There are few more emotive words in the English language than psychopath - a clinical term for a condition that only recently has begun to be properly defined. It describes a dangerous pattern of behaviour, which, although it’s been recognised for the better part of a century, is little understood. Every decade has produced its own particular brand of psychopath, whose horrific crimes have defied any kind of rational explanation.

I wished they spoke more about industrialized psychopaths, I think the percentage that are in the upper levels of management must be very high. Plus the amount of damage they can perpetuate in those positions is more than the individual crimes of criminal psychopaths. Same for those in politics too.

I read (but didn't fact-check!) that the profession with the highest percentage of psychopaths is CEO. Lawyers and people in media and sales also rank high. So you're right! Those are prestigeous careers, and psychopaths have big egos and love power. And they have no moral qualms with manipulating and stepping on others to get ahead, so they do well in competitive fields.

The term Psychopath doesn’t describe “a pattern of behaviors”, it’s a pattern of traits. People want to pretend as if these people are treatable. Flat out dangerous to think like that.
@SsecretsSsS
@SsecretsSsS 4 года назад
Well… I mean scientists have been studying the subject a lot longer than you have what makes you think you know any better? They don't know if it is treatable that's why they're studying it if you could identify and treat psychopathy before any incidents wouldn't that be a good thing... It's easy for us to say these things when we aren't in the same position they are. What do you suggest we do start testing people and give them a lethal injections? Of course the only way to completely understand the subject is to study it...

Oliver jr Palmer I’ve worked in the field for over 25 years, I have completed numerous offender profiles that fit on the Psychopathy checklist, and actually have been teaching the Hare Psychopathy checklist to profilers, so yeah, I know quite a bit about the subject. The Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI is the leading outfit worldwide in the study of psychopathy and Europe is miles behind. Generally Americans are way more realistic about such things. You do not try and rehabilitate a serial killer or a child murderer. There are consequences to actions. Try again.

@@lowrider81hd Sorry I guess i shouldn't have assumed that you haven't been working in the field. Although, realistically leaving a comment like that wouldn't really give any credibility to the fact that you're a doctor, anyone can say anything online. I never said they were treatable, they're doing research to see if it is possible, and to find what the cause is. I didn't mean that we should just say they're treated, and free them after they've commited a serious crime. They're researching this topic nobody knows the complete ability of the brain, nobody knows it's full potential. They are trying to research the topic they even said in the therapy sessions you have to take everything psychopaths say with a grain of salt, they are very deceiving, did you actually watch the documentary?They addressed the topics you are speaking about, and they have repeated over and over again that they do not know if it is treatable, your point is invalid instead of putting out your own moral judgement, you should look at the facts displayed in front of you, even if you and others think it is pointless to research, by that logic humanity wouldn't be where it is today. Nobody is saying to let them walk free and most likely the scientists are not stupid enough to let that happen, and most likely these people would still be watched their entire lives. Do you really think we could lock up each and every psychopath? imo I don't think so...

I think what he meant is that most people feel some remorse or guilt when they do something bad to someone else so the 'pain' prevents them from doing it again. He's like a person who doesn't feel pain when touching the stove, so he's inclined to keep touching it if there's something to gain. Some people aren't as moral as they think, they're just controlled by their feelings. For example, people don't feel guilt or remorse if they think the person deserved it and a person could feel guilty about something like being raped if they live in a society where that's seen as being their fault.

@uggggggghhhhh 10 месяцев назад
I dont think following the law is a good indicator for who shouldnt or shouldnt be out in society. There are many illegal things you can do that wont always negatively affect others. Illegal ≠ immoral. For example, a lot of people steal, pirate movies/tv, drink before being of legal age, take illicit (but harmless) substances like devils lettuce, shro0ms, MDMA, etc. Of course, its still illegal and I agree they should face consequences if caught. Most criminals do not commit crime thinking they're going to get caught, otherwise they wouldnt do it or they dont have enough knowledge of the law to be aware of just how many laws theyre violating and the type of consequences they come with like how much you can be fined, how much time you could face in prison, your criminal record, what would happen if people found out, etc. because of this, making the punishment more severe has little effect on crime. States that have the death penalty still have people that commit horrible crimes thatd warrant capital punishment. The thing with psychopaths is that there is no cure and attempting to "cure" them only makes things worse but you can't give someone life in prison because they repeatedly pirate music or because they got the APD diagnosis (indicating a lack of empathy; you can lack empathy and still obey the law) Psychopaths dont really commit serious crimes out of impulse, its not done as a reaction like revenge. They do it as a means to an end; to get something they NEED like money, shelter, food, s3x, etc.

Now it’s my mission to educate people on psychopaths, because they don’t know, and psychos are human evil and “sick souls”.

I think we can think about "responsible" in more ways than one. It may be helpful not to moralise our response. We want the psychopaths out of circulation. Whether they're morally responsible doesn't affect that. Even if they are not morally responsible they pose a threat which needs to be neutralised. Where moral culpability does come into play is how we treat them once they have been taken out of circulation. It's a bit like contagious disease. If you're a carrier you'll be put under quarantine irrespective of your moral culpability. It's sufficient that your physical presence poses a threat to others. So it is with psychopaths.

He’s bragged publicly about sexual assault, openly lusts after his daughter & has done since she was a very young child (& I will not be remotely surprised when she finally admits he abused her - look at photos of them when she was young). He has bribed, blackmailed & bought people. And the only things that stopped him starting a nuclear war or ordering the murder of various people, was the actions of some of the people around him who refused to do as he said. He tried to overturn a legally elected government FFS because it hurt his ego to lose an election. If only his followers realised they worship a psychopath. Mind you, they’d no doubt turn it around & say it’s a good thing so he can make tough decisions 🙄

20:23 you see Robert Kardashian talking with an assistant of OJ. There's a bad to his right that she sat down next to him. He picks up that bag after their whispers and hugs and leaves. He went to his grave never revealing what was in that bag. He desposed of its contents.

The notion that 20% of the criminal element commits almost 50% of the violent crime in the UK is astounding. I always thought it was environment ( childhood abuse/ trauma) that was to blame... guess not. Wow.

Nature vs. Nurture. Is an individual a natural born pychopathic OR is it due to the condition/state of their upbringing/environment? OR is it a combination of both? OR is it a choice? As is said there are a group of things to consider. But aren't a total lack of of empathy, moral/ethical compus & self reflection in there to?
@Pushing_Pixels

Both nature and nurture can lead to violent behaviour. Psychopaths are born wired for it, while Sociopaths are created. Psychopaths (aka Primary Psychopaths) are cold, calculating, and manipulative, but can also be charming. They can sometimes lead "normal" lives. Sociopaths (aka Secondary Psychopaths) are impulsive, angry, chaotic, and generally lead pretty dysfunctional lives.

I agree there is NO WAY to rehabilitate these people. However, it’s absolutely essential to be able to identify, and understand these people on a scientific level

35:43 For decades, I have been flooded with violent images and reports of violence every day through the media (television, internet, newspapers), so that I have been used to them for a long time and have become numb to them. If a psychiatrist were to carry out such a test with me and show me such negative images in order to explore my emotions, my brain would probably only react as if I had seen completely irrelevant images, and I would also receive the diagnosis "psychopath".

Ruth Neumann That's an excellent point and psychiatric drugs are known to blunt empathy and compassion etc as well, which is frightening, because many millions of people all over the world are taking one or more and a lot are killing while on them, or withdrawing too quickly. 🙁

A better way to reduce human suffering than curing psychopathy would be to make us all psychopaths. I'm very, very close to actually wishing that I were one, since my feelings of love, empathy, guilt and shame are the main reasons why I find life to be almost unbearably painful. In a way, administering a cure for psychopathy to a psychopath would be one of the cruelest things one could do to a person. "Here you are! Welcome to the world of emotions, where you'll experience lots of pain like the rest of us!"

these people in the world aka normies think that they are exempt from creating what we call psychopaths, they are the reason they exist in many ways. i have been abused and treated like trash most of my life for being empathetic and now all i want to do is harm others

I'm totally not a psychopath but I am a Sociopath. I can't tell you how many therapists I've fooled by saying what I know they wanna hear to get what I want or what I want them think. I pretend to be another person for a living. I'm able to pretend to be a loving and caring individual to fool my coworkers and clients. It's just something I've always done. At the end of the day I'm completely exhausted from having to hold my true self inside. To the point that my road rage is sometimes uncontrollable.
