Peak Village indeed! Chaldon CC play at Six Brothers Field, a National Trust property near Caterham in Surrey. This match suited the surroundings perfectly and is a lovely example of English village cricket full of eccentricity and a standard of play that is largely irrelevant!

Love grounds like this where you have about 10 minutes looking for the ball. Game I played Saturday was against a clubs 4ths, and their 2s were also home, but the boundaries overlapped each other on the one side and we had to be wary of the other pitches game. Certainly an interesting experience

As I continue 12 months of lockdown in downtown Versailles’ I remind myself of the great value Maestro Dan Allen brings to us and I’m watching matches for the multiple time. Love the shotgun neighbour story. Playing golf in the 70s with my father in our local club in Bedale, Wensleydale, someone had the bright idea of putting up a greenhouse just 10 yards behind the ninth hole. You could collect your ball for a £5 ´contribution’...guess how many of us left our balls amongst the vegs (Editor’s note...this is a family channel🤭😉

Thanks Mike - love a greenhouse next to a cricket ground! Bonkers. I am reminded of a match we played in Sevenoaks with a bowls green next to it and a coterie of codgers mid-tournament having to run for shelter as our 6 specialist, Chris Aeschlimann, put 4 successive sixes onto the green. Happy days....
