This is an update on my prior comment. Thanks for a helpful video; I have ordered the parts to do that installation. Last week, I found that there was "no way" I could lift or move my Bass Raider on its trailer. I popped open the bow plugs and GALLONS and GALLONS of water flowed out. After that became a trickle, I removed the stern rod holders I had installed last year and drained EVEN MORE water via those openings. Since I cannot accept that such a large volume of water is "weeping" through the skin of the boat, I concluded that it is entering at the "clamshell" seam or, less likely, through the bow plug openings. I doubt the latter as the plugs fit tightly. So, I purchased a couple of cans of the spray Flex Seal and applied three coats to top and bottom of the seam joining the top and bottom halves of the boat. Wish me luck!

I have the same issue with mine, but mine was caused by cracks in the area on the top so all the water drained into a low spot and then went inside the boat. I also installed better plugs in my bow holes.

Thanks for the great video. Bought my Pelican and the first thing I did was put in a Scupper Plug like yours. Works great and it has rained a few times since I bought it and each time I look out the window at the boat down by the dock and silently thank you for sharing your idea.

We're in Alabama and my son is 18 and autistic. We really didn't catch anything. The fishing was very slow. Wasn't able to land anything. I think the weather and the spawn or post spawn have the fish tired. I had several follow my bait up to the boat but wouldn't bite

I solved the same problem by using a waterproof tarp and bungee cords to keep water out. The minimal amount that accumulates is easily removed with a sponge. I would be interested to see if your 10e has the same problem as others; that is accumulation of water between the hulls; this is a recognized problem that apparently occurs as water intrudes around the molding strip in this clamshell design RAM-X boat. That's why they installed the bow drain plugs, but it does require the awkward lifting of the stern to drive the water to the bow. Your drain will not solve that issue.
@greatamericansurvival
@greatamericansurvival 4 года назад
Daryl Griffin So you actually installed drains for the inner hull pontoons? What did you use I’ve found a couple of drain plugs designed for like rain barrels. I’m actually looking at doing that next. I usually keep mine on a tilt trailer but I’m planning to install a casting deck on the front mostly because I’ve only got one chair.
@dgriffin6074
@dgriffin6074 4 года назад
@@greatamericansurvival My Bass Raider came with drain plugs in the bow of each pontoon (it's a 2019 model...or at least that's when I purchased it). However, if I lift the stern to drain the hulls when it's on the trailer, it wants to slide forward and wedge itself under the winch. Haha. I am going to hang a pulley from in garage so I can raise the stern without it sliding. Hope this helps.
@greatamericansurvival
@greatamericansurvival 4 года назад
Yes mine has those plugs I’m talking about installing ones like a pontoon boat. On the lower part of the rear of the boat. To make where you don’t have to even tilt it just unscrew the plugs and let the water flow. I found a hole in one of my cup holders so I’m pretty sure that’s were I’m getting water into my boat.

Yes the problem I’m having is where they stapled the boat together there is a large crack. Apparently when it rains water seeps through that crack and gets into the bottom of the boat. What I did was took the black off and caulked and then put the black bumper back on. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Would it kill them to put a bead of caulk around the boat when they put the 2/2 together

Thanks!!! I ordered everything I needed from Amazon including a cheap hole saw kit for $20.00. Can't wait to see how it turns out! I'll prolly add a little Loctite to the threads for vibration protection because I'm running a 2.5 HP Suzuki 4 stroke on the back.

I have an older 2.5 Mercury that works great. Looking at adding a Casting deck over the winter, I strapped a pallet on the top and took it out I was shocked at how easy it was to stand and fish off of it especially with and outboard on the back. Not sure how well it would work without one on there though.

One other question...how do I know how much bigger to cut the hole in relation to the size of the drain? On the thru hull fitting I bought, the package says its 1-1/8 inch, but its tapered. At the bottom it is that size, but at top its 1-3/8. Should I use a 1-1/2 inch hole? I'm not sure how much clearance I am supposed to leave. Thanks again.
@greatamericansurvival
@greatamericansurvival 4 года назад
Mine wasn’t tapered. I’d start off with the smallest hole and if it needs to be bigger on top adjust it, you don’t want a lot of play the tighter the better.

Thanks for the video - this is a AWESOME IDEA!!!! However I have hit a snag.... I ordered the thru hull connector - model number 3873-3 (Attwood® 3/4" Thru-Hull Connector) from the link you provided. Also ordered the drain plug from the link provided. Academy sent me a 1 inch twist drain plug (rather than the snap) and it doesn't fit the connector/scupper plug, it isn't even close - measuring the "id" of the connector hull it looks like it is only 5/8" - could you confirm the size of the drain plug you are using? In the link to the drain plug you posted it states it is a 1 inch plug, so I don't know if there is a difference in the twist gimick they sent me vs the snap? If you could let me know I would sincerely appreciate it.

It would be prudent to use a marine sealant or even silicone caulk rather than plumber's putty which is not designed for those kinds of stresses e.g. hull flexing.
