Pen Mail! Lamy Al-star Petrol and Lilac fountain pens and comparison 

I just received a Petrol AL-Star a couple of days ago - lucked out that it came with a good nib, no tinkering required, haha. I had the Petrol Safari, but I didn't like it with the blacked-out trim for some reason. I ended up selling mine to a friend who posted a lament to his lost Petrol Safari on Facebook - and have had no regrets about that. I've never been a huge fan of the AL-Star. The ABS plastic of the Safari has sentimental appeal, I guess, but I *love* this petrol version. (I also love my Copper Orange one from a few years ago.) The silver trim just looks better with that color, IMO, and I like the satin finish more than the matte finish of the petrol Safari. I only wish I could still get the matching ink!

I love all three of the pinky purple shades. I ordered the lilac from Cult Pens the end of January and the purple black in my previous Cult Pens order, January 10. (I expect they'll arrive around Valentines Day.) I've been on a search for an affordable Vibrant pink since I discovered it a couple months ago, but I also ordered the petrol. As you mentioned, it's much more affordable than the current Safari petrol price!

Thanks for the close look at these. I agree that the Petrol will be very popular -- the first batch is already sold out at some US retailers. I had sworn off the Lamy Safari / ALStar, because mine don't write all that well and I hate the ugly clip (although it does function well). But dark teal is my signature color so I may buy one anyway. 🙄 As for limited editions, I am so tired of being manipulated in that manner by manufacturers, but at least these ALStars should be available throughout the year. I'm done with pens or inks that sell out in an hour or two.

Now you have my total concentration! Controversy about special editions? Curious to hear your thoughts. Even if I end up disagreeing with you (hasn't happened yet 😉) we can just agree to disagree. Not a reason for bad blood. Hope your weekend is great, Rob!

Hmmm. Both of these might change my mind about the Lamy.

thank you, they look wonderful. i have a question, does the allstar tire one out when writing? the plastic lamys wiggle so much when i write, they cause fatigue. my heavier plastic pens don't seem to do that, but the trade off is smaller sections that cause cramps.

I'm very tempted to get these. Can you make a RU-vid short on these so that I can get them into my subconscious when I'm falling asleep?

I have a question that has been in the back of my head.Does your handwriting change with the pen that you are using? Does the size of the pen or the nib change your handwriting style?

Surely one Lamy AlStar is very much like another.
