On a clear night, The Who sang this song to 80,000 fans in Buffalo, NY at New Era Stadium in the 80's. As Roger said Reign over me...I SWEAR TO MY GOD, it started raining !!!!! Then...It stopped after the song. This is a true story !!!!!!!!!!

Eddie Vedder has an insanely ridiculous iconic vocal. One of these days I NEED to go see these guys. The music production and performance on this song, simply amazing. Just wow! BTW, Sori, you are entitled to your wrong opinion. :P Awhile back I sent you a link to a band where the guys vocals are not Eddie but.... still this guy has a crazy low to high range and can still scream in key extremely well. Anyways, all the best to you guys. Thanks for your content.

My GOD what a vocal!!! This is the first time hearing this for me. Vedder nailed it and exceeded Daltry's original. That's right, I said it. Holy Moley.

It's a good performance, but the thing is, he copied just about every inflection from Daltry. Nothing original in this take at all. I know I'll listen to the original many more times. I don't feel any need to ever listen to this one again.

This was recorded at the VH1 Rock Honors - A Tribute to The Who in 2008 at UCLA. I was fortunate enough to have been there, and Pearl Jam were undoubtedly the best performers of the night. All of the bands at this event (including Foo Fighters, Incubus, Flaming Lips, and Tenacious D) performed Who songs. This isn't my favorite Who song that Pearl Jam does - that's Baba O'Riley, but they absolutely NAILED this song. Also, they recorded a studio version as well in 2007 that was in the movie "Reign Over Me" starring Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. You guys should check it out. Peace and Love!

From the '73 rock Opera Quadraphenia. A fantastic album by The Who. This is about as good as it gets as far as a cover song. Eddie nails it.

You know, Sori. I was just thinking this week that I really miss the old non-MA firesides because they were less political. There were more callers who wanted to ask for advice or just talk with someone about what is eating at them. They were far less political. Now people call in primarily to give a political opinion. The old non-MA Firesides felt more family-like, and as though people were finding them helpful. I think you should do those again.

This is a emotional song no matter who sings it. The interpretation can be made in many ways from sad, happy, relief, and questioning. You have to find the attachment for yourself.

I can't remember what event this was but it might've been The Who's induction to the Rock hall of fame or something like that, I watched it on TV n at the time I didn't know much of Eddie Vedder but this song shocked me to my core, honestly. Eddie's voice never ceases to amaze me n sometimes, quite often tbh, I go down the rabbit hole, with Eddie n Chris Cornell

And what you failed to talk about was the fact that this was TWO DECADES after MTV unplugged Black video and LISTEN to the howl of Eddie Vedder. Still passionate and still got it. Their last tour a year or so back they were playing 3 to 4 hour sets, no break. And GIRL, you're SO wrong!

If you want a good song for a cover week do Rocking in a Free World by Neil Young and do one of the numerous covers live by Pearl Jam. They play it at almost every show. You Can even find Neil Young and Pearl Jam playing the song together.

Vin knows Eddie Vedder to be the National Treasure that he is. I've always liked him for that. You should review the song "do the evolution" by Pearl Jam. It paints a picture which very much came true. Also, Eddie Vedder has so Solo stuff you should check out too. I'm not mad about Sori's rating, because she liked all the Ghost songs Vin hated, so its like the Ying and the Yang.

This was preformed at a special tribute concert for The Who around 2008. Many bands played many cover songs. Pearl Jam did this and The Real Me. Both are good, but I think they did a better job with The Real Me.

Thank you for playing the cover by Pearl Jam. I am a deep fan of the song. I respect sorries opinion in not being attracted to the piece of work. If she heard the original it might make a difference to her. As illogical as that sounds sometimes the artist doing the song is the balance which makes a song likable. The Whos version is a classic and one of the all-time greats of rock and roll. The place in history that the who has is very powerful in Rock coming out of the 60s. Starting with their first hit my generation in 1963. Thank you for listening to me speak with respect to both of you. Thank you both for all that you do.

The studio version done by Pearl Jam is much better sound quality. And I believe they did this song for the Adam Sandler movie reign over me. If it wasn’t done for the movie it was definitely used in the previews because I worked at blockbuster and that’s how I first heard this version.

one of the best "The WHO" songs ever, to hit those notes should be a show closer but Roger Daughtry does such an amazing job and I commend Eddie Vetter for his performance. This is a song that hits the male demo differently, we look at love differently. So i can see how Sori doesn't enjoy the lyrics...but still that is one of the greatest vocals ever!

This is a phenomenal rendition of the Whos classic original. If I'm not mistaken this was performed at the Rock n Roll HOF for aThe Who's induction into the Hall. Eddie Vedder and PJ are HUGE fans of the Who. John Entwistle may be perhaps the Best Bass Player Ever....Keith Moon was a Legend....Pete Townsend IS a musical Genius...and Roger Daltrey was, IMO, one of the top 5 Frontmen ever! Listen to their studio version and you'll have a religious experience.

Yeah, the talent in that band was just ridiculous. Townsend's writing (he wrote just about every single song of theirs by himself), and Daltrey's range, vocal power, and unique voice are the stars, and the other two guys are just two of the best to ever play their instruments. Crazy. Their entire discography deserves to be listened to many times over. But at the very least it's worth it to do a deep dive into some of their albums. (Quadrophenia, Tommy, and Who's Next being my top 3)

I highly recommend listening to the original version of the song by The Who, but in the context of their "rock opera" film "Quadrophenia." Roger Daltrey has more of a range but Vedder does nail the scream. I think both guitar solos are good tho, just different. Also, check out the Adam Sandler film of the same name, it's pretty decent. I liked it when it first came out. The film component is important, I think, because the song is a part of a concept album that is also the soundtrack to The Who's film.
