Pavilion Key & Sweetwater Chickee Camping | Everglades National Park | Gheenoe LT25

We brought our Gheenoe down to Everglades City/Chokoloskee for a few nights of primitive camping. It was an epic trip! The first night we stayed at Chokoloskee Island Resort. The next morning we had a few hiccups before getting on the water but we finally made it out there. It was about 8 nautical miles to the Pavilion Beach campsite. We had a great campfire on the beach and got up at 5am to watch a meteor shower. The next morning we made our way through the islands for about 10.6 nautical miles to Sweetwater Bay Chickee. Staying on the Chickee was cool but the bugs definitely came out as soon as the sun went down. The last day was about 15 nautical miles back to the Chokoloskee Island Resort boat ramp.

Awesome video....but never ever, ever put rocks in a fire that are on an island or near or in water, they retain moisture, and if one of them has enough moisture in it, and you have it in a fire, it explodes.....crazy stuff actually and an awesome way to get hurt and start a brush fire hahaha

I’ll say one thing, y’all are tough! I spent a couple of nights on the Chickee’s. (I was in my 20’s and 30’s. Lots of Coors Light to help with the sleeping) Not showering for 3 days then the 3 1/2 hour drive back to Lakeland/home was rough. Stuck with Pay at the Pump and Drive Thru restaurants. Everglade City- The Bermuda Triangle of Boat Issues. I had a saying for the place, hang on- Vu Ja De (The opposite of Deja Vu) “This has never happened to anyone ever before at this location) 1) Trailer wheel comes off I-75 2) Hit a curb in the roundabout in Everglade City. Tire shredded 3) Trolling motor bracket comes unbolted. Useless, had to come back in 4) Forgot the drain plug. At the dock. Sunrise, no place open to buy one 5) Engine Oil alarm goes off. 1 hour from the dock Because of the Everglades and being wiser I now triple check everything on the boat. I have extra everything. Props, drain plugs,2 spare tires, backup bearings, and the list goes on… But when everything is working and the snook, Redfish, and trout are even slightly biting, there’s no place I’d rather be. I took the place for granted while I was a Dreadnaught and Moccasin, but being in Atlanta I only get down about every 5 years. Hardcore fishing and camping. And you better have some MacGyver skills. If something is going to go wrong it’ll be when you haven’t seen another boat all day and you’re out of cell range. Still love the place.

Slept on one of those as well. Maybe that exact one. Boat, lures, coffee can, oil, flour 2 potatoes, Coleman burner. (If we didn’t catch a keeper Snook, Redfish, or trout, we were eating potatoes and Snicker bars for dinner and breakfast. (Two time Gheenoe owner. One in Florida, now one in Georgia. The new one has only been used to trout, panfish and crappie fish. Never been back to the Everglades since I moved. Kill me. Kill me now. I miss it)

That sunset. Wow. Im almost wanting to get another gheenoe so i can go to this location. Im in the Tampa Bay area, but looks like a great place to road trip to. Invest in a few therma-cells. Bugs will be a thing of the past. That smoooooth water. Wow

Looks like fun. I can't wait to get my riverhawk back in the water. It's like yours but 17 feet with the flotation braces around the inside of it. I'm hoping to do some mods that nobody has done before to it. I'd like to make the trip from Rome, Ga to there where y'all are in it. I have a super sweet setup design. Your model could handle a scaled down version. I'm going to put lithium batteries in the seat wells, 25hp electric motor, and a gas/propane 2200 watt generator on the nose, and make it look fancy. Those generators don't need the plastic around them or the gas tank. I'm going to put a tank of each behind the motor and run either. The generator will charge the batteries and run the motor at the same time. I'll be able to run it 10 hours or so before I even have to turn the generator on with only half the battery life gone. It'll run 42 hours off a standard propane tank. We're talking about some good gas mileage right there buddy. I'm going to use a lot of spray foam in the battery compartments and in the floater braces to increase buoyancy to compensate for the extra weight so that I keep it's carrying capacity at 700lbs. That's losing 50 but that's great actually. I'm planning to steer it from the front seat. That way I can use the trolling motor without having to leave the master controls. I hope you don't mind the long-winded comment. I used to run a 2 stroke Evinrude 15 tiller. I had to put 130lbs of free weights in the front of it to hold it down. Plus my gear. That electric 25 is gonna be mean as a snake. Nice video. I enjoyed it. Thanks. Hey let me know what you think about my setup plans. Later.

Soak your clothes in Permethrin. They sell it on Amazon. Bugs won't be a problem. Plus Thremacells and deer help too.

We used almost a full 6 gallon tank but we were loaded down with gear. I don't think there would be anything we would change, other than checking the boat over a little more to make sure it was all good before we left the house.

It would be a long trip. There are quite a few chickees and islands. Maybe there are some that are a bit closer to land.

I have seen all of your videos, and they are awesome. But I can not recall if you guys use a Thermocell? I was thinking that may have helped with the bug issue out there. OH, those trout are good eating this time of year. Can't wait for the next Glorious Adventure.

We do have a Thermocell that we use on the camper and we love it. Not sure anything would have helped with the amount of bugs that were at the chickee once the sun went down. Thanks for watching!

Hi, I have an questions. Your boat got lean over weight when sinking? I saw many RU-vid show gheenoe couple boat got sinking out, like walking or body over weight got flip over third time try get out. I worry if I buy correct right model, I think LT25 more wide instead LT10 classic.

Tip for any who dare > HIDE YOUR WATER FROM BIRDS> They will 100% peck through plastic and so many people come back early after learning this harsh lesson.
