PE Games: Boom City |Throwing and Catching Skills| 

The kids loved this game! Perfect for my classes that are still learning to be good competitors, because no one gets out and there's little chance of physical contact.

I made a forth job of gatherers. The only thing I said is that you could not gather and then throw. It worked well with 3rd and 4th. I also use mats instead of benches. Love the game.Thanks for all the ideas

Great game!

Any advice for activities that do well during observations? Our observation tool is heavy on classroom management, students initiating questions/discussions, student assessment input. This is my second year in PE and I'm struggling just a tad!!

Love your channel's content! Boom city is a fan-favorite here at my school as well. Though, I use Gym mats for standing platforms.. Quick question: I noticed in I think another video of yours, a music playlist of sorts that has an up-beat mix of popular songs. Maybe you've explained it in a past video and I haven't noticed it. BUT...how do I get my hands on it? I like to play music as well in my Gym.

I’ve modified it for Halloween using ghosts (in a graveyard) as points instead of rings. I pride myself in being able to explain games well, and modifying them if there seems to be confusion. This game takes a bit to teach and then I find myself stopping the game for clarification of rules and discussion of strategies more often than usual. I’m not using pinnies to distinguish teams, but I think it’s sufficient to tell kids that they need to focus on players at the opposite mat (using mats instead of benches) that are waiting to receive the ball. They do have discussion of strategies with their team prior so they shouldn’t have too much confusion as to who is on whose team. They are getting confused about which graveyard they’d take from, which mat they receive on, then communication is not very good when switching up jobs from throwing, to catching, and collecting balls. All after emphasizing these points. Any tricks or ideas? Thanks in advance.

So do the catchers stand in front of their oppositions bucket of rings if they catch the ball do they grab a ring and run it over to their bucket??

Unforortunately this game didn't work for my 1st and 2nd graders. I have 40 plus kids and tried to modify and explain an easier verison. They didn't understand. I'll try with the older kids. Seems like a fun game if the class sizes are smaller and older kids that understand.
