Penny Dreadful | Episode 101 "Birth of Proteus" | Autopsy of a Scene 

This scene makes me cry every time I watch it. It is beautiful.

This is one of my most memorable scenes from the show. It is so beautiful. And now to find out it was shot in only one take... amazing.

Alex Price is a scene stealer. He stole every scene he was in on "Penny Dreadful" LOL. Bravo Alex. Thank you for making me love Proteus :-)

Caliban's first views of humanity were not the first Victor wanted him to see, but when it happened, Victor hated the monster he created. With Proteus, all he wanted of humanity was born. Look at the way both where born.

One of the most beautiful scenes in Penny Dreadful by far. Harry Treadaway was perfect to portray Victor. This scene just depicts that very reason. Such a gorgeous set of emotions here between creator and son. I cried the very first time seeing this.

I love how the series introduced the birth of Frankenstein's creature. I think Mary Shelley would be proud of this portrayal. By far the most moving moment in the first episode! It was heart-wrenching Proteus was killed off so savagely. Caliban I have a degree of sympathy more even though the terrible deeds he committed did kill most of it.

Still can't forgive them for killing Proteus off.

The music and the acting makes me cry! So poignantly beautiful. The innocence of proteus was so beautiful and how he appreciated life while he had it.

I love Proteus. He was just like a little toddler learning everything. Then his big ugly brother goes and breaks him in half. Not cool. I love all of the background music too this one Reborn makes me cry all the time.

Caliban does have a measure of my sympathy because he never got the love and guidance Victor gave to Proteus. It doesn't excuse his actions, but I understand them. It's up to Victor to reconnect with his first creation and do right by him. He did the wrong thing entirely by hastening Brona's death to fashion a mate for his lonely creature. I see it as a salve to his conscience for the way he mistreated him from the get go. Caliban remains Victor's responsibility.

Birth and death of Proteus were both equally brilliant! Though the manner of his death was quite unexpected

Damn! I was expecting more with this video, it's so short and discusses very little. Aside from that, I consider this scene one of the best of the entire series; let's not forget how so many of horror's greatest sequences are shot in one take. The first time that I saw this I was mesmerized by the slow construction of tension, very simple and natural, but very effective and especially classy, at the same time. A show with such a pastiche element on it, inspired by the second generation of the hammer films as John Logan said, could easily end up being vulgar and silly, but at least with the first two episodes, Bayona (with Xavi Giménez) gave to the other directors a very strong foundation of elegance to follow, and that's remarkable. Every element of this scene gives me pure joy: the tension, the cinematography, the superb and moving acting, the smart treatment of nudity, the art direction... man! And of course the writing. Shelley's book really ensured prosperity by not telling exactly how the creature was born. PENNY DREADFUL I LOVE YOU.

Great fiction, but the best moment is this one, at the end of the very first episode. Full of beauty, it almost makes me cry every time I watch it

The best Tv Series I have ever seen a masterpiece

Alex Price is a brilliant actor! Gave such a realistic performance of a revived man. Proteus was so pure and kind. Then again maybe it would have been problematic when proteus started to remember his past life and how he would have had to cope with that or get angry at victor maybe.

But really they killed him off wayyy too quickly like that was part of the idea to surprise and upset the audience lol. He couldn't get one more episode at least such a shame. Great show though.

When i saw the scene For the first time ( i don't knew that the doctor was Victor frankeinstein ) i though that they were a couple and proteus was is dead boyfried .it's happened just to me?
