When I was 15 years old I would get on my uncle's lap and he would sing "Ride On A Pony". I would ride him until he quit singing. He always ended the song with such emotion.
What's interesting is that Paul was sick before/during this concert, and still went ahead and did it. His voice is still great, but he's got more in him. Saw him with Queen at Wembley 2008, and he did not miss a note! And they are also way better musicians than his band here. :(
@huggy6767 The old Gray Haired Dude is Howard Leese...who played lead guitar on all the "HEART" albums..back in the 70's...He has done more than just "PRACTICE"...
Wow I can't believe the bad comments. I think this whole concert was amazing. Really just Paul mixing it up a bit with a different band behind him. he hits some beautiful tones and displays awesome range. Listen to Be my friend from this show. it's awesome. I'm sorry but nothing paul does is bad, ever, ever, ever!!
I think these guys are good musicians.. doing as good of a job as possible. But the members of FREE were one of those exceptional bands that had so much personality in their individual styles.(like The Beatles) No one plays guitar like Kossoff. Bass like Fraser. Drums like Kirke. The music can be copied, but it's the X-FACTOR that can't be copied. In all fairness, NO one could play these songs with the same feeling, spirit and sexiness FREE oozed into them. It was THOSE guys...in THAT time.
I'm afraid this dvd, although officially the first one from him, is not 'the Voice's' finest hour. Story goes, that he was ill right before this concert, but a lacluster filming, uninspired musicians behind a visibly weakened Rodgers should have caused this dvd to be canceled, and a new concert recorded, or maybe the one from UDO have been released. Because the man is here, and in full force again. Have just seen him propelling Queen into the universe.
negative comments from some armchair rockstars!! hes older, his energy and approach is a little different, that happens to us when we put a few years on us. he still has soul, and has one of the top 3 voices in the history of pop and rock music ever!!
2 guitarists on stage and Kossof's shirt on a hanger would blow them both off there so fast they'd have to send their shadows by fedex. It's not as though they don't have the kit they just don't have a clue. Rodgers is still ripping.
Paul rodgers good as usuall.. but wtf? This does not sound anything like Ridin on a pony... The bass player sucks bigtime... I love FREE... they were gods...but this was not that good....
Free was great, this is crap. Rodgers has lost his soul and capacity to move and the rest of the guys are just like machines playing one note next to the other. I've seen amateurs playing much better versions.
