Thank you so much for making these videos! Because of you, I passed my challenge exams today because my license expired back in 2012. I didn't take a refresher course, just watched your videos and purchased your grid and manual supply list sheets from etsy yesterday. My little girls were my residents and the oldest check marked through the grid skills sheet. My skills were washing hands, measure and record urinary output, positions on side, provide mouth care and applying one knee high elastic stocking. I was so nervous this morning and so relieved when I got my scores. Thank you, Julie!

Don't you wash your hands before beginning to brush the clients teeth? This is where I get confused. I am under the understanding that you wash your hands before any procedure begins even if the book does not state it. There are 23 steps; can you tell us which require hand washing before beginning in the opening steps?
@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 4 года назад
Hi, Ann! If you are testing under Pearson Vue, the only time you will need to wash your hands with actual running water and soap is during the skill "Hand Hygiene", which will always be the first skill you perform. Any time after that, whenever the skill requires you to "wash hands", you need only verbalize doing so. Watching my video, "When Do I Wash My Hands?", may give you a better understanding.

hello miss julie i was just wondering if it was okay for a second emesis basin to be used as a designated area for the toothbrush rather than a washcloth?
@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 5 лет назад
Hi, Thea! You could, but I highly recommend not using the nemesis basin as your clean barrier for the toothbrush for placing on the table. One, even though you'll already have to collect/gather an nemesis basin to perform this skill, you'll end up having to perform an extra step by placing the second nemesis basin you collect in the designated dirty area if the NAE instructs you to leave the supplies at the sink. Second, it's easier to grab a washcloth then another bulky supply. You have to think about what is most convenient and time-saving.

@@NURSEJAR Thank you so much for responding so quickly! I got really lucky to find your videos they're extremely informative and you happen to be based in Texas too so that's a bonus. I also have a couple of other questions if you don't mind, I'm sorry to ask so many but my exam is this weekend.. during the skill of repositioning the resident I noticed that in the mock exam that one of your students rolled the sheet all the way to the bottom of the bed for the entirety of the skill? Is that allowed? Also when turning the client to the side to put the linen protector beneath them will you be penalized if the side rail isn't up? (in any skill other than repositioning the client I mean) And my last question is if it's essential for the linen protector to be beneath the client during assistance with the bedpan, that's how I was taught at my cna school but it doesn't seem like it's required or even mentioned in the handbook. Again, I apologize for asking so many questions and thank you so much for your time.
@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 5 лет назад
@@cookielover432 Thea Fradejas Thea Fradejas Hi! I don't mind questions at all! Let's see if I can answer these for you! 1. Positioning: It's okay to lower the sheets while placing pillows. Just remember to cover the patient before stating "skill complete". 2. Siderails: Whenever turning the patient away from you, you must always raise the sidewalk on the side that you'll be turning the patient. In the skill, "Positions on Side", the step specifically states to do so. In other skills, like, "Performs Peri-Care for Female", it does not. However, you have to keep in mind "SAFETY", one of the 5 Indirect Care Skills. If you do not raise the side rail before turning the patient to place the linen protector, you will get flagged for safety. To avoid this from occurring, you may always raise the mannequins hips to place the linen protector. 3. Bedpan: Placement of a linen protector is not required for this skill. You'll just be wasting precious time by performing this additional, unneccessary step. Hope I answered all your questions. Let me know how you do on your exam.
