PBR texturing in 3D Coat Tutorial
In this tutorial I take a look at how to quickly create detailed and realistic PBR texture using 3D Coat's smart materials and custom tools.
3D Coat will automatically create curvature and ambient occlusion maps for us to aid us in texturing, we don't need to go to xNormal for example to bake maps.
This is such a fun and quick application to use to paint and create PBR textures, and we can preview the final result in such a nice way, real time.

I'm not getting how you were able to apply different smart materials to different parts of your mesh. Like when you added the Dirt Smart Material. I made a new layer but the metal smart material went away on my older layer. Do you need UVs for that part first?

PeeyanoKeys although you can do some painting without UVs , for effects such as the smart materials that rely on curvature or AO you will need UVs for the entire mesh

You have an entire set of stencils already in place within 3d-coat, and of course can use your own images for it as well. They overlay in a live preview pane w/all the positioning and scaling that you see Jaakko use for the PBR mats. Works great, and of course you can elect to effect each channel area color/gloss/depth as well !

Is texture quality based on subdivision like z brush or i can paint a simple box without lose like substance.

It is not geometry based so geometry amount doesnt matter. You can paint high resolution texture on a simple 6 quad cube. Its like painting directly on UV map

Go to File, Export Objects & Textures.

So you don't do anything else? Just follow what you do in the vid and then export them and they'll be baked in? I assume they make multiple maps cus it's a smart material/pbr... like albedo, gloss, curvature etc...

PeeyanoKeys thats right my friend. There are even several presets and you can choose either spec/gloss or metal/rough. Ir various other presets. Its going to give you set if maps. Try it.

Am I the only one to notice that the nut and bolt are left hand threads? :D I know they exist, but extremely rare and usually custom made for some specific purpose.

That music makes it really hard to hear your voice, when it rises it tends to override your voice.. like an alternating hum the whole time. Will try and listen a few times so I can catch what seems to be very good info.
