Today I'll be turning up one of the blanks we made on the livestream with Divine Pigments. It turned out pretty awesome, the colors are so vibrant!

Thanks for the tips. The pigments are the way to go. I have used pigments on a duck call blank that I will turn next week.

mvecellio1 thanks! I swear by the buffing wheels, most consistent results for bringing up the gloss on resin blanks I’ve found 😀

Hi Zac. Actually, I just was thinking of using a vertical tool to assemble the pen parts instead of using those conventional presses. Would you please tell me what press you use? Thanks.

Hey Zac - Awesome job! I’ll have to take a look at the longer video and the selection of pigments. Question - what do you have in your headstock to allow it to turn the pen without a mandrel? Tail stock is easy...but I didn’t recognize the headstock piece. I’ve tried lots of different combinations but occasionally end up with some chatter and have to flip the piece. Never thought of using the no mandrel approach.

Rick Lay thanks Rick! I use ‘between center’ bushings and you mount them with a dead center on the headstock side, regular live center on the tail. You can get the bushings for just about any kit and the dead center at Turners Warehouse

Nice work Zac! I've been turning pens for close to 15 years but have never tried resin casting. I just might begin after watching several of your videos on the subject. One question about your website. On it you have a link to subscribe to a monthly newsletter. I can't get it to work - it gives me a can't find webpage errors every time I try. Otherwise, you have lot of info to keep me busy for a while. Thanks

NVDon I’m sorry about the website, I’m in the process of revamping the website, should be fixed soon. I think you’ll love casting, adds a whole other dimension to pen making, the possibilities are truly endless 😀
