame Street, PBS. They took us kids who were not so well off financially to the places the rich kids would go. They took us all over the world, and Pee-Wee expanded our imagination. He just meant so much to me. I often through the years, every year take some time to watch the old shows. I’m an adult who’s still a kid inside. That will never go away. I’m 44 years old and absolutely love life. I’m happy, and Pee Wee played a big part in that. So fuck this shit I’m having a drink for Pee Wee. Peace and love to everyone! (And Cindy Lauper kicked ass in this song!) ❤️🩹 - Jon
I'm 46 and feel exactly the same including every other program you mentioned.....except no drinking for me. I gotta toss back some grape juice. Despite his personal issues he was a big part of my childhood😔
@@lemurianchickI know. He instantly erased the child like child loving image he desperately tried to portray after he was busted. Shame on him. He gets to meet his maker
I’ll never forget the memories with his films. I’ll always picture him on the iconic bicycle, and the quirky music. One of a kind for sure. Irreplaceable. Big adventure was one of my favorites as a kid.
I always recognized that Paul Rubens was a hottie on the d-low. When I consider how his career was ruined over something that these days no one would blink an eye about... ...yet I never heard him grouse or gripe or express any bit of bitterness about it; always dignified, composed, proud and sanguine -- with good reason. ❤
@@JDsHouseofHobbies I know, right? He didn't seem "that" old, yet it's still way too young to die. And not long before his 71st birthday. So very sad for his family. 🙏💔
You notice all these celebrities early interviews when they are younger they are really down to earth soft spoken and normal people. Then after Hollywood gets them they turn into much different people. Pee wees playhouse was one of my favorite shows ever as a kid 😢
It’s because Hollywood really exploits the life out of people and fame completely makes your life more complicated, especially for someone like Reubens, who not only played the character constantly in public, but the character had become a children’s brand with Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. It’s been said he would go out of his way to make sure nobody caught him smoking a cigarette, which he habitually did, or even have a sweet snack. That’s a lot of pressure to be put in and put yourself in.
I was such a PeeWee fan as a child. I would quietly well up with tears at the end of each episode knowing I'd have to wait a whole week for the next episode. RIP
Great and Grateful Memories! Pee Wee's Playhouse would come on, my 3 kids would sit down to watch it. I would go back and forth as I cleaned thinking what a silly show it was. My house would be filled with gut wrenching laughter that echoed above the vacuum as it all but shook the windows. He delightfully made kids all over spontaneously combust with hysterical laughter! Thank you Pee Wee Herman, Paul RIP and God bless you!
I remember seeing him in "Blow" and I really appreciated him as an actor. It can't be easy to be an actor but get stuck in one role the rest of your life. Don't take it to mean he didn't appreciate his success but when you're an actor you live to play other characters. That's how you grow and challenge yourself.
Peewee’s playhouse was one of the best shows on tv, period. He should not have been ‘cancelled’ for wanking in a porn theatre. Was treated terribly and unjustly.
He was still popular with children at the time. Let’s not pretend that being accused of something like indecent exposure in a porn theater isn’t going to be enormously consequential to someone like that. He exhibited very poor judgement just even being in an adult movie theater in a very conservative town like Sarasota, FL. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse was still airing every week on CBS, a major broadcast network. That is a huge embarrassment to not only CBS and every business that ever worked with him at the time, but to many of his child fans like myself who watched Pee-Wee’s Playhouse religiously every week. The reality is though that Pee-Wee’s Playhouse’s viewership was already waning at the time and that Reubens and CBS had already mutually agreed only months earlier to stop making new editions of it. He was completely burned out from doing it and wanted to move on and do other roles. He couldn’t be Pee-Wee Herman all the time, especially as the character became a children’s brand.
I’m crying as I watch this. He seemed so genuine and humble. My heart is slightly broken. He was such a huge part of my childhood. Love u Paul Reubens and May you rest in peace. 😢❤
~Paul Reubens is so precious in this video as himself ...Thanks for sharing...Loved all of his work & he will be sorely missed...RIP Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee.) 💔
He’s very charismatic and really wasn’t a one trick pony. He certainly proved he could act. You don’t have to look further than his great performance in the movie “blow” to see how well he could do it.
Thank you for making us smile. Thank you for all the laughs that helped us forget the stressful childhood traumas and anxieties. We wont forget you Pee Wee. God bless you Mrs Ruebens ♥
I wish I could know how many times I've seen this interview since July 31th. This is the second time I've ever seen Paul just being himself in the 80s and I love it. I wish we had more interviews like this one. I am still heartbroken. I miss you, Paul.
😢 I love this, never seen this, not to sound rude or blunt, but I hate how it takes someone to pass away to see these rare interviews, I wish these would’ve been available years ago ❤ rest in peace ☮️
I got to see him in The Groundlings on Santa Monica. It was... 1981, and it was momentous. The Pee-Wee Effect IS a cultural phenomenon. What a great talent.
RIP. Paul Reubens AKA Peewee Herman, you made everyone's childhoods and I enjoyed watching your show and films for many years. You will be greatly missed.
This interview is 42 years old! But Paul looks so timeless, like.. if he appeared in a talkshow now in 2023 looking like this, his look wouldn't even be considered "retro". He was actually very handsome, I could watch him all day like this (being himself, as he said). Rest now, Paul, you won't be forgotten.
Pee Herman helped me catch a scammer. I chatted for over a year with a person from San Antonio, but Supposedly he was working overseas. He needed money badly in order to come see me. I knew he was a scammer as soon as he asked for money. I wanted to catch him in a lie. Supposedly the guy grew up in San Antonio. I asked him if he had ever been to the basement at the Alamo. The scammer said yes, that be had been to the basement! Lol. I remember the question from his movie! RIP Pee Wee!
I never realized how good looking he was. As Pee Wee you don’t really notice his looks cuz that character is like a big kid. RIP Paul Thank you for giving so much to the world
He's trying not to go into character, especially when his mouth moves sideway harhhar RIP My salute to Peewee Herman. Him, along with Ernest P. Worrel, gave me a lot of childhood laughters
