This was possibly the best show on tv currently and you ended it terribly. So many unanswered questions, missed connections, wasted character potential. Hell we didn't even get a showdown between Dracula and Ethan!!!!! And Vanessa had such little screen time WTF. Such an amazing show yet you literally SHIT out the ending and cancelled it. I am absolutely stupefied!

Wow...cant rembember the last time i cried for a character death...

I understand that Vanessa and Ethan's story would have inevitably ended that way... but this season did not do that relationship any justice at all. Or the other characters for that matter. Why bring in Dr. Jekyll at all? Such a waste of time. We never got to see his dual personality fully realized. Why push the idea of Lucifer and Dracula being separate entities at all? Pick one! (and if it HAD to be this way, we should have met Dracula in season 1 and Lucifer at the end. It would explain Dr.Sweets slinking into the background after Vanessa's death. It could have been that Lucifer possessed Dr.Sweets to get at Vanessa. Not like Dracula/Sweets biting her had much effect. Queen of Evil? Didn't even dive into it! I'm sorry but this was not well planned. Just because you want to showcase Rory Kinnear's brilliant handling of dual roles doesn't mean you should write whatever to enable that- I'm referring to that epic episode & stellar performances in A Blade of Grass.) It was such a mishmash of nothing. This made faithful viewers of the show question it's very existence! I understand the concept of Penny Dreadfuls being short scary stories. But even then, it just felt like a lot of screen time was wasted on pointless things. Okay, the show needed to have the Victorian gore & lust which are symbolic of penny dreadfuls. OK. A 5 season run would have neatly tied up everyone's stories. It was doable. Not asking for much. I accept the inevitability of "so we walk alone" for most characters- but how we arrived at that point deserved more than what was doled out. However all the actors did phenomenal jobs (in spite of the writing). They each got to have at least ONE phenomenal scene to showcase their abilities, which was a joy to witness. And if anything, the last few minutes were aesthetically pleasing.I will remember certain scenes with great fondness and a bittersweet pang.

***Spoilers***So the Apache turned Ethan into a Werewolf as only a Werewolf could defeat Vanessa and stop the end of days, yet in the end Ethan just had a chat with her and shot her like she requested. Just one of many obvious storylines compromised to end the show early.

Sorry, not buying it. Logan said himself several times the series had at least five years in it. Hartnett said he'd been pitched six at least. So all this BULLSHIT about it being the right time to end it FOOLS NO ONE. You got cancelled halfway through filming the season and panicked. ADMIT IT ALREADY. Stop with the ass-covering and just be honest.

ETHAN AND VANESSA'S LOVE STORY IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND TRAGIC😭💔

Seems like they were prepared to go into a Mummy storyline in the future and for whatever reason, money no doubt, they pulled the rug out from everyone. The performances were perfection. The ending was like a bad break-up; odd behavior and so many unanswered questions. Shame on you Showtime.

When I watched the finale, I was shocked that they would kill Vanessa. I mean she is the reason that we are all watching. But I thought ok, we might move to Egypt where Mr. Lyle is and maybe, just maybe introduce the concept of resurrection. She is Amnuet, I mean come on. I felt like this moment was the reichenbach fall of the series, where Sherlock dies to stop morarity. I am sure you understand the similarity of the situation. You know to defeat all evil, one must sacrifice. I am myself didn't believe that this was the end, I thought that "The End" would reveal a question mark as if to say are you sure? But that didn't happen and I am sitting like WHAT?

I feel so sad, like I've lost a very dear friend. This show had such a powerful impact on my life. :(

The amount of fans this show has, only shows how damned this world really is. Everything that has great writing, amazing characters and plot development gets either rushed or cancelled. The few pour souls that have a brain watch these wonderful shows, but has always we are not enough, and get strangelled by the mainstream, repetitous scripts that everyone else knows. This show made me learn to acept my demons, my flaws, that we are all unique and lonely monsters, that there's always time for redemption, that the friends we make in this trip we call life are the family we choose and deserve to have. Thank you John Logan for teaching us this and many other things. Once again we are victims of being a minority, we are nightcrawlers to say the least, lets all pray for Vanessa and may she always live in our dark, twisted imaginations.

I'm ok with Vanessa having to die, though I'd much rather have her live, because she finds peace.... though... actually, no, fuck it I'm annoyed! The character story lines were rushed this season, why partially use Dr. Jekyll, & episode 8 was only 45 min! I think I need a hug, haha

Would probably be great if it was at least double the number of episodes for this season. This felt rushed and that makes me sadder than the ending itself....

Showtime is the real culprit here its easy to see they were given a gagorder so fans will not be upset at showtime. But i am very upset and i have seen many the same way i am boycotting this network now after this treatment. I think they were told that it was the last season on ep 5 and then they had to rush it. I will always follow these actors now and especially Eva Green. Love this girl she is a tremendous actress. I hope she finally gets an award for playing Vanessa Ives at Emmy or Golden Globe for Pennys much to short final season.

All I can say is I'm really gonna miss Eva Green as Vanessa Ives! Cause let's face it no one can play her like Eva Green!! NO ONE!!!! And that's a fact damn it!😭😩😞

I think it's my turn to go lay in a coffin next to Vanessa. Never have I watched such an astounding tv series before and as shocking as it may occur to every Penny Dreadful fans, this series and everyone who has made it happen will be missed. Love you guys...

Obviously they ran out of cash to make a series 4 and had to rush an end. I can't believe I've invested so much time in this show for this?!?!?!?!? It seemed totally pointless to me after taking such care to introduce these characters and weave such beautiful stories - then all of a sudden - WHAM! Let's just kill the lead character and resolve nothing. The poor guy who wrote the show must be gutted that the channel obviously said "no more you're too expensive" at the point where they did and ruined his creation. Devastatingly unfulfilling. I won't remember this show with any fondness.

Broke my heart the final episode. I wanted the show to go on too, but the end had to come for Vanessa, how much more could that poor woman go through. The best show on TV. Eva green and Josh Hartnett deserve every award going. I'm so sorry to see the end of such a perfect Drama. I will never forget Penny Dreadful. The best production and cast ever seen on tv. Thank you for it all

I couldn't have wished for a better ending

This show HAD so much potential and much more to tell (why adding all the new characters and sending Lyle away John?). I'm going to miss it so so much...

Sloppy Season 3. I hope there was a reason behind the travesty of Season 3. There was so much more story to tell. Rip Vanessa and Ethan, and thank you to Josh and Eva for giving so much to your roles.

In my opinion, this has been the downfall of a great show! To be honest, all that bullshit with Lily got me so freaking tired, but I endured it in the hopes that when she was killed off or something, we could at least get back on tracks on better stories. I was eager to continue watching despite the fact that some storylines seemed weird and unfinished like Amunet and all the Egyptian things from season 1. I was here, wondering why the hell the Devil, who had been haunting Vanessa since FOREVER, ended up like a little puppy compared to Dracula. All of the sudden, I got to season 3 with more questions than answers, but since I loved the characters so much, I continued watching, hoping that all the loose ends would be nicely tied up eventually... And now THIS SUDDEN ENDING? I'm not even sorry to say that it's disrespectful to all of those who had been watching and spreading the word about this show since the very beginning. Why introducing Jekyll/Hyde whatsoever if we never got to see ANYTHING relevant about him? Not even seeing Hyde at all other than a mere mention at the end and as a Lord? Why never explaning that beautiful and rare connection between Dorian and Vanessa? Why having such a deliciously dark Dorian right there only to waste him with some lame closure? He was only NOW getting to the full potential of his character! Why ending Vanessa's story this way when she didn't even reach the full potential of (her) true darkness? Accepting who she was lasted like, what...? 10 minutes? Nothing made sense and I'm still here like WTF just happened. I'm angry and disappointed at the same time. I came to love the characters so much and got nothing more than a horrible ending.This feels like so much wasted time. Not because of the cast, of course. They were all beyond flawless, but because of the writing. The writing was messy and it obviously had no direction whatsoever. I mean, how can someone as strong as Vanessa Ives can give up so damn easily?! After all the things she's been through. The characters and this show deserved so much better! It's a shame because I truly loved it.

The show had a lot of potential and so many stories to go with! It was one of the best gothic supernatural series on TV and i have no idea why they ended it in a hurry! I am going to miss it

What a tragedy, that this amazing show's quality was thrown to the wind for a nonsensical 2 hour extravaganza last night that flew in the face of everything that had happened the past 3 years. The fact that Eva Green was only in 5 minutes of it said a lot too. Seems like she probably knew this ending wasn't faithful to Vanessa Ives and asked to have her part in it greatly reduced. You're fooling no one Showtime!!

I cried so much!!! and even if i didn't expect the end of the show I agree that was a natural end with Vanessa coming back to her God, really emotional. The best show I've ever watched!!!

As heartbreaking as it was, this was the only way this could end for Vanessa Ives. That character has been tortured for so long, she deserves rest.

And here I am, still grieving over one of the most meaningful series to me. Not only an epic story, but an excellent cast and direction.

The final was like a book we do not want it to end , the more one reads least want it to end. A sense of very large empty. I understand the reasons for the author but made ​​us suffer by not saying that these would be the last episodes . Unbelievable! One of my favorite shows, to me- created in perfection with such a great story to tell- BAM lets just end with Vanessa's death and leave everyone scratching the back of their heads. Fucking showtime, ruining entertainment since childhood.

So well acted, Eva Green was the main reasons I watched the show. She was fantastic and the show wouldn't be the same without her. I know there were loose ends, but I liked the way they left most of the characters. I could have watched 3 more seasons and I'll remember this series fondly

No Dracula vs The Wolf of God...I feel cheated

I think they had at least one more season, if not more, as well. Immortality and the multiple characters who embodied its variations was an intriguing theme that I wish had been given a chance to resolve more thoroughly. If nothing else, the pursuit of Dracula would have made a terrific principal plot line for a season 4. Regardless, given its 3 seasons, Dreadful was easily one of the best written shows on television, not to mention a terrific cast and stunning production values. I will miss it.

I thought Dr. Frankestein will bring her back to life! We want Season 4!!!

I am heartbroken that they ended this show. I had no idea. The shows creater saying it was only supposed to last 3 seasons is a proud way of saying, Showtime cancelled the show. Why did it say season finale instead of series finale?

Gah, I was holding onto every episode and treasuring every moment afraid that this season was going to end before I was ready but.... The whole freaking series ends.... Bah!!!! Love hate relationships seem to be the most memorable relationships.. If that was their goals kudos to them...... Sure I'll remember this show forever, the themes, the actors, the perfect lines, but I'll be tortured by the memory that I wanted more....... Maybe that's the beauty of it. Now we are tortured liked the characters........ Wow, a masochists dream!......... Unfortunately I still love it.... Not sure if I just labeled myself. >.>

One thing that really annoys me besides the obvious rushed ending is we never got the lily, ethan reunion... frankensteins secret was never outed , there was so much more to tell and this although i agree this is how it should end, with venessa dieing it was way too soon and im so sad to see such an amazing show rushed to its end, but im happy to of experienced it.

Where´s Dracula? Lucipher? What hapenned to Lilly? The creature? OMG so many questions.

I have to call BS on them knowing from the start they only wanted to do 3 seasons. Why set up Dr. Jekyll this season and not have him turn in Mr. Hyde? That must have been something they were planning on doing in season 4. Otherwise why have him in the show? The only thing cool about Dr. Jekyll is that he turns into a Hulk-like beast that kicks some serious ass. He could have done battle with evil creatures, maybe even help Ethan defeat Dracula, that would have been fun to watch.

I completely loved this show and was devastated when it ended. I rarely watch TV, but I thought everything about Penny Dreadful was amazing. Whatever the reason it is no more, the hopeless romantic in me will always long for Vanessa and Ethan love story.

The ending felt like it was just thrown in there, because the show was cut. A show like Penny Dreadful should have at least twice as many seasons. so many characters with their own stories I thought it was going to run a good ten seasons. It was like a demonic soap opera with the ultimate characters. Look how long day time soaps run for with characters that aren't a slight bit as interesting as the iconic ones in Penny Dreadful. I thought we were going to see Mr. Hyde kill some people, the Headless Horseman, Phantom of the Opera, the mummy of queen Tera, undead or ghost pirates along with classic sea creatures. The show felt like it ended while it was just getting started. Im going to miss watching this show.

While I can certainly see that this was probably the way Logan had intended the overall story to end the last two episodes did seem very, very rushed in contrast to the rest of the series which had taken it's time with the various threads of the individual stories...I think the plan was to turn Vanessa into a PD version of Dark Phoenix from the X Men comics/movies with her as the antagonist for a 4th season pitted against her former friends which over the course of another 8-10 episodes might of allowed for the wrapping up of plot lines (Jekyll-wasted, Catriona- under developed, the Creature, Dorian, Lily- unresolved) but as with most comments here studio execs interference is the probable cause with Logan being told midway through 'forget another season...get it finished now!'Such a crying shame to end such an elegant, well crafted and classy series in such an offhand way....RIP Penny Dreadful, you'll be missed

I watched the finale again, and it truly is very beautiful. But, having the end of the series announced suddenly at the end like that really took away from my appreciation of the beautiful details of the finale - a total brain wipeout. Now that I have 'recovered' from that, I really could enjoy the beauty of it and appreciate the ending, the Wordsworth poem, the green of the ivy leaves, other details. Abel Korzienowski's score is especially beautiful; there's the addition of a mournful sound in the recurring theme, one of the best scores and sound tracks ever. It was nice to see him and others of the cast and crew say goodbye on Twitter. In the season 3 previews, when I saw the casket, I never dreamed that it would be Vanessa's! I remember that they did mention then there would be a major character death. I will buy the DVD to treasure such a beautiful, albeit short-lived, series - but I'm still a little annoyed about how the end of the series was handled! Showtime now has David Lynch's Twin Peaks - but I just don't know now. I loved, loved, loved this series; Season 1 will always be my favorite because it was my introduction to all the characters, especially loved Resurrection, lost my heart right then. Season 3 is my next favorite, and then Season 2, still loved it and especially certain episodes like the one with Patti Lupone, but those witches were bad! :)

We got an ending at least...though it seemed like we could have had another series with Vanessa being evil, tempting Ethan across the series, really falling from grace and then atoning and dying in the last episode. Though then you have stuff like Mr. Claire joining the main group due to a dark Vanessa, Ethan finding out about Brona/Lily and causing a problem with Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, Lyle bringing back the Mummy to connect to series 1 stuff (why hadn't Dracula brought any of his levelled up Vampires?). Maybe even Lucifer glancing in to push Dracula's control a bit maybe even helping the main group in his sneaky self serving ways from the shadows to get back at Vanessa...

Penny Dreadful was Really a Good show , and all of the sudden we find that showtime cancelled the show , what's wrong with this TV Network an Amazing cast , stunning Performance and for sorry the series is wasted with this stupidly expensive Network that doesn't appreciate what in their hands until it's lost and I really wish that The copyrights of this series was in the hands of another TV network

Really hope there will be a season 4. Great series!
