the EVH has more clarity, that means it's probably the better amp of the two. that can also just be that they are not EQ correctly and the peavey could actually sound better
I’ve owned all these amps..Peavey 5150/6505s and all the EVH 100s…I still have the Peaveys. At the end of the day, that are just way more raw and cutting. The evh are too smooth and lack mids and character.
The 6505 is basically the same power plant and circuit board as the 5150 , peavey Just had to change the name from the 5150 to the 6505 after their license with EVH expired.
I honestly have no idea what differences anyone can hear in this recording. There is no difference. They sound identical! And yes, i do own both of these heads and they can sound identical in a live context.
I love my 6505+. Yesterday I set a new record and was able to set the post knob all the way to 3 and the house was only shaking a little bit! Peavey all day for me!
I don’t care enough to notice a difference. But thru the red channel on my 6505+ i can sound exactly how I need to. I could certainly dial that in with any amp in this family. 5150,6505, evh, any of these would make me happy
Peavey all day! I have a Block OG 6L6, It has the most gain out of anything I have ever played. Way more than the EVH series. That's why it's the holy grail! But... Fender did a great job on their EVH line for sure!
You're probably right. Eddie used to set the mids at 2 on his Peavey so it would make sense that the EVH would be EQ'd a little closer to what he preferred without such an adjustment.
Peavey has 2 tricks up its sleeve, throw a latch cable on the effects loop and the sound thickens and the distortion saturates more. Throw a fulltone OCD on the front and its a monster. EVH clean channel is 1000% better though
I mean they're basically the same amp. Of course they can be dialed to sound this similar. I don't think there is even a point in having an opinion one way or another.
They sound super close. To my ears on my headphones, the EVH seems a bit tighter and overall more pleasant. I may be biased here as I own the 100 watt evh el34. It just slays. This amp has it all!
@@NinecoreNeil fair enough. I keep a tc electronic sentry on my board. Set to forget. I mostly don't notice it. But if I didn't have it, everyone would notice. Lol
Having owned several Peavey 5150/6505s and both the EVH 6l6 and el34 100 watt heads, I 100% prefer the Peaveys. They are just so much more raw and have a lot more mid range when you A/B them with the evh amps. The EVH are a bit sterile and too much gain IMO. They are smoother and probably nicer to play on the room, but in a full band setting, they have a bit of trouble cutting through compared to the Peavey. In a recorded studio mix, it’s a lot less noticeable.
@@NinecoreNeil I think it's the el34's speaking. i personally prefer el34's over 6l6. creamier or something. always prefered el34 over 6l6. 6l6 is a bit more bitey or something, a bit more sizzle maybe. I don't dilsike 6l6's tough. but for creammy lead work, el34's.
@@NinecoreNeil thats what i'm a bit on the fence with. the evh is like twice the price of the 6505. most backlines have 6505 in them. Maybe soundwise not ''as'' good as the evh but maybe the saver bet and easy to understand allrounder.
It’s the opposite in real life. The peaveys have a lot more mids, whereas the evh amps are a bit hollow on the mids. I’ve owned the Stealth 50, stealth 100, and el34 100. They were my favorite amps for awhile, but then I got my hands back on a 6505+and couldn’t believe how much more raw and cutting it is. It cuts so much better at my band practices that I sold all the EVH amps. The Peavey makes them seem kind of sterile and lifeless on comparison. Sure, the Peavey isn’t as “nice” sounding and has some fizzy stuff going on, but I find it much more inspiring.
