Very cool to see. I'm always watching this for places to dream of going to fish. Didn't expect to pull up an episode and see the streams I grew up on. Cast my first flies about a 1/2 day float up creek from here.

Beautiful country. I like the way they tackle different situations that fly anglers run up against. I think the brookie part is cool too.

Ironically I stumbled across this video....we have a camp up the road from where you stayed. I've been hunting and fishing that area for 25+ years.......quick background on that area, years ago there was so much strip mining up stream.... that river water was orange with sulfur from the water run off from the mines...no life in it, not even vegatation.....I believe it ran orange for 50 or 60 years.......that river just recently (last 15 years or so) cleaned up (due to the limestone filtration sytems they put below the mines) and started to hold fish.....a 2 to 3 lb bass is a rarity, I get one maybe once every 2 years, you'll catch the 8oz'ers all day long....my opinion is that the pH levels are still not quite at the right levels yet for the fish to get to that 4+lb range........hopefully in another 10 years it'll be there.....

Leech imitations and white buggers make for a great popper dropper combinations!

I've heard that. There is no lack of them.

Poppers and big dries always seem to work great in the summer and low flow for the smallmouth on that water.

Excellent video. River smallies are absolutely my favorite fish to target with a fly rod. Nothing pulls like a river smallie. Great work again New Fly Fisher. You make the best videos in fly fishing. God Bless and tight Lines Anthony Hipps

One day, all I caught was baby bass, about 5 inches in length- at least 15 of them. But I still had fun, and they sure were aggressive 😂

Great show. I grew up in central Pennsylvania. I live in northern Wyoming now. I learned to flyfish as a kid and now love finding remote headwaters to fish wild cutthroats.

I love fishing PA and enjoyed the video. I only wish you had used a fish-friendly net to handle the brookies.

Delaware & Susquehanna rivers are great,(or at least they use to be last time I was there.) for Smallies also. Great show. I googled PA Outdoor Region a few times with nothing coming up. The TV show home area?

What fly line do you recommend me buying for my large mouth bass streamer rod?
@newflyfisher
@newflyfisher 5 месяцев назад
Good question. To cast streamers and perhaps big topwater flies, you want something with a short "head" that will turnover larger flies. Our favourite is the Scientific Anglers MPX series of line. Not sure what weight rod you have but match the MPX to your rod and it should work well

Another case of trout fisherman underestimating the difficulty of river smallmouth/largemouth on the fly
@robertheal261
@robertheal261 2 месяца назад
I don't believe that I underestimated anything. In fact, I've often said that I would rather fish for trout during big weather swings than smallmouth, any day of the week. At least trout will continue to feed, albeit at a less frequent rate, where smallie's will simply shut down. I've done my share and understand how difficult they can be.

This is all good stuff. Only thing is brook trout aren't native to Pennsylvania. Brook trout are actually a char and they're native to the NC mountains. Been introduced all over the country for a good while but yeah....

Brook trout are 100% native to PA. The native range goes from northern Canada all the way down thru the northeast and down to Georgia
