Great idea I’m a big guy myself considering buying one to take my father fishing with me who weighs 175lb have you had any issues bringing someone with you ? Do you think the boat could handle mine and his weight
Thank you for the positive comment! it’s slightly heavier than normal but at least i have confidence that it’s not going to fall apart on me. i’ll be making an updated video soon. Thank you
I like it, great modification. I’m going to change the seats in my boat this week but different boat different setup. I was also going to suggest a wood burning tool for the big scratch on your last modification but looks like it took care of itself. In the future, if you scratch or gouge the plastic, you can go over it really lightly with a wood burning tool and it will melt it and smooth it out for you. Definitely practice on a small piece, like the cut out from the hole or something like that first though.
Great idea! I’m a little late to the party on this video, just bought my boat and watching every vid I can for ideas. Was thinking that if the boat loses rigidity in the heat, a 1/2” carpeted plywood floor would help stabilize your new seat and redistribute the weight across the entire floor. Thanks!
Nice seat! Thanks for the video! Those seat mounts are what has kept me from getting one... I'm a big guy too.. 6' 2" and close to 3 bills, who knows maybe over now. Anyway, I've thought about getting a little pelican, but I know I'd need to either re-enforce the seat mounts or do something different like you did. Looking forward to seeing how your solution performed on the water.
Thanks for the sub man! It all worked out well in the end. I have the next video of me testing out the seat and everything on the boat lol thanks for the positive comments
Thanks for the idea, me and my dad are having the same problem. Right now we took the seats off, put them on a board on top of a milk crate. Since we are already so heavy I'm not sure if we can afford to have the extra weight on but this definitely looks a lot cleaner so I just bought a couple of those mounts that you had.
Milk crates a good idea too I’m thinking of buying one both me and my dad are about 460lb weight combined do you have any issues using your boat other than the seats
Great video. I have the same boat in the sun dolphin version. The brackets I have I’ve never had an issue with. I’m pushing 300 pounds. I’m guessing the brackets are comprised somehow
That's really nice. I have a pelican that I recently brought from something and it did not come with seats or the frame. It is very hard to find frames for this pelican. Would you happen to have the measurements for the modified wooden seat frame? I would live to try this for my Pelican Bass Raider.
I was just watching another video from a guy in Oklahoma who put down 1/2 plywood and covered it in carpet. I was thinking of doing the same thing then putting risers and seats on that. The stock seats are junk.
Ben, I saw that same vid and am working on that idea. 1/2 " plywood seems to flimsy to me, though. I'm considering now a version that is a modification of the two (TAckleberry's and the Oklahoma guy). I like the idea of a raised plywood floor that would give me greater flexibility to stand up front as well as a pedestal chair that could be raised or lowered for sitting or standing and leaning.
Nice video, question: does water ever get into the pontoons? It looks like the top of the boat screws into the hull. If water does get in, is there anyway to get it out? Thanks.
Hey man! Do you have the lengths of those boards posted somewhere? I like it and i want to make sure it's as short as possible but long enough to not cause me to go noodling.😂
Good idea I have the same issue and my is weight is 240lbs I may do the same thing to my Bass raider 10e or I may put some wood on the frame to stop it from sagging even more?
Love the idea I am just wondering if it leans easily backward or sideward? That would be uncomfortable but if it is stable then this is an excellent idea I will use on mine. Maybe a longer base might help? Please let me know how it worked out for you.
It worked perfectly. That was a worry of mine when I first took it out but I had no issues leaning any direction with fear of tipping. But a longer base wouldn’t hurt at all just for peace of mind haha
Thanks, pal. I am definitely going to make something like that. If a big guy like you can sit comfortably and safely then a smaller guy like me 5'6 and 180 should be fine. Tight lines and I hope to see a vid or two of you fishing with the boat.
I purchased the seat, swivel and the post at Academy Sports and outdoors. I believe the I made the base 24”x21”. Just enough to have some room on both sides so it could slide :)
TackleBerry 101 my seat rail looks exactly like yours lol I was actually thinking of having my buddy a metal worker build me a custom rail but I think your idea is less expensive.
Having custom rails would be awesome lol that’s what I wanted at first but yeah your right it’s way cheaper out of wood but it is slightly more heavier.
